Chapter Twenty Seven.
Taking Whats His
Chapter Twenty Seven.
Logan Wilson.
I watched Esme continue to fight with her father who easily had the upper hand. He was advantaged in almost every way, he was bigger, stronger, older and with age came experience which Esme's dad had no trouble in showing off. He taunted his daughter, easily attacking her at any given opportunity which disgusted me.
It was as if I could feel every attack as if I was Esme herself, the pain pulsated through my body and the insults tugged at my heart. I was feeling every bit of Esme's pain as if it were my own.
My family's hold on my arms was relentless, it didn't seem to matter how many times I tugged or twisted my body into awkward positions they easily adapted and called more people over to hold me back. I knew it was just as hard for them as I was for me. Esme was family, she had become so close to everyone that it was just as hard for them to watch.
I hated them for holding me back and not allowing me to run to the aid of my mate. It went against every instinct in my entire being to watch from the sideline's as Esme fought for her life. I should be running to save her, to protect and kill the bastard who easily raised his hand at his daughter. She was stupid to have challenged her dad. I was angry that she had put herself in danger and when this was over I was going to make sure she knew it.
My wolf growled, snarling and thrashing against those that held us back as Roger's elbow came down onto Esme back causing her to crumble to floor in pain. He wanted out, to escape my mind and protect his mate.
A challenge wasn't to be taken lightly and now that the rules had been set it would be wrong to go against them. Roger knew exactly what he was doing when he stated that it was a fight to death. If I were to intervene there would be serious consequences and Roger would win and decide the fate of those who went against the rules, no matter how hard it was to watch Esme suffer the result of my interference would be far worse.
"You need to let me go." I snarled, my voice barely recognisable as my wolf was now more in control.
"Logan," my dad began, his voice was strained and I could see his eyes darkening as he too suppressed his own wolf, "Esme's a strong girl, she knows what she doing."
My dad was right as Esme demonstrated what he meant as she now turned into her wolf, shocking the crowd that had come with her dad. It was clear that they hadn't known Esme was was a wolf. My scent almost overcame Esme's since we'd mated and so it was easy to mistake Esme as still being human.
It was clear to see that Esme's wolf was now in control. She viciously began to attack her dad who had once stood so confidently in his wolf form. I felt pride sweet within me despite my anger of the situation as I watched my mate attack, she was deadly, each move swift and precise leaving no room for error. She was attacking on instinct and using her size to her advantage.
I picked up on commotion coming from across the field and turned to see the rogue that Roger had previously given his suit jacket to removing his clothes, his body was shaking as he prepared to shift. I snarled loudly, tugging against those that held me. The rules had been set and clearly stated that there was to be no interference but rogues couldn't be trusted and lived by no rules.
He swiftly shifted into his blonde wolf, shaking out his fur and wasting no time in dashing towards the battle going on between Roger and Esme, who was crouched down her behind slightly raised in preparation for pouncing and going in for the kill. Roger lay a few feet away weakened by blood lose from his many open wounds.
"Esme!" I shouted her name, desperate to get her attention and warn her of the incoming attack. My voice was joined by many other members of my pack who inched forward prepared to jump in and attack.
I growled loudly, thrashing aggressively on those who held me back managing to free one of me arms. My wolf was ready to shift, fur sprouting from my pours. I was still being held back, watching helplessly as the blonde wolf ran towards Esme, who was turned slightly at the sound of my voice.
"Esme, watch out!" I shouted loudly in a last attempt to warn her about the oncoming attack. My eyes focused on the blonde wolf behind her.
I was to late. My wolf broke free just as then blonde wolf bit into Esme's side, the sickening sound of her ribs cracking sounded through the clearing and bounced off of the trees as if to taunt me. The whine of her wolf turned into a human scream, filled with so much pain that it would forever be engraved in my mind.
