Chapter 12 She Couldnât Stay In This House Any Longer
âDr. Thorne, do you want me to explain the law to you? If the house was bought during the marriage, even if itâs your investment, itâs still marital property. You only have half ownership.â
âAre you suggesting that Josiah also owns half, and she can mess around in my house?â
Lysanne shrugged, implying something. âIf you bought it when you were single, then it belongs to you alone and has nothing to do with Josiah.â
âMiss Thorne, are you referring to âsingleâ or âdivorced?â
âWhether itâs single or divorced, thereâs no difference in the ownership of the house. Dr. Thorne, donât misinterpret my meaning. Iâm just educating you on marriage and property laws.â
Lysander chuckled and turned to Josiah. âSee that? Miss Thorne can still argue with me logically, proving thereâs nothing wrong.â
Josiah apologized. âLysander-â
âRemember to transfer the $15 to me. Iâm going back to the bedroom. As for the living room-this is your house; you decide whether to restore it or keep it as it is.â
Josiah caught up, grabbing her. âLysander, donât be angry.â
âOh, and one more thing.â Lysander added. âAlthough the house is yours, I bought the curtains, sofa covers, and stuffed toys. I have receipts as evidence, so Miss Thorne must compensate for the damages accordingly. I understand property law.â
âLysander-â
âIâve put the roses in the entryway; those were fully paid for by you. So, itâs your property. Deal with it yourself. Stop hogging space.â
Lysander turned and headed back to the bedroom, closing the door.
Josiah stood outside, knocking on the door for a while, calling her name, but she ignored him. She casually puts on headphones and turns on a TV show, no longer concerned about the commotion. outside.
After watching an episode and feeling a bit thirsty, she decided to go to the living room to pour a glass of water.
As she opened the door, she overheard Lysanneâs conversation. âJosiah, what happened to you? You used to be so confident, but now youâre so submissive after getting married? Pressed down by your. wife, you are not at all like the person you used to be
Josiah sat wearily on the other end of the sofa. His forearm rested on his eyes, and he softly said, âDo you think I should argue with her?â.
âAt least you shouldnât be so submissive. Marriage is a mutual thing. Why should you be the only one to placate her?â

sial chuckled bitterly. âYou understand marriage so well. Has your marriage succeeded?â
Lysanneâs expression changed-suddenly, turning sharply. âWhat do you mean?â
âPregnant, husband cheated, divorced, and left with nothing,â Josiah said. âAre you here specifically to celebrate my birthday? You couldnât stand it overseas, right? Mom doesnât want to expose you, afraid youâll lose your dignity. Do you think we donât know anything?â
Lysanne bit her lip, was silent, and bowed her head.
Josiah sighed. âYour own marriage has failed. Stop giving me advice.â
âIâm doing it for your own good. Iâve learned a lot from my failed marriage. Thatâs why Iâm telling you whatâs right and whatâs wrong, to prevent you from following in my footsteps.â
âIâll manage my own marriage. My mom doesnât interfere, and so should you.â
âIâm your best friend. Who else will look out for you?â Lysanne said angrily. âIâm not saying Dr. Thorne is bad, but look at her these past few days. Sheâs either busy with work or arguing with me-and sheâs not close to my mom. Itâs like thereâs a barrier between them. She doesnât get along with your relatives and friends either. Maybe she should reflect on herself.â
âShe gets along fine with my mom.â
âItâs just superficial. No matter how good she is, can she be as good as me and Mrs.
Guerra?â
Josiah suddenly sat up. âLysanne, what are you trying to do? You wanted to stargaze, so I lied to Lysander that thereâs work at the company, and I went with you to the mountaintop in the middle of the night. You think this place is close to the hospital and want to live in Lysanderâs and my marital home, so weâve both agreed. What more do you want?
Lysanne bit her lip, tears streaming down her face. âOkay, I get your point. Iâll leave.â
With that, she stood up, clattering, to start packing.
Josiah said, âItâs late at night. Where are you going?â
âIâll stay in a hotel, okay? We canât be friends anymore. A dog doesnât recognize a good personâs heart. I wonât care whether you live or die from now on.â
âLysanne.â Josiah snatched the luggage from her hands and put it aside. âStop making a scene, okay? Youâre pregnant. How could I let you stay in a hotel alone?â
âWhy not? Let me tell you. From now on, weâre not friends anymore. You just be a good husband to her
âCough!â Lysander coughed heavily.
Both Josiah and Lysanne looked over. He looked guilty. Lysanneâs eyes were sharp and filled with tears.
She couldnât stay in this house any longer.

surgeries scheduled for tomorrow, and she had to ensure adequate sleep.
She said, âI just got a call. Thereâs an emergency at the hospital. I have to go.â
Josiah immediately grabbed the car keys. âIâll drive you.â
âNo need. Miss Thorne isnât feeling well. You stay and take care of her. Itâs not far. Iâll take a taxi.
Fortunately, she hadnât changed out of her work clothes since coming home. She was wearing what she wore off-duty, which made things easier.
Picking up her bag and changing her shoes, she left in one go.
As she reached the gate of the community, it seemed like Josiah followed her out. He called her name from behind, âLysander-â
Lysander waved to stop a taxi. âSir, take me to the hotel.â
The driver asked, âIsnât there a hotel next to this community?â
âGo to another one,â she said. âThe further, the better.
The car started and merged into the traffic.
The driver reminded her, âMiss, it seems like someone is chasing the car behind. Should I stop?â
âNo need. Just drive faster.â
