Chapter 74
Starting with A Divorce novel (Ainsley and Cason)
Chapter 74 Hot Water The day before the quiz, Ainsley had been busy at school.
She set up the auditorium with members of the planning department and organization department. Even Cody stayed there late since he couldnât rest assured.
âHave the test papers been put in place?â Cody asked.
Ainsley nodded. âI put them in the safe in the consultation room. And only I have the keys.â
âThatâs good.â Cody nodded.
After Cody left, Ainsley still couldnât rest assured. She tested all kinds of equipment in the auditorium again.
It was already half past eleven in the evening when everything was ready. Ainsley breathed a sigh of relief tiredly. No matter what, as long as tomorrowâs quiz could go smoothly, it was worth it to be exhausted.
She went back to the consulting room to pack her things. Before she went out, she received a call from Serina.
âAinsley, why havenât you come back yet?â Serina asked in a concerned voice.
âDonât worry, Iâve already packed up. Iâll go home immediately. Itâs already so late. Go to bed quickly. You still have to participate in the quiz tomorrow.â
Ainsleyâs voice was ****.
Serinaâs voice was still sleepy. âThen remember to tell me when you get home.â
Ainsley felt a warmth in her heart and nodded in agreement.
It was already midnight. Not many lights were lit up on the campus. The students who stayed to set up the auditorium mostly lived in the school. For safety, Ainsley let them go back at ten.
She was the only one walking on the campus now. The wind whistled. Ainsley held her arms. The night was moist and cold.
She was not afraid of the cold, but the darkness made her feel at a loss. There was no one around. She turned on the flashlight of her phone. This light gave her a great sense of security.
When she walked to the school gate, she found that the familiar Cayenne was parked there, and Manuel was waiting for her.
âWhy are you here?â She was a little moved.
It was hard to describe this feeling. Instantly, she was no longer afraid.
Manuel opened the door to the passenger seat for her and said in a ***voice, âSerina told me that you havenât returned home yet. She asked me to come over and take a look.â
âThank you.â Ainsley sat in. The car lights were aimed at the gate of University of Washington. It was still dark there.
âIâll send you back.â
The car drove in the direction of the apartment. Ainsleyâs heart was beating hard from the moment she got into the car.
Before she arrived at the apartment, Ainsley felt pain in her lower abdomen. She covered her lower abdomen. Her period came. Today was the first day.
This morning, her lower abdomen hurt a little. She thought that it wouldnât hurt too much this time. Why was she in so much pain now?
Right! That bottle of cold beer!
Before setting up today, she invited everyone to eat barbecue. At that time, she drank a bottle of beer.
Her forehead was covered with sweat, her hands resting on her abdomen.
âWhatâs wrong?â Manuel looked at her pale face worriedly.
âI, Iâm fine...â Her voice trembled, and the pain in her lower abdomen became more and more intense.
whatâs wrong?â Manuel slowed down and frowned.
âTell me, whatâs wrong?
âIt hurts me a little.â She said softly.
Hurt?
âWhere do you feel hurt?â Manuel asked nervously.
âJust send me home.â Ainsley bit her lips, unwilling to say anything else.
At this point, Manuel understood the situation.
âIâll take you to the hospital.â He raised the temperature in the car.
âDonât go to the hospital!â Ainsley said subconsciously.
âListen to me,â Manuel said firmly.
Ainsley wanted to refuse Manuel, but Manuel was already heading toward the hospital.
âI donât want to go to the hospital. I just need some painkillers,â Ainsley murmured.
âDo you always hurt so much?â Manuel couldnât help but grab the steering wheel.
âNo. But I drank a bottle of cold beer today.â
âDonât you forget about it?â Manuelâs voice was a little low.
âI was too happy at that time, so I forgot.â Ainsley froze.
The car stopped at the entrance of the hospital. Late at night, there was no need to register. There were only doctors on duty in the emergency room.
Fortunately, the one on duty today was a doctor from the gynecology department. The doctor prescribed some medicine to treat period pain, along with painkillers.
âTake this. One time a day.â
âGot it.â Ainsley nodded.
She wanted to say that there was really nothing serious with her. Normally, she wouldnât be so painful. It was all because of that bottle of cold beer.
They returned to the car. Manuelâs face was gloomy. He parked the car in front of the apartment and headed toward the elevator with the medicine bag.
Ainsley was stunned and quickly followed.
At the door of the house, Ainsley opened the door. âMr. Gage, itâs too late. You should go back to rest.â
Manuel did not reply to her. He went straight into the door and took the medicine out.
âMr. Gage...â
Ainsley went to clean herself up first. Then she saw Manuel prepare the medicine and boil water for her.
He was very serious, so serious that it seemed that he was dealing with the companyâs affairs.
Soon, the water was ready. Manuel took a glass of water along with the medicine she needed to take.
Then he was about to take them to Ainsley.
Ainsley took two painkillers along with water.
âYou drank cold water.â Manuel walked out and glanced at the water that she Ainsley had drunk with medicine.
âI didnât pay attention. I was only focused on the medicine.â Ainsleyâs hand that was holding the glass trembled and she placed the glass on the table.
âFine.â Manuel handed her the glass of hot water in his hand. âDrink it.â
âItâs too hot!â Ainsley dodged as long as she touched the glass.
âYes, and the water you drank just now was too cold,â Manuel said lightly.
Fine...
âI will drink it when it gets a little colder.â Ainsley was actually a little guilty.
Manuel nodded and sat opposite her. âHowâs the arrangement of the auditorium?â
âItâs all good. We just have to wait until the quiz begins tomorrow. I really hope nothing goes wrong.â Ainsley looked grave.
She was afraid that someone wanted to mess with her, especially since Kaitlin had also signed up for the quiz.
âNothing will happen. I will also be there.â
Ainsley took the glass over and said with a seeming smile. âAre you sure, Mr. Gage? When your family held the banquet, you were there. When Kaitlin celebrated her birthday, you were also there.
âAisy, are you saying that I canât protect you?â Manuel said with a smile.
âOf course not. I donât dare to ask you to protect me, Mr. Gage.â Ainsley drank some water and gasped because the water was still hot.
âOf course. You are so brilliant and powerful.â
Ainsley blushed. She felt that Manuel was treating her in a way of treating a child.
âThe way you coax me makes me feel like you are treating me as a child. Tell me, are you coaxing me in the way of coaxing Serina?â
Manuel shook his head. âSerina doesnât need me to coax her. But you? Aisy, I think you are really a child. Then why did your abdomen hurt so much tonight? You even dared to drink cold beer during this special time!â
âMr. Gage, you have said it several times!â Ainsley was both embarrassed and angry.
âOr you wonât remember that.â Manuel stood up.
âLet me do it!â As Ainsley spoke, she propped herself up. Manuel was feeling at home, but this was her place!