The moment the blonde wolf has interfered meant that the rules had been broken and Esme automatically winning the challenge. Chaos exploded within the clearing. My pack leapt forward as a unit of humans shifting into there wolves creating a wall of very angry wolves that began to attack the opposition.
I wasted no time in running across the clearing, my mind and body focused on getting to Esme. She lay naked in her human form, blood and bruises covering her milky skin and left vulnerable to the wolf that stood on top of her. The rogue raised his head slightly, releasing a howl that signalled a kill before opening his jaws wide and aiming for Esme's exposed neck.
My wolf barker viciously, taking over and pushing my limbs to the limit. We were seeing red, our mate had been beaten before us and now her life was threaten once again. I craved blood most specifically the blood of Roger and the rogue whose teeth were getting dangerously close to Esme's neck.
The foul smell of the rogue barely registered in my mind before I collide with the side of his body just as his teeth scraped the skin on the back of Esme's neck. The rogue now lay under neath me, the claws on his back legs scrapping at my under belly but I ignored the small amount of pain. I wanted to make him suffer, I wanted to prolong his death until his was begging to be killed but I couldn't knowing that Esme lay vulnerable behind me.
My wolf clamped our jaws down on his throat, his blood instantly invading my mouth and dripping down my muzzle. I both felt and heard the satisfying crunch of the rogues neck when my teeth came into contact with his vertebra, instantly killing him.
My satisfaction was short lived as the sound of my mates pain filled moans had me releasing his lifeless body and spinning around. The entire clearing resembled a war zone. Wolves were fighting against one another, jaws snapping and tearing at the flesh of there opponent. I was confused to see wolves I didn't recognise as being from my pack and identifying them as being from Rogers turning and fighting with rogues that has accompanied them.
I didn't ponder long, I was already turning to Esme. I recognised the wolf of Jason standing protectively over her, his huge body covering her naked one from view. Oliver circled around them growling and snarling at anyone who dared to attack and sometimes engaging with rogues who got to close. I was proud and grateful of my little brothers guarding my mate with there lives.
A brown wolf reeking of Rogers pack, his fur greying in areas indicating his old age stood a little was away for Oliver. I snarled loudly already preparing to launch myself at the wolf.
"Dont." Jason's voice invaded my mind.
I looked to see that he was looking at me whilst scanning the area as well. Doctor Luke had now appeared with a few members of my pack forming a circle around Esme who was covered in a blanket with doctor Luke frantically began to check her over. My heart ached at the sight of my mate but the thundering sound of her heart beat assured me that she was going to okay.
"What?" I growled, angered by the fact that my brother was preventing me from killing the wolf.
"He's helping," Jason was quick to explain, "look."
I watched the wolf again now noticing that he was attacking anyone who got to close. He was protecting Esme even from members of his own pack and the rogues.
I didn't have time to over think the situation, my wolf was craving Rogers blood. I hated to leave Esme but my brothers would keep herself safe and I knew I could trust them with her life, they would never let anything happen to her.
"Protect Esme, I'm going to kill Roger and watch that wolf, I don't trust him." I ordered.
Jason only nodded his head. His eyes on the wolf and his surroundings. Jason would no doubt kill the wolf if her so much as looked in Esme's direction but for now he was helping Jason and Oliver protect Esme's. He was surround by many members of my pack who to wouldn't hesitate to kill him either.
I growled low from deep within my chest gaining the wolfs attention, it was warning. He whimpered and lowered himself onto his stomach showing his submission and that he meant no harm. My wolf itched and my anger flared as we ignored the wolf and ran past him our focus now on Roger now that Esme was safe.
I glanced one last time in Esme's direction for my own sanity, assuring myself that she was protected. The sight of my unconscious mate flared my anger that had faltered a bit amongst my concern. I was blinded by blood lust as I set out to kill Roger.
*
Rogers scent littered the clearing, it was mixed with the metallic smell of blood indicating that he was still heavily bleeding which pleased both me and my wolf. He was no longer laying where he had been when Esme was about to pounce.
