Chapter 10 Can We Go Back To The Way We Were?
Daphne was shocked. âWhat?â
âItâs only been four weeks since I found out.â
Daphne remained silent.
Lysander gently placed her hand on her abdomen. âI was planning to tell him about it on his birthday as a birthday gift for him. Now, it seems like it might not be good news for him.â
Feeling somewhat sympathetic, Daphne advised her, Actually, itâs not necessarily bad. Lysanne is pregnant, too. Even if Josiah likes her, he might not want to be a stepfather. After all these years of treating you well, he might have already given up and just wanted to live happily with you. Itâs just that Lysanneâs return triggered memories from their youth, causing some emotional turmoil. Once Lysanne leaves, you two might be able to return to how things were before.â
âCan we really go back to how things were?â
Daphne fell silent.
Over twenty years of unrequited love. Itâs like an iceberg, only showing a tiny bit above the surface, but beneath it lay tumultuous emotions known only to myself.
In the end, Daphne said, âLetâs give him another chance for the sake of the child. If he still chooses Lysanne, then Iâll accompany you to get rid of the baby.â
The next day, Lysander had the early shift.
Josiah wasnât there, so she took a taxi to the hospital herself.
Mornings for doctors were always busy with rounds and giving instructions based on the condition of the pregnant women. After briefing Lynn on the special cases and nursing requirements of several patients, she finally had time to return to her office for a drink of water.
As she pushed the door open, she heard her phone vibrating.
It was Josiah.
She answered, âHello?â
Josiah sounded apologetic. âLysander, are you at the hospital?â
âIâve finished my rounds.â
âSorry, I wanted to rush back this morning to take you to work, but something came up.â
Lysander chuckled and deliberately asked, âWhat held you up?â
Josiah stayed silent.
âIt is about the company?â

âYeah.â Josiah hurriedly added, âYou should finish your early shift at five, right? Iâll come pick you up, and weâll go home together.â
Returning to their old house was just to celebrate Josiahâs birthday with his mother. Tonight, they would до back to their own apartment in the city center.
Lysander said, âI might not finish by five; thereâs a lot to do today.â
âItâs okay. Iâll wait for you, no matter how late.â
âDonât you have a lot of work? Can you leave by five?â
âI pretty much finished everything last night.â
âOh, okay.â Lysander asked, âSo, you wonât be called away in the middle of the night anymore?â
Josiahâs voice grew solemn. âNo, I wonât.â
Obstetrics and gynecology was like that-sometimes there were too many tasks for the staff, other times it was idle all day.
Today wasnât her consultation day, and the pregnant women in the ward were all doing well; there was nothing extra to worry about. As soon as five oâclock came, she could leave work.
Lynn winked suggestively at her. âDr. Thotne, your husband has been waiting for you at the door for a long time.â
Lysander felt warmth in her heart. âHow long has he been here?â
âAbout half an hour,â Lynn said. âTâll let you in on a secret; thereâs a surprise waiting for you.â
Lysander was intrigued. âA surprise?â
âHaha, youâve been married for three years. Your husband still has such a romantic touch; itâs really admirable.â
The nurse beside them also looked envious. âDr. Thorne, you must have saved the galaxy in your past life to deserve such a good husband in this life.â
Lynn nodded, like setting a timer. âExactly. If there were men like him, who would fear marriage? Iâd get married and have children right away; arrange three kids in a row.â
Lysander couldnât help but feel curious and quickened her pace out of the hospital lobby.
Josiah stood in the most conspicuous spot. He wore a blue and white striped shirt today, paired with navy blue trousers. He still had a matching sleeve garter on his bicep.
He liked armbands, but they didnât always look good on everyone. Too thin, and it would slip off easily; too chubby, and the whole arm looked like a sausage. It had to be someone like Josiah, broad- shouldered, well-built, with muscular arms, to make the armband look good. Paired with his gold- rimmed glasses, he exuded elegance and nobility.

The bustling entrance of the hospital attracted many onlookers.
Finally, Lysander understood what Iynn meant by âsurprise.â
She even tried to recall. What day is it today?
My birthday is still half a year away, and our anniversary is three months away. What is it, then?
The day we first met?
That isnât right: we met on the day of our blind date. I was busy with work then, so we chose the Independence Day holiday for the date.
However, Independence Day is still some time away.
Perhaps, as Daphne said, he is just stirred by Lysanneâs sudden return. When reason returns, we can still live happily together.
She smiled slightly and walked quickly towards him.
Josiah noticed her approach, a smile playing on his lips. âYouâve worked hard. This is for the great Dr. Thorne.â
The bouquet was too large, and Lysander struggled to hold it. âThank you.â
Although the bouquet didnât have as many as 999 roses, it still had one or two hundred. Josiah held it effortlessly with one hand while she struggled to carry it, unable to see the road ahead.
Josiah couldnât help but chuckle, taking the bouquet from her. âLet me carry it for you.â
Lysander blushed. âOkay.â
Josiah held the flowers with his left hand and opened the passenger door with his right hand. âGet in.â
With the shadow of the previous incident, Lysander still felt a bit nervous.
After a pause, she dared to look into the car-fortunately, the passenger seat was empty, and no one was there. She glanced at the back seat, also empty. Lysanne wasnât there..
Josiah found it amusing. âWhat are you looking at?â
Lysander shook her head slightly. âJust figuring out where to put the flowers.â
âIf you like, you can hold them. If you find it inconvenient, just put them in the back seat for now.â
Lysander pondered for a moment, then got into the car and reached out to him. âIâll hold them.â
âWait a moment.â
He leaned in, fastening her seatbelt before placing the roses in her arms. âSafety first.â
âOkay, thanks.â

On the way, she took an unprecedented selfie with the roses and posted it on her social media.
Lynn was the first to comment, with several rows of âawwâ and followed by an âenvyâ emoji.
guy. Itâs Daphne also liked the post and sent her a message. âSee, I told you. Josiah is obviously a smart guy so nice to have a warm family with a wife and kids. No need to suck up and play stepdad.
