"A person role in our lives changes with time."
-------------------------------------------------------------------
There is always a burden on a person's shoulder. They don't want to carry it for a long time, they wish to leave the burden or at least get relief and freedom from it. These burdens always come because of responsibilities and the work we need to do. At some point in life we want to get free of those burdens.
I think it's my time to do so. It has been only a few days since I found out the truth about Aarav, but it feels like the truth is weighing me down. It feels like it has been dragging me down. I want to get rid of the feeling now.
"Okay, I will call Aarav. We three will go and have dinner in a private place. You can tell him the truth there." His voice brought me back to the situation.
"Yes, it's ok." I realized that I was still in his arms and moved back. It suddenly felt awkward for me to stand near him with only a robe covering me. "I will go and get ready then." I rushed back inside. I closed the door and heaved a breath, it felt like I ran a marathon.
"But do you have a dress?" I heard him yell from the other side.
"Yes, I do." I yelled back in return. I didn't have any dress suitable enough to go to a high class restaurant. When Abhi informed me that we were going on a date I knew that I needed a dress. So, I did the reasonable thing any person would do. I borrowed a dress from Akky.
The dress was casual yet elegant. It fell on my knees with half sleeves, it is black colored with printed flowers on it. I paired the dress with a nude sandals. I combed my hair and let it free. I didn't apply any makeup and just put lip gloss on my lips.
Once satisfied with my look, I clasped a watch on my wrist and stuffed my mobile in my clutch. I left the room and found Abhi sitting on the bed busy with his mobile. I cleared my throat to get his attention, he spoke without lifting his head.
"Oh, I called Aarav. I informed him that we will be going to have dinner and that it is casual. He agreed and he said that he will come directly to the restaurant in thirty minutes. We need to go, no," he stopped speaking as he lifted his head and saw me.
I waited for him to complete staring at me. When he didn't utter a single word for a single minute, I spoke. "I think we need to leave now." He snapped out of his thoughts and stared at me with confused looks.
"What?" He asked me, looking genuinely confused and cute.
Avni, focus on the task at hand and forget about his looks. I scolded myself internally. "You told me just now that we need to leave. So shall we?" I saw him get flustered and couldn't believe my eyes.
"Y-yes, let's go." He quickly stood up and moved out of the room. I followed behind him trying to hide my smile.
We informed Meera ma about our plans and got into the car. The whole drive we were silent, lost in our own thoughts. I started getting worried about the meeting.
After fifteen minutes of silence I spoke up. "Should we really do this, now? Why can't we do it later?" I questioned him as my palms started sweating with worry about the consequences.
He didn't speak and kept his focus on the road. I looked out of the window trying to think of the positive things. After five minutes I was unable to control any longer and turned towards his direction. "Abhi, please. I can't do it. I really can't." I whispered and started crying. I hated this, I didn't want to cry and look weak to him. But I was unable to contain my emotions and this pregnancy isn't helping me either.
The car came to halt and I felt his gaze on me. He softly removed my hands from my face. I was unable to see his face but I knew there was sympathy for me on his face. I hated to see pity in his eyes for me but I was unable to control my emotions. More tears started to fall from my eyes.
"Shhh, don't cry." He gently wiped my tears away. "I am here with you, we are going to face this together and whatever the outcome will be, we will be still together." He took my hand in his and held it.
I started to get control over myself. "If I don't do it now, I can't do it ever. We will do it." I said with determination. Even though I wanted to skip this, I knew that we needed to do it now. I squeezed his hand for more support. "You will be with me, right?" I looked at him and he simply pulled our joint hands towards him and kissed my hand.
"I will be on your side, forever." I gave a small smile.
He handed me a tissue and I cleaned my face with it. "Start the car, we need to go there before he arrives." I pointed out as he kept staring at me without starting the car.
He started laughing.
"Why are you laughing?" Even though watching him laugh was a delight to my eyes, I was embarrassed. He started laughing at me and I didn't like it a bit.
"We already reached," he pointed towards the front. I removed the seat belt and moved a bit forwards and my eyes widened a bit.
"You? How can you play with me?" I pointed at him, angry that he didn't say this earlier. I climbed out of the and strolled towards the entrance of the restaurant not caring about him.
