Chapter 62: SIXTY-TWO
Her Possessive Alpha
The delivery âPaulâs pregnant wifeâ¦Martha.â
The sound of the name alone drained the blood away from Kiaraâs face.
âI told you; thereâs no point in telling her since she wonât agree to come,â Cian scolded his wolf, Fionn, before continuing to speak to Kiara.
âItâs ok. I understand perfectly if you canât come. I will make sure alpha Lucas doesnât know about it and Iâll speak toâ¦â
âNo, itâs fine⦠I can handle being around her, besides⦠it was just a stupid kissâ¦. Iâm sure sheâs probably forgotten about it by now.â Of course, she would, sheâs expecting a baby, Kiara would be the least of Marthaâs problems now.
Cian didnât miss the way her voice stuttered.
âAre you sure? I meanâ¦â
âNo, seriously, its fine. I canât keep running away when Iâve already apologized for what I did, besides everyone makes mistakes.â
She was missing the point; Cian didnât care about Martha or the kiss, he cared about Kiara. He didnât know if sheâd be able to handle seeing Martha birth her mateâs child. He knows something like that is not an easy thing for any wolf to handle.
âAre you sure youâll be able to handle it Kiara?â
Kiara saw the worried look on his face, and assured him again.
âDonât worry about me Cian. I will be able to handle it. Thank you for your concern.â
**********
Early the next day, Cian, Kiara and Nani set off in two trucks stacked with supplies. Cian and Kiara drove in one while Nani and one of Filipâs wolf guards drove in the other. They reached the camp by evening and Martha had already gone into labor, sheâd been there for hours but the strong wolf baby didnât want to come out, causing the mother unbearable pain. Martha screamed at the top of her lungs and her screams already told Nani and Kiara in the direction they should run. Cian and the wolf guard who carried a few supplies for the baby; towels, blankets and herbs, followed behind them.
One of the refugees and Marthaâs friend, Sarah, ran up to Nani as soon as she saw her and Kiara coming closer.
âThank goodness youâre here! Weâve tried to hold on until you came. The little wolf doesnât want to come out.â
âHow is she?â Nani asked.
âSheâs holding on, we hope the goddess grants her a safe delivery!â
âLetâs go!â
Sarah led Nani and Kiara into the tent where Martha lay with her legs spread, sweating all over her body as if someone had poured a bucket of water on her, her eyes red and filled with tears and the sheets between her legs where she lay was completely soaked in blood. Kiara couldnât believe how much pity she felt for her. Paul was beside her, holding her hand and comforting her, singing romantic werewolf songs to Martha, the same ones he used to sing to her when they were still together.
âSnap out of it, Kiara! Why donât you stop thinking about yourself for once, this woman is here, about to have a child and here you are thinking about forgotten memories. Help her in any way you can and move on with your life, itâs over between you and Paul, the sooner you realize it, the better.â
Her wolf was right; the only thing that now existed between her and Paul now were forgotten memories, nothing more.
Nani bent to examine Marthaâs condition; sheâd helped a lot of pregnant she-wolves deliver over the years but Marthaâs condition was none like sheâd ever experienced, sheâd heard of Marthaâs story before now, how pregnant Martha was raped in front of her husband by those wicked rogues, thank the goddess for Lucasâs army who came to rescue their pack before they were killed. Martha and Paul might have made it out alive but the forced sex worsened Marthaâs condition. It would take a lot of effort to ensure that Martha and her baby leave this tent alive, and she would do all that was in her power to make sure that happens.
Kiara placed her hand on Naniâs and gestured her head in Marthaâs direction.
âWhat do I have to do to help her?â
Nani placed her small bag on the floor, removing a few big leaves and hurrying to place them on Marthaâs head. She then turned to Paul. âIâm sorry, but youâll have to excuse us now Sir, we hope that youâll pray to the goddess that your wife has a safe delivery while you wait.â
âUgghhhhhhh!!!!!â Another loud groan came from Martha.
Paul looked down at his wife for one last time, planting a kiss on her sweating head before standing up to leave.
âOk, please take good care of my wife and our child. I will be praying as hard as I can outside.â
âYes, you do that Paul. I will do all I can to help her deliver safely.â
Paul walked slowly out of the tent, glancing towards his wife again and nodding in Kiaraâs direction.
She nodded at him too before he disappeared, and then she heard Nani call her name.
âKiara!!!â
âYes, Nani.â
âI need wet towels, lots of them.â
âOk Nani, Iâll get right on it.â Kiara nodded and proceeded to collect the supplies from Filipâs guard, who was outside with Cian. She entered back into the tent and dropped the supplies with Nani before going back to the truck to collect as many dry towels as her hands could carry and finding a water source to wet them. Thankfully, Filipâs men had dug a well near the camp so she wouldnât have trouble finding the nearest river.
She came back with the towels in a bucket and handed them to Nani, who was giving Martha some medicines to ease the pain. She collected them from Kiara and muttered her thanks, placing one of the towels on her abdomen. Kiara then went to Marthaâs side and held her hand, comforting her and singing those songs the way Paul did before.
And then, Nani gave the order.
âPUSH!â
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! Came Marthaâs scream.
After a few more screams, the cries of a newborn he-wolf were heard.
