XLII. Evidence
Bound By Unknown(✔)
"Proof, a thing that can be required for many factors. But I do believe and suggest you guys that if the people you trusted doesn't believe in you, don't bother with them. You can find new people that believes you without asking proof for every small thing."
---------------------------------------
Proof! I need proof against the villain in my life. I need to find it fast.
Damini was close with Seema; she was the person who knew about her plans. I need to confront Seema and find anything that might make others believe me.
My mobile, I want my mobile. I searched for my mobile; I didn't have it with me. I might have left it at home. Seema was not there in the hospital that means she must be at home.
Everyone was here at the hospital, so this is my opportunity to confront her and get something on Damini.
"Damini, by this time tomorrow you will be behind the bars. I will not let you cause any damage." I raised my hand to hail a taxi.
A car stopped in front of me, it was not a cab. I moved two steps forward thinking that the car was for others. The car followed me and stood in front of me again. I don't want to jump to conclusions, so I took two steps forward and the car followed the suit. I stopped and the car stopped in front of me. I have enough on my plate and I don't need any new troubles.
I walked towards the car and knocked on the driver's side window. The window slowly rolled down and a face I didn't expect came into my view.
"Need a lift little one," Daksh asked me. A small smile appeared on my face.
"Can you drop me home?" I smiled at him. I didn't even have a wallet with me but I hoped to pay for the cab once I reached home. Aj, being a life savior came on time.
"Hop in," once I was settled in the passenger seat and he drove to my house with soft music playing in the background.
I was thinking of a way to confront Seema. I think I need to confront her by offering money and if she doesn't agree then I will try to threaten her.
"Yes, this will work," I mutter to myself forgetting that there was a person beside me.
"What will work?" I turned around and saw Aj looking at me and glancing back at the road.
"Nothing," I replied immediately. I didn't want to burden him with my worries. If Damini is as dangerous as I consider then his life might be at stake. I don't want others to suffer on my note. Many people are already suffering because of me.
Daksh heaved a long sigh before opening his mouth. "Little one, even though we met only a few days back. I consider you as a close friend of mine. You can share all your worries with me and I will never judge you. I can help you as well. So, please tell me if you need anything!" We stopped near the traffic light. He turned towards me and begged me with his eyes.
I guess there was no loss in spilling all things to him. "My husband, Abhi is in hospital. He was in an accident and doctors are telling us that he might slip into a coma if he doesn't wake up by tomorrow," I took a deep breath trying not to cry. I looked at the side window trying to hide my tears from him.
He squeezed my hand, I looked in his direction and found him giving me a comforting smile. "I know that you love him more than anything, yesterday while we spoke you were staring at him for every second. I know a great romance when I see one. So, I know that you will fight with the gods in heaven and bring your husband back. He will be safe ok," he squeezed my hand one last time before starting the car as the light turned green.
"You know, I really needed to hear that words, and I didn't stare at him yesterday!" I tried to joke and lighten the mood.
"Oh, you did. Don't lie to me," he reprimanded me before going back to driving.
After five minutes of the silent journey, he started speaking again. "So, why are you not near your husband and going home?" I opened my mouth to answer but he didn't allow me to speak. "Don't give me reasons, like you're going there to freshen up. I am not dumb to believe you. So, please tell me the truth," I started at his side frame, as he was looking straight. He was a mind reader, and he knew what I was going to tell.
"I will tell you everything," I told him everything I can from Damini being a suspect to what I heard Seema and Damini speak that night. I told him that I was going home to confront and gather evidence against Damini. "I want Damini behind the bars before my husband wakes up, I know that he will definitely wake up." He listened to me silently without any interruption.
"I can't believe a woman can go to that level. She killed your parents. She murdered her husband. I didn't know that there was this kind of woman in this world. I knew her for a long time and I respected her. She was a woman who was in a respectable position," as he spoke I felt relieved.
A person believed me, without any proof. I was not blaming Anu for asking a proof, but having a person believe me after telling it. It made me feel confident that I can achieve this. I can bring justice to the victims who suffered from her wrath.
"Thank you for believing in me. I didn't expect you to," I expressed my gratitude to him.
"No, there is no need for thanking me. I will believe you," we approached the house and Aj stopped the car in a distance and turned off the car. He turned towards me.
"I think confronting Seema will not provide anything for you. You spoke something about Vinay giving you a pen drive, do you have an idea on what might it contain? Can you tell me what he told you while giving it to you?"
I thought for a moment as I remembered the time he came. "He gave me the pen drive and told me that I will know what to do with it when the time is right," I thought for a moment about what his words might mean.
My eyes widened in disbelief, as I understood the meaning. "He knew that she was going to kill her. He met me and cleared the things and provided me evidence," Vinay uncle met me knowing that he might be dead. He didn't even go to meet his son, he came to me.
"He told me to take care of Aarav, I thought that he was going for a vacation. I didn't realize the pain in his voice. I could have protected him if I have noticed his pain. He would have been alive and Abhi would not feel guilty, if I realized it first," I really regretted that moment. I was on finding the truth and ignored the pain of a person.
"Hey, Avni. Look at me." He urged me to look at him. I compiled to his wish and looked in his direction. He frowned upon seeing the tears in my eyes. "Don't cry little one, it was not your fault."
"How can I not? Everything was in front of me and I was ignorant of it. I can't even face Aarav, I -I."
"Calm down. Breath with me." I followed him, took a deep breath, and released it slowly. He did it repeatedly until I was able to breathe without any problem. I was getting worked up for small reasons. I was not like this and if I want to win the war, I need to get hold of my emotions.