I made my way through the clearing with ease, stopping and helping those who belonged to my pack take down rogues and those from Rogers pack that tried to cause them harm. It was clear to see that Roger's plan had failed, many of his pack had turned there back either running away or taking down rogues themselves.
I followed Rogers scent that was leading to the trees. A small trail of red coated the grass, catching the rays of sun that broke through the clouds above. He was injured and healing slowly.
A rogue jumped out and in my path, it's fur a matted brown colour, salvia dripping from its open mouth and its eyes clouded by blood lust. It attacked first, it's jaws aiming for my throat, the attack was sloppy and predictable. My wolf raised our paw and easily swatted the rogue away to the side where it landed at the base of a tree. It lay unmoving and unconscious no longer a threat.
I walked through the tree line and began to run through the trees, my scenes attuned to Roger, everything and anything that could identify where he was. The sound of a twig snapping up ahead and Rogers scent heavy in the air had me slowing to a a jog and then coming to a halt in front of Roger,
He was now in his human form, tending to his wounds with a large leaf. His body tensed informing me that he was already aware of my presence. I shifted back into my human form as I stepped closer to Roger, my chest vibrating with a suppressed growl. My wolf was already holding back, desperate to tear apart Rogers throat but I wanted him to pay. I wanted Roger to experience every bit of pain that he had inflicted on Esme and beg for his life.
"How is she?" Roger spoke, looking up from his wounds to smile at me, his eyes bright with glee.
"Safe and alive, protected by my pack and yours." I shrugged my tense shoulder enjoying the surprise that washed over his face at the mention of his packs betrayal.
"Oh, you didn't know that your pack has betrayed you," I taunted walking closer to the pathetic excuse of a man who didn't flinch away, "that they are currently taking down the rogues as you sit here, tending to your wounds with no one to help you."
"They are on there way." His voice wavered at the end, his confidence slipping.
The man before me was nothing but a coward, hiding behind his Alpha title and a group of rogues he wrongly trusted as they to were no where to be seen along with his pack. This man abused his wife and daughter, broke them down into two shells but he hadn't expected them to run away nor to stand up to him. The man had nothing and no one.
I titled my head to the side listening intently, "I don't hear anyone."
Roger was on his feet in one sloppy motion, his hand raised ready for a fight. I spread my feet shoulder width apart and shock out my shoulders, my eyes no doubt flashing as my wolf came forth. We would finally be getting revenge for Esme and Kerry, to kill the man that had torment our mate for so long.
"I'd rid my hands of her if I were you shes broken beyond repair. The bitch used to cry whenever I came near her." He laughed loudly.
My anger got the better of me and I launched myself at Roger, my first raised high before it connect with the side of Rogers face. He stepped back a little, wiping his bloody mouth withe the back of his hand.
Roger stepped forward swinging at my face. I brought my hand up my forearm blocking his punch while my other hand clenched into a fist and his his injured shoulder. If Roger was injured he didn't show it as he bounced back sending a kick to my stomach momentarily winding me.
I recovered quickly, flinging out my fist and hitting him in the side of of his face sending him to floor. I watched not really satisfied yet as blood dropped from the corner of his mouth, a bruise already forming.
I attacked again when a smile spread across his face. It was said to never kick a man when he was down but I lost all morals when it came to man in front of me. My fists connected with his body where ever they could, a red haze coating my vision as I attacked the man with no remorse. Roger tried to fight back getting a few hits on my sides but they were weak barely fazing me. All of my rage for this man could finally be released and I wasn't about to hold back.
I stepped back breathing heavily as my chest heaved up and down. Roger was coated in blood and bruises, his body rolled onto his side so that he could cough up blood. Roger was now a canvas that I loved to paint, I thought recalling what he has previously said to taunt Esme.
"You're going to regret that." Roger hissed, his teeth stained red with his own blood.
