Chapter 14

Unnatural forces

There was a furry of activity as everyone was alerted to the arrival of the hunters. I watched in a panicked daze as the primal survival instincts of the creatures in front of me kick in. Fangs came out, claws were drawn, some even had swords. Gabriel was barking orders at everyone.

I quickly realized I had no weapon. If I was attacked I was sorely at the mercy of my attacker. I shrunk back in the shadows. I realized I was just scratching the surface of the supernatural and this was really terrifying.

"Santana! Go to Fresh Hell." Gabriel barked at me. "Now." He added when I didn't move.

I didn't need to be told twice, my feet grew wings as I sped downstairs to Fresh Hell.

Gabriel's POV

For once she listened.

I turned back to the matter at hand. I had been sort of expecting the hunters to show up but not quite so soon. But we were adequately prepared to fight though of course first and foremost, we had to try to reason with the enemy.

"Keep the forces on ready position only to attack at my command." I ordered Boyd. He nodded.

I made eye contact with Farah then we nodded at each other. It was time to head out. I took the lead and Farah, Gisele and Gibs were right behind me. Behind us were two werewolves, Cedric included, another vampire and a banshee. Finn had to stay inside, he was too inexperienced.

I opened the door and carefully headed out. It was sufficiently dark so the hunters could not be seen yet. We walked almost to the middle of the field.

"It's impolite break other people's windows." I said in my normal voice knowing fully well that they could hear me.

At my words, a group of eight hunters emerged from are dark bushes. They were led by a masked man. I felt my mates tense behind me. We all knew who that was.

Lucas 'Brute' Marino.

They stopped about fifteen meters away from us.

"I apologize. I was just saying hello." Lucas smiled a cold smile that didn't reach his eyes.

"To what do we owe this pleasure?" I asked keeping a careful eye out. The hunters didn't exactly stick by the rules of a fair fight.

"We heard you acquired a new weapon." He smirked.

I heart slammed in my chest. My instincts had been right. He had come for his daughter. "We acquired two weapons actually."

"I would like just that one." He smiled again. "And I'm here to take that weapon."

Cedric growled.

"We'd like to see you try." I growled coldly at him.

Almost on cue an arrow flew from one of the hunters behind

Lucas. Gisele skillfully dodged it as she launched herself at her attacker.

Just like that the action began.

Attack! I mindlinked to Boyd.

Cedric, go and make sure Santana is safe.

I launched myself at Brute punching him hard in the stomach. He merely stumbled then came at me punching my stomach too. I groaned at I stumbled but I managed to come back with a kick to his neck which he deflected and only managed to hit his side.

We tried not to kill other creatures but if the situation demanded, then we would have to kill. From the corner of my eye I saw Gisele tear off a man's arm.

By now the main line forces were on the ground fighting for survival. Fire arrows had the sky ablaze, ferocious growls and groans filled the air. The primal instinct was of course survival.

The hunters clearly meant business because they were unrelenting. They came for Santana and the wanted to get her no matter what.

Lucas spit blood from his mouth from the blow I had given him. I stood ready to attack again when an arrow pierced through the flesh on my arm. I growled as I pulled it out of my arm and mind controlled it back to its shooter hitting him in the stomach.

By the time I turned, Lucas had disappeared. There was so much activity around me I could hardly see anything. There was no time to look for him as a hunter launched himself at me. I fell to the ground and as he bent down to finish me off, I stuck my arms out and pushed his off. He literally flew off me called a distance away at one of his teammates.

I kicked, punched, mind controlled and at some point I got hold of a cross bow and shot several hunters. By now the hunters had realised the strength of our forces so I could feel a marked shift in the initial attitude and the attitude now. They were almost wary of us. I scanned the field daring anyone to come closer to me but then I spotted a very familiar red head.

I huffed and ran towards Santana who was trying to shoot a bow she had picked from the ground.

Santana's POV

I struggled to pull the string from the bow. It was quite heavy. Suddenly I was being pulled behind a nearby bush.

"What are you doing here?" Gabriel said angrily forcefully yanking my arm. "I told you to stay hidden."

I pulled my arm free. "I know but I wanted to help!" I told him with creased brows wondering why we were wasting time.

"By getting yourself killed? Is that your idea of helping?" his deep eyes shot daggers at me.

"I don't care! This is my fight too!"I argued shooting back the daggers.

"You don't care..." he mumbled the rest of the statement running his hand through his hair in obvious frustration. "This is a war, not one of your childish games, Santana."

Injured by his words, I shot back. 'Then i would rather die than li...' I stopped when the atmosphere immediately changed...drastically.

His eyes narrowed into mere slits as his face grew dark and he seemed to loom darkly and threateningly over me. I shivered as I stepped back in both awe and fear. He suddenly scooped down and gripped my shoulders pulling me closer to him while lifting me off the ground until i was almost the same height as him.

"I will rip everyone's throat with my bare hands before I let anyone touch you." he hissed his eyes a deep shade of grey that they were almost black.

What the hell?

Our eyes locked for a long moment and I could feel the anger in his gaze. It made me shiver.

I stared at him. "P-put me down please. We are in a battlefield."

He set me down unceremoniously to the ground.

That seemed to bring him back. Though not completely. His eyes were still black. Suddenly an excruciating pain hit my arm and I clambered to the ground. I looked down saw an arrow sticking out of my arm.

I screamed as I clutched my arm. Gabriel grabbed his cross bow from the ground and shot my attacker. Then he snatched the arrow out of my arm.

I cried out in pain even louder and I swear I could feel tissue tearing. It was the greatest pain I had ever felt in my life.

"Be strong, Lioness." He whispered as he pulled me to my feet. Handing me the crossbow, he took the brow and arrow I had. "Shoot whoever comes at you."

I gasped as a fresh wave of pain hit me but I nodded swallowing my pain. We left our hiding place and got in the middle of the battle field. I held the cross bow in ready position as we half walked and jogged through the angry mob of fighters and the bloody mess on the ground.

Fright gripped me at my throat as I watched some werewolves tear body parts off hunter. Oh my gosh. This wasn't pretty.

It was then that I saw him. I mean I could have spotted him anywhere because I knew him so well. He turned towards me almost on cue. The mask on his face only covered his left cheek and chin, the rest had been torn off. From there everything went in slow motion. He saw me, froze, smirked then he came running in long strides towards me, the look in his eyes was frighteningly cold.

"Dad!" I screamed. Almost immediately another arrow sunk into my shoulder. The last thing I saw was Dad reaching over to grip me.

Then everything went black.
