Our Love Language | Book 01
FAIZAN
One last event and Iâm free to go back to work.
Tonight is the valima. The last event which seemed too far to come but it did. All I have to do is get through this then I donât have to worry about the wedding preparations or the suspicious looks given by my brother.
âWe have to go back to our boring life,â Farhan whines.
Farhan is the most upset about the events ending while Iâm the most relieved.
âCan I not come tomorrow?â he asks.
âYouâre the boss as well. Do whatever you want.â
âYeah, I know. But I donât want you coming into my office the next day and lecturing me about responsibilities,â he says, annoyed.
âI only come to remind you that we have a huge company in our hands.â
âYeah, I know that but you make it really annoying.â
I shrug.
âWhat if we find you someone to marry? Then we both will have a reason to not go back.â
âWhy donât you find someone for yourself and leave me alone?â
âDonât worry, youâll get my wedding invitation. Iâm very close.â I raise an eyebrow but he ignores me and changes the subject, âAnyways, if I donât come tomorrow, promise you wonât lecture me. You owe me for going to Arzo and asking her if sheâs okay-â
âShut up. Youâre loud.â I grit out.
He grins, âmy, my, whatâs going on, mere dost?â
âNothing.â
âSo, you forced me to go ask her if sheâs okay for nothing?â
âNo. I got to know she was fine.â
âSo, I was giddy for nothing? All that for nothing?â
Why is he so dramatic?
I open my mouth to call out his dramaticness but a pitch voice interrupts me.
âFaiiizaaan!â
Farhanâs eyes widen, âIâm out,â he turns to leave but I grab the back of his collar and pull him back.
âYouâre not leaving me alone with her,â I grit out.
âSheâs your problem!â he says, trying to get out of my grip, âI didnât sign up for this!â
I let go off Farhan. He trips a little before standing up straight.
âFaizan!â
I close my eyes for a bit to calm myself before I open them and turn around to face my annoying cousin. Layla.
âYou didnât come to greet me!â she says in a whining voice.
âAre you a guest?â I ask.
She laughs almost making us flinch, âNo, silly! But I was waiting.â
âI am going to throw up,â I hear Farhan mutter.
I clear my throat, âYou should go and make sure your mom doesnât need anything-â
âShe doesnât.â
Youâre kidding me-
âAnyways, I met Zahidâs in laws. I guess theyâre fine. Do you know their younger daughter is a mute?â
âSo?â me and Farhan ask at the same time.
âI feel so bad for her. She must be helpless.â
âJust because she canât speak doesnât mean she canât do anything else.â I say.
âAnd she has a way to communicate and itâs way cooler,â Farhan adds.
âI get that but not everyone is going to learn sign language for her.â she says, chuckling.
âNot everyone has to.â I say, âher parents understand and so does her sister,â
âWhatever. Iâm just saying, for her, itâs kind of hard to find someone to marry.â
âShe didnât tell you to worry,â Farhan says.
âAnd Iâm not. Why would I?â
Farhan and I exchange a glance before Farhan looks at her, clearing his throat, âI think aunty is calling us.â
âYouâre right.â I say.
âOh, Iâll come along-â
âNo!â Farhan and I say at the same time. Layla blinks at us.
âI mean, she probably will assign us some work.â Farhan explains, âyou shouldnât tire yourself.â
âHm, youâre right. Okay, then.â
âGreat. Come on, Faizan. Let us not keep your mama waiting.â
âRight.â
We quickly turn around and run towards the stage as if our life depends on it.
Zahid frowns as we quickly stand behind the sofa.
âWhat is wrong with you two?â he asks.
âAre you okay?â Hafsah asks with concern.
âWe were attacked by someone.â Farhan says, dramatic as always.
âWho?â Hafsah asks.
âLayla.â
Arzo steps onto the stage as well.
âOh, Zahidâs almost-wife.â Hafsah says with a poker face.
Arzo halts in her steps at her sisterâs words, Zahid freezes while Farhan and I take a step back.
âHabibti, we both know I was never interested.â Zahid bhai says.
âStill, she called you her fiance.â
Arzoâs eyes widen but she doesnât say anything.
âTo make you jealous. Which you were but look where we are now.â he says, nervously smiling.
Hafsah continues to stare at him with a poker face. Our eyes go back and forth between the couple till Hafsah smiles and says, âIâm only kidding,â
Farhan and I, along with Zahid release a breath of relief while Hafsah chuckles and even Arzo smiles.
âWhat was she saying to you two?â Hafsah asks after telling Arzo to sit on the sofa chair beside her.
âShe was joining strings with Faizan,â Farhan says, earning a smack on the back of his head from me, âf- ouch!â
âDonât listen to him.â I say.
âDo you like her?â Hafsah asks.
âNo.â
âThe only thing he likes enough to marry is his business.â Zahid says.
âAgreed.â Farhan joins in.
Hafsah laughs softly, âdonât worry, when the time comes youâll find someone to marry.â
âHow do you know?â Farhan asks.
âI donât. All I know is Allah has written someone for you.â
Hafsah smiles knowingly, glancing at Zahid, who smiles after as well. Farhan makes a confused face.
I, however, end up glancing at Arzo at the same time she glances at me. Weâre quick to realize our mistake and look away.
Few more hours.