He shifted although a small whimpered escaped his muzzle no doubt from the pain that I had inflicted. I shifted as well, my wolf more than happy to bet let out and have his turn.
Roger ran at me and I began to run at him as well. Our wolves attacked, growls ripping through our chest and our jaws snapping and biting down on any part of each other that we could reach. He was weak and already injured which only worked in my favour.
Roger backed off before my teeth could sink into his already injured shoulder. The wolf in front of me resembled nothing other than a corrupt man. He was not an alpha and was never fit to be an alpha.
The look in his eyes informed me that he knew he was going to die and I was going to be the one to kill him. We both knew it and even in wolf form I could see the look of fear on his face.
Roger charged at me in one last effort to gain the upper only for his front leg to give way causing him to collapse on the floor. His injures began to catch up with him forcing him to shift into his human form. I towered over him, my wolf glaring down at him with my head lowered above his face.
"Tell my wife and daughter good bye." He smirked despite the obvious pain he was in. I'd had enough of him talking, his taunting and the suffering that he had inflicted on mate. I had planned to make him suffer but that would just make me as bad as him and I wasn't going to lower myself to his level. I was better than him.
I bit down on his jugular, his blood invading my mouth. Roger struggled underneath me, his hand weakly hitting my under belly which was easy to ignore. It was probably wrong but I was beyond caring when it came to this man as I enjoyed his last few struggles before he went completely limp underneath me. I didn't release his jaw for a few moments making sure he was dead and thriving off if every moment.
"Logan, where are you?" My dads voice flittered through my mind.
"Rogers dead." I replied finally releasing his neck and turning my back on him, "send some men to collect his body."
" They're on there way." He informed me.
"How is everything?" I asked concerned for the wellbeing of my pack and most importantly Esme.
"Everyone's fine, those that are injured are being taken to the pack infirmary. Rogers pack are being taken to the holding cells they gave up, the rogues have all been killed and Esme is conscious and healing well, she's anxious to see you."
I didn't need to be told anymore as I took off running in the direction I'd come from, my mind focused of getting Esme.
I was relieved to be able to turn my back on the man that had controlled my thoughts ever since I'd meet Esme. I was satisfied with being the one to have ended his poor excuse of a life. He was finally gone and no longer a threat.
I stopped just before the tree line, shifting and pulling a pair of shorts from a hidden stash at the root of a tree. I was quick to make me way into the clearing already seeing a clean up in progress. The dead bodies of the rogues were being piled up and not one member of Rogers pack was insight. A crowd was gathered around the spot where I had left Esme and I jogged over, my pack parting when they saw me.
Esme lay on the floor, still bloodied and bruised but her injuries had been cleaned and wrapped, she now wore a t-shirt that I knew was mine and wrapped in blankets. Oliver and Jason held her hands. She looked up at me from where she lay, her eyes tired and threatening to close.
I was quick to scoop her up and off of the cold ground, the blankets still tightly wrapped around her, she whimpered as my arm wrapped around her ribs no doubt touched her bit wound that was slowly healing. She was alive but weak, with the quickened healing of a werewolf she would be fine in less than a weak although mentally I wasn't sure.
"I was so worried." She whispered, her voice weak.
"You had no reason to be," I told her softly, my wolf and I content with having her in our arms, safe. "I will always come back to you."
She sighed softly before speaking, "is he?"
"He's gone Esme, you're safe now." I looked down at her watching her face for any reaction.
Esme's once tense body relaxed completely against me her head lolling on to my chest, a sigh of what I could tell was relief escaped her lips and her eyes fluttered closed. It was then that I realised just how tense has been in the past few weeks but now as I held her in my arms, completely relaxed I knew that she was finally able to relax for maybe the first time in what I had was doubt her life.
"You can sleep now Esme," I assured her, looking down at my injured mate feeling nothing but relief that she was going to be okay.
"He's gone forever."
