The Charming Ex-Wife ( Lysander and Josiah ) Online Novel
Chapter 132 Final Moments Of Elisa
When Elisa said that, her gaze gradually lowered to rest on Lysanderâs belly.
âGrandma Elisa, thereâs no such thing. Josiah and I⦠are doing just fine.â
âDonât lie to me anymore. I know everything,â Elisa said. âYou all think Iâm old and senile, no longer able to recognize anyone, huh?â
âNot at all, Grandma Elisa. Donât overthink things.â
âYou donât have to hide it from me anymore. The child has already told me everything.â
âThe child?â
âThe child you have with Josiah. Sheâs a beautiful girl. She came to see me this morning, dressed in a floral dress, with her hair in pigtails!â
Lysander choked up, momentarily at a loss for words.
Elisa continued, âShe was such a darling, gently leaning against me and calling me Greatâgrandma. Oh, she was so pretty, bubbly, and lively. She even sang to me, clapping her hands while at it. What song was that again? It seemed to be a Stounian song. Iâm old, and my hearing is not what it used to be, so I couldnât quite catch it. All I remember is something along the lines of birch.â
Josiah was somewhat puzzled. âBirch?â
âYes, birch.â
Josiah looked at Lysander. âWhat song is that?â
A stab of pain assailed Lysander, a dull ache spreading all over her.
Itâs not birch, but bird. Itâs the prenatal song I listened to in the first few days I found myself pregnant. Hush, little baby, donât say a word. Mamaâs gonna buy you a mockingbirdâ¦
She hummed softly.
Elisa immediately said, âYes, this was the song. She sang it so beautifully.
At that point in the conversation, Josiah and Susan shared a glance, both having a pretty good idea of what was going on.
Susanâs tears streamed down her face, yet she dared not let a single sob escape. She strove to keep her emotions in check, trembling even as she bit on her knuckles.
Josiah was no better, his eyes redârimmed. He turned his face away.
Elisa continued, âLysander, the child wanted me to tell you sheâs not mad at you. She only misses you greatly and regrets that she canât be your child anymore. The angel told her to hurry back to heaven, for she has to choose a new mother.â
Lysander said nothing.
It felt as if there was a lump in her throat, leaving her unable to utter a word.
Chapter 132 Final Moments Of Elisa
âLysander, itâs almost time for me to go to heaven too. But I canât go back on a promise made to the child. I needed to see you one last time and tell you all this in person before I could leave in peace.â
Instantly, Lysander broke down, tears streaming down her face. âGrandma Elisa, please donât say something so dispiriting. Iâm a doctor. As long as Iâm here, youâll be fine.â
âSilly girl, youâre an obstetrician. You canât cure my illness. Iâve lived for over eighty years, and itâs enough. Susan, Josiah, come over here.â
For some reason, Elisa could seemingly recognize them again.
Susan and Lysander squatted down together, huddling close. Considering his tall stature and long legs, Josiah crouched behind them..
âMom, Iâm here.â
âGrandma.â
âGood. Itâs good that youâre both here. The child also had a message for me to pass on to you,â said Elisa.
Go ahead, Mom. Josiah and I are all cars,â Susan said urgently.
Elisa had just spoken at length earlier and was somewhat drained then. She breathed heavily, a thick layer of mist forming on her oxygen mask,
As Susan stroked her chest, she coaxed, âMom, donât rush. Take your time.â
Elisa closed her eyes, her chest heaving violently.
Anxiety gripped Lysander. âGrandma Elisa, donât speak for now first. Take a moment to rest.â
âNo. I⦠I canât hold on much longer. I need to finish speaking quicklyâ¦
Lysander swiftly stood up, instructing, âMadam Susan, Josiah, stay here and listen to Grandma Elisa. Iâll go and look for the doctor. Grandma Elisaâs blood pressure has already dropped to a critical level, and she requires emergency treatment at once.â
Susan was already at her witâs end. âOkay, okay. Go quickly.â
Lysander forcefully swung the hospital room door open and rushed out, only to collide headâon with
someone.
âOuch!â
Upon hearing that, Josiah looked over, only to lock eyes with the person outside.
Visibly pregnant, Lysanne pointed at Josiah and began shrieking, âHow dare you, Josiah! So, this is why youâve been ignoring my calls all morning! Sure enough, you went to meet this b*tch behind my back!â
