Chapter 389: Chapter 389: One of Ours_1

Seeing Xu Fan silent, Luo Guang waved his hand coldly, “Cuff him.”

“Officer, Xu Fan only acted to save someone. At that time, this person had a knife against my neck, and he only used excessive force because he was trying to save me...” Ye Xiaoning was not willing to let it go and explained again.

However, with a glance, Luo Guang interrupted, “As for the truth, I will certainly investigate thoroughly. But what he needs to do now is to come back to the police station with us. He did kill someone, after all. Whether it ends up being a conviction for intentional murder or self-defense will depend on the court’s verdict.”

Xu Fan realized the consequences and knew he didn’t have time to continue like this, so he said, “I need to make a phone call.”

But Luo Guang did not agree to his request, coldly stating, “You’ll get to make one back at the station, cuff him first.”

Ah Hui stood by with handcuffs looking very innocent, having said this several times already. He did want to cuff Xu Fan, but with the situation unclear and constantly changing, he decided to wait and see.

Seeing Ah Hui rooted to the spot, Luo Guang was somewhat helpless. Having just started his new role, he hadn’t yet cultivated loyal subordinates. Unwilling to argue with those who shirked their duties and risk losing his authority, he decided to take matters into his own hands.

Seeing him decisive and ready to reach for the handcuffs, Xu Fan didn’t want to embarrass him publicly, so he quickly stepped in front of Luo Guang and discreetly held his hand.

Luo Guang’s expression turned frosty as he sternly asked, “Are you resisting arrest?” His pistol was already aimed at Xu Fan’s forehead.

Xu Fan’s lips moved slightly as he exhaled the words, which reached Luo Guang’s ears, “Stop messing around, it’s me.”

“Hmm?” Luo Guang was taken aback and quickly judged the truthfulness of Xu Fan’s words before making a decision.

He unlocked the safety and pressed his finger against the trigger, warning, “Don’t play tricks; if you make another false move, I can charge you with assaulting an officer.”

Xu Fan was left with no choice as Luo Guang was not persuaded and stubbornly held his own opinions; it was hard to deal with him. With no other option, Xu Fan had to act swiftly to snatch the gun from Luo Guang’s hand to prevent him from escalating the situation.

“What... what are you doing?”

“Put down the gun!”

“This is assaulting an officer!”

Then, the other police officers nearby aimed their guns at Xu Fan, shouting at him.

Xu Fan ignored them and again whispered to Luo Guang to reveal his identity, “You know about the Flame Dragon Organization, right?”

“Yes, Chief Lu.”

After Luo Guang agreed, he handed the smartphone to Xu Fan, saying, “Chief Lu would like to have a chat with you.”

Xu Fan shrugged, took the phone and chuckled, “Elder Brother Lu, I didn’t expect I’d have to go to such lengths to get in touch with you.”

Lu Chenbing was taken aback, recognizing that Xu Fan was mocking him, probably because Luo Guang had been so adamant that Xu Fan hadn’t even been allowed to make a call.

Lu Chenbing couldn’t say much in response and simply asked, “Elder Brother Xu, could it be you who the suspect was talking about? Have you truly joined the Flame Dragon Organization?”

“Yes, I was invited to join by Qian Zongsheng a few days ago,” Xu Fan explained simply, even naming his recruiter, leaving no room for Lu Chenbing to doubt his words.

“So what happened? Did you really kill somebody?” Lu Chenbing, now with an idea of the situation, inquired about the murder.

“It went like this...” Xu Fan described the incident briefly and concluded with a speculation, “The real target of these guys was Xu Yixue. I suspect someone behind the scenes was directing them, and I need to find this mastermind; otherwise, this won’t end.”

“I understand the situation now. Hand the phone back to Xiao Luo,” Lu Chenbing said after a few seconds of silence.

Xu Fan returned the phone and then saw Luo Guang, intently listening with the phone to his ear in the restroom, occasionally responding with short replies.

The call ended shortly after.

Luo Guang pocketed the phone and approached Xu Fan with a forced smile, reaching out his hand and saying with a laugh, “It’s rather unexpected, like a temple flooded only to realize we are on the same side. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

“Lieutenant Luo, I appreciate your handling of the matter.”

After shaking hands with Luo, Xu Fan said, “Now that you know what happened here, if you need confirmation, you can check the surveillance footage. In short, these villains planned a kidnapping, and in my attempt to rescue the hostages, I acted in self-defense and caused the death of the assailants, with no wrongdoing on my part. Besides, I suspect that someone is behind these evildoers. You can get them to confess, can’t you?”

“I can’t give you a definite answer to that, but I agree with your assessment. Their motives are highly questionable; it was neither revenge nor a crime of passion, but a premeditated scheme to abduct and assault. They must have had enough intelligence to carry out their plan and ensure its progression, which is why I too am convinced there’s a mastermind behind this.”

“May I ask them a few questions?” Xu Fan glanced at the three unconscious burly men.

Luo Guang’s brows furrowed slightly, but he gave a nod, considering Xu Fan’s status, “You can, but not here. You can follow me back to the station for the interrogation.”

“Alright then,” Xu Fan nodded.

He had no particular interest in these three men; since he had spared their lives, he had no intention of taking them any further.

The only value these men might hold for Xu Fan was the possibility that they knew who was pulling the strings.