A hostess approached and greeted me. "Good evening, ma'am. How can I help you?" There was a look in her eyes that I ignored.
"We have a reservation here." I said flatly without a smile on my face.
"Ma'am, are you sure you came to the right restaurant?" she said in a polite voice and added a forced smile at the end.
Who does she think she is? She is telling me that I can't afford to be in this restaurant.
"I have a reservation under Abhi Goenka.'' I said pointedly.
Her eyes widened and it was replaced with disgust the next moment. "Look, I spoke politely till now. But now I am asking you to step out otherwise I will be forced to call the security guards." I glared in her direction. The audacity of her.
I opened my mouth to speak but someone spoke from beside me. "Is there a problem here?" Abhi asked, stepping beside me and she started babbling nonsense.
"No problem sir, we were just asking this lady to leave." She gave him a sweet smile.
Wait, is she flirting with him and that too in front of his wife? And this husband of mine is not saying anything and letting her say bad things about me.
"I was not asking you." He told her and she took a step back. "I was talking to my wife." He placed his hand around my waist.
"Wife?" The girl in front of me whispered.
"Yes, is there a problem with that?" I can hear annoyance in his voice and can imagine the glare he was giving her.
"N-o sir, I-i will show you the table." She stumbled across her words.
"No, we would like another-" I turned towards him and stopped him.
"Please," I said to her and she looked shocked but she quickly overcame it and showed us the way.
"Leave her, Abhi." I informed him when he didn't move.
"Fine," he placed his hand on my back as we followed the hostess. She led us to the back of the restaurant. She opened the door and waited at the side. I waited outside and Abhi went inside without hesitating.
"Next time, don't judge others and try to understand them." I told her in a soft voice.
She bent her head in shame. "I am sorry ma'am. I will never let it happen again." She looked at me with tears in her eyes.
"It's ok." I whispered back. She looked young, probably eighteen and she looked genuine when she apologized.
"There will be a waitress to take your order." She switched to professional mode and left.
I opened the door and went inside with a smile forgetting about the conversation I am going to have. As I entered he was on me, hugging me close to him and I let him.
"Why did you do that?" I didn't reply and pulled him close to me. "Why did you let her humiliate you?" He broke the hug and looked in my eyes.
"I didn't. I just never got the opportunity to speak." I mumbled the words and looked at his shirt. In my worries, I didn't notice his attire.
He was in a white button down shirt and black jeans. He looked good wearing the shirt.
"Then you could have tried to defend yourself." He whispered and started trailing his fingers on my neck.
He started tracing from the bottom of my neck and he went to my chin. I moved my head to the side , giving him more access. "You didn't give me a chance, like a charming prince you came and helped me." I started breathing heavily as he started to go near my lips. "I don't understand w-why she said those things." I spoke in a daze.
He stopped on my lips and pulled back abruptly, making me want to whine. He took a napkin from his pocket and started cleaning my cheeks. "She said those things because you have these tear stains on you."
I glared at him as he cleaned my face. Once he was done, he moved back and stared at my face. "Now it's perfect." He smiled proud of his work.
"Why didn't you think of stopping me in the car then? I could have overcome this humiliation." I asked him, trying to control my anger.
"Ah, please. I was trying to stop you but you didn't listen to me. Now, you are blaming me." He widened his eyes trying to act as a victim.
"Don't try to act like a victim. If you stopped me then, this wouldn't happen. I was-" I was cut off as another male voice spoke.
"Oh, we are having an arguing match. I forgot my popcorn." Abhi and I looked at the door and found Aarav there, smiling at us. My anger immediately vanished seeing him. I went towards him and hugged him.
"You are looking good," I told him as I moved out of his arms. There was a lightness in his eyes as if he was back to his personal self. Back to the old and joyful Aarav.
"I am feeling good too," he smiled in my direction and hugged his
Aarav pulled out of the hug. "It looks like you both need some alone time. I will be going then, I feel like I am third wheeling." Aarav said and went for the door and I panicked.
"No, we want to speak to you actually." I blurted the truth, Aarav stopped in his steps and looked at me.
"Yep, what do you want to talk about?" It was the perfect opportunity to speak but I want sometime after we have some dinner. I looked in Abhi's direction.