"Now listen to me." I focused on his words. "It was not your fault, believe me, you did nothing wrong. We have to find the pen drive and hand it over to the police. They will take care of everything from there. You need to focus on bringing justice to your family," his words made sense.
"I think I know where to find it. Drive to the house," he obeyed my orders and drove to the house.
The guards opened the gate allowing us to enter. I asked Aj to stop the car. I rolled the window down and a guard approached us and bent down.
"Yes, ma'am," he looked nervous. I wanted to ease his nerves but I didn't have time for it. I asked him the question directly without beating around the bush.
"Is Seema inside?"
"No ma'am. She left after Damini ma'am left for the hospital."
"Call me when she comes back," I thanked him after he agreed to call me.
Aj drove to the driveway. He stopped in front of the door. "Should I wait here or should I come in?" He asked once he stopped the car.
"I want you to come inside. I will search for the pen drive and you go and check Damini's room. We need to take anything that might be important. After you are done, come to the living room and try to divert Seema's attention if she arrives," I got down the car. Aj followed the suit.
We both got inside and I showed him Damini's room before I went inside my room. I went inside the closet and started searching for my handbag.
I found it after some searching it was in the back. I emptied the things on the ground and searched them for the pen drive. I found it at last.
"I hope you have proper evidence in it. I hope that it can save us," I took my laptop and went to the living room. Aj didn't come back so I sat on the couch and opened the laptop.
I connected my pen drive to it once my laptop opened. I opened the folder and there was a video in it.
"Did you find it?" I whipped my head to the side and found Aj coming in my direction. For a moment, I thought that it was someone else.
"Yes, there is a video in it. Did you find anything?" He shook his head in negative.
"No problem, I think this video will be enough," I hoped so. We both sat on the sofa and we both watched the video.
"Damini, are you fine?" Vinay uncle asked Damini in the video. Damini's back was towards the video and from the looks of it, it was recorded from a secret camera, probably a pen camera.
"Damini, tell me." He urged her but he got nothing in reply.
"You are not usual, you started acting weird. I didn't see you like this since then, the day I found how you killed Avni's parents and now you are acting the same way after Avni came into our lives," There was no reply.
He moved forward and touched her, she jerked his hand away, the video was not clear but the sounds of struggling to breathe were heard.
A few seconds later, Damini was visible in the video. She was looking like a crazed animal ready to lose her shit.
"What the hell? Are you trying to kill me?" Shock was evident in his voice. I felt the betrayal he might have been showing her at that time.
"I should have killed you when I had the chance." Her voice was not audible.
"What are you speaking?" He asked probably frustrated. She approached him and looked into his face, her face was clearly visible and her eyes were rimmed in red. She doesn't look like the person I knew.
"I said that I should have killed each and every single person in your family when I had the chance. Now I have many members on my list to cross out," I gasped hearing her words. She planned to kill each person in my family.
"You loved Abhi like your own son, you want to kill him?" He pressed her further.
"Yes, I loved him and I still do," her lips turned up in a smile hearing Abhi's name. As soon as the smile appeared, it disappeared and something sinister replaced her face. "But know he is an obstacle in my path along with Diya and your other family members, I will wipe them out."
"What do you want? Tell me, I will give you anything just leave them alone. Abhi married just a few days back. You took all the happiness from Avni. Let her live her life happily, now, "I held my breath as I anticipated her reply. I know what the answer will be but I wanted to hear a different answer.
"Are you done preaching? That girl never deserved happiness. She ruined my life in many ways and I am going to ruin her happiness. I will kill Abhi and then Diya," she sat in the armchair and crossed her legs. "You did a mistake, many to be precise. You married me even when I didn't love you, you tried to change me and the biggest mistake you did is to bring that Avni back into our lives. If she didn't come back then I would have left them alive. It's your mistake," He approached her and stood in front of her. A small smile was on her face as she gazed back at him.
"I protected you then but I will not commit the same mistake again. I will choose my family over you," he turned and started to move out of the room. He stopped once he heard his wife speak again.
"If this thing gets out your son will be the one to suffer." Her face filled the screen and she no longer looked like a human to me.
"You will kill your own blood and flesh! Do you need the company that much?" His voice held pain; I knew that he didn't expect his wife will answer him that way.
"Yes, I want that company, and nothing in between matters. Not even my son." The video stopped.
We both sat in silence, I got solid proof against her and now she will be behind bars in some hours. I thought that I will be happy but I was not. I started having second thoughts, if this video comes out Aarav will be devastated. He was already in much pain after his father's death, I promised his father that I will look after him so I can't let him suffer.
"Avni, this proof is enough for us. Let's go to the police station now," he urged me to get up but I sat there not moving to stare at the wall.
"How will you feel when your mother threatened you? What is your state when your parents will prefer property and money to you? Will you be alive?" At my questions, he stopped urging me, I felt the couch dip beside me.
"What should we do?" I asked the question to myself multiple times but I didn't get an answer. I found solid evidence but I can't use it.
"I think confronting Seema is our only option," I didn't get any ideas that can save us from this mess.
"Yes, let's hope that it will work and cause less damage to us." We sat there silently waiting for her to arrive.
My phone rang bringing me back to the present, I saw the caller id and frowned on finding an unknown number. It might be the guard.
"Hello," the person on the other side didn't reply, I moved the phone away from my ear and saw that they were online.
"Hello!" I exclaimed louder than before.
"If you want your daughter alive, the evidence shouldn't get out," I stood up in shock hearing the words.
"Damini, if my daughter has a single scratch on her I will kill you," I threatened her and Aj sat stood hearing my words.
She laughed before answering. "I must be the one to threaten you Avni. Do as I say and your daughter will be safe!"