Abhi placed his hands on Aarav's shoulders and guided him towards our table. "Nothing, we just wanted to know how you were doing!" He made Aarav sit and I breathed a sigh of relief when the younger one didn't question.
We all sat together and started speaking about lighter topics, like their childhood and the things they did together. When they talked about the things they did as children, I felt like a robber. I am going to steal their feelings from them now. There was a spark in their eyes when they were conversing. I started getting worried that that look may be missing after he learns about his identity and I hope that it doesn't happen.
"I will have a scoop of chocolate ice cream," I ordered the dessert and sat silent. I was mulling over the things I needed to say, and I have been reciting them in my mind. The two members ordered their desserts and we waited for them to arrive.
"So, are you okay?" Abhi asked his brother and I knew that it's time for me to tell him the truth. I have been lagging enough and I need to confess now.
"I am fine, I am getting there actually. I am trying to forget things and move on." I felt guilt creep into my heart listening to him speak. He is finally trying to forget about the past and move on with his life but here I am adding more burden in his life.
I fell silent needing time to get rid of this guilt. The waiter approached us with our desserts and placed them in front of us. It looked mouth watering but I was unable to take a bite.
"Di?" I looked up and met his eyes that reminded me of my father. "What happened? You aren't eating." He motioned towards my plate. I placed the spoon down.
"I need to tell you something." Hearing my words he stiffened knowing that we were speaking about serious things. I looked in Abhi's direction, he took my hand in his hold assuring me.
I swallowed the lump in my throat and started speaking. "Just remember that after knowing this your family will remain the same and they will always love you no matter what you are. Me and your brother always love you as our brother." He cracked a sad smile.
"What worse can it be? I lost my father and my mother killed him. There can't be more serious things than that." I could see the sadness in his eyes and didn't want to tell him the truth.
I squeezed Abhi's hand for support and spoke to him. "You are my step-brother."
"What?" He stood up and clutched his hair. I followed him and stood up still holding Abhi's hand. "You are joking right?" Aarav asked me.
"No, your father is Arjun Rajput." I closed my eyes as I waited for him to shout but I didn't hear anything. I opened my eyes and saw that he was still staring at me.
"No, you are lying. It can't be true." He whispered brokenly.
"I am sorry, I wished that it was false. Your mother told me about this and I didn't believe her. I have test reports proving that to me. I am sorry." Aarav stared at me and fell on his knees.
"Aarav!" Abhi and I shouted at the same time. Abhi swatted down and took his brother in his arms cradling him close to his chest as Aarav shook with a sob.
"Bh-bhai, am I-i nothing to you now? You were the only family left for me. Now, I don't have you either. I-i am alone." He sobbed in his brother's chest as I stood to the side and watched them. It is breaking my arms to see them like this.
Abhi also had tears running down his cheeks listening to Aarav's words. But he held himself and controlled the tears. "No, who told you that? . You were my brother and always will be. Nothing is going to change that. Nobody can break your relationship with our family." He consoled him.
"B-but bhai, my father. The father I thought was mine is not mine. I have a new father now. How can I forget about the person who raised me?"
"No need to forget anything." Listening to my voice he looked at me. His eyes were red and tears were running down his cheeks. I got onto my knees and wiped his tears. "I told you this because you need to know the truth. I don't have control on hiding the truth. You have only one father in your life, no need to push him aside. Okay." He nodded his head, grateful for it.
He stopped crying and calmed down. Abhi helped him and made him sit on the chair.
"Does anyone know?" He asked once he got settled in his place.
"No, only Anu and Raghav know about this. It's up to you, you can tell them anytime or never tell them. It's your wish.
"I need to think about this. I want to be alone now." He stood up and moved towards the door.
"Aarav, take a cab." I told him and he nodded his head in agreement.
"That went well." I slumped back into my chair feeling exhausted. Abhi followed my suit and sat back.
"Do you think he will be fine?" I looked in his direction. He has a sad expression on his face.
"I think so. His only fear is that Vinay uncle is not his father. Aarav loves him and knowing that they aren't related is hurting him the most." Abhi closed his eyes and the sadness disappeared. He masked his feelings.
"It is going to be tough for him but we will be with him." I said with determination and his face lit up.
"Yes, we will be there with him." Abhi gave me a smile. "Shall we leave then?" He stood up and offered me his hand.
"We can, but we have one more place to be." I placed my hand in his and we went outside.
"Where?" He asked curiously.
"You will know." I didn't give him an answer.
As Abhi cleared the bill I made a call and found an address.
"Ok, thank you. I will explain later." I cut the call and Abhi approached me at that moment.
"Who was it?" He questioned as he approached me.
"Just finding an address. Shall we leave then?" He didn't question me and we got into the car.
I gave him the directions and he followed it without asking any questions. "Take a right here and stop near the first building." Abhi followed my instructions and stopped the car as we arrived near the building. It is an apartment of nearly fifteen floors. "Come, let's go." I urged him as he simply stared at the building.
"Avni, what the hell are we doing here?" He asked me and when he turned to look at me his eyes were angry.
Oh! I didn't think of this but I need to complete all the remaining conversations today.
"We are going there and completing the pending conversation today. I want to be free of all doubts, Abhi. I want to be relaxed during this time without any thoughts," he still looked conflicted on my decision. "Please, Abhi. For me." I pleaded with him.
"Fine, but we are going to leave immediately." He pointed out and I nodded my head immediately agreeing to him.
We entered the building and got into the elevator. Abhi pressed the floor, making me surprised. "How do you know about his house?" I was unable to control my curiosity.
He stood in front of me and started moving forward as I took steps back. My back collided with the wall of the elevator. He stood in front of me and placed his hands on the side of my head blocking me. "You are underestimating your husband, angel." He leaned forward and breathed near my ear, making me crazy. I started to breathe heavily because of his close proximity. "I am a businessman and a good businessman must know where his enemy lives." He moved a bit back and stared at me. I want to look at his eyes and never move away, there is a twinkle in his eyes that is making his eyes shine more bright.
The elevator opened with a ding making me come out of my revival. He backed down and gestured for me to go out first. I obliged and went out. The floor has a penthouse suite and it occupied the entire floor. I rang the bell and waited for him to open the door.
After a minute I heard the door open, I opened my mouth to greet him but stopped when I saw the person.
"How can I help you?" The beautiful woman who opened the door asked us. I came out of my thoughts.
"Daksh Agnihotri?" It came out as a question.
"Yes, please come in." She pulled the door open allowing us to enter the house.
I think that she is his relative, I thought internally. The woman closed the door behind us and made us sit. "You guys sit here, I will go and call him." She informed us and left us.
We sat on the sofa and got comfortable in it. "Who is she?" He asked me, I shrugged my shoulders in reply.
"I don't know." I was curious to learn though. Aj never told me about anyone, I am curious to learn about her.
We sat silently assessing our surroundings. The woman who allowed us inside came back with a tray in her hand. She placed the tray on the table and handed us water.
"Thank you," I gulped the water as I was thirsty and wanted to wet my throat.
She offered another glass to Abhi and he took it and held it. He didn't lift the glass. She seemed tense and I tried to divert her attention.
"Is he coming?" At my question she looked in my direction.
"Yes, he will be here in a few minutes." She smiled at me and took the glass back before settling into the chair opposite to us. She adjusted her saree and looked at us once she got comfortable.
"May I know why you are here at this time?" She gave me a pointed look. She seems sweet but there was sharpness in her eyes. I looked down embarrassed because it was past nine and if I knew that he had company I would not visit.
"I am just a friend of his," her eyes became sharp at that. "My husband and I are here to have a conversation with him." I pointes to myself and Abhi, her posture relaxed after knowing about Abhi and mine relationship.
"Oh, sorry about that." She looked down shyly as if she didn't expect herself to ask me those questions.
"It's ok," I smiled at her as she looked cute. "If you don't mind me, can I know your relationship with Abhi?" I asked her wanting to know how this cute girl is related to him.
"That I-i am his," she tucked her hair behind her ear as the person in the talk entered.
"She is my fiancé," he took a seat beside her as I sat perplexed.
How can this happen? If he had a girlfriend then why did he do all the things? I looked beside me and found Abhi with the same expression.
What is happening here?
