Chapter 223 I Do Not Love Him

Zachary’s car gradually came to a stop beneath Lysander’s apartment.

She pushed the car door open and uttered, “I’ll head upstairs. Be careful on the road.“”

“Hang on, Lysander.”

She turned around, asking, “What’s wrong?”

Zachary smiled as he smoothed out the creases on her clothes. “Were you at the bar today because a colleague invited you?”

“Yeah, a colleague is getting married soon and has invited some friends to the bar. Is there a problem?”

“No, it’s nothing. I just noticed that the way Dr. Sutton look at you seems very

different.”

“He did pursue me for a while,” Lysander candidly stated, thinking she might as well disclose that to him. “But there’s no possibility between us. Dr. Sutton understands this himself. He’s a person who knows his boundaries, so from now on, we’re just colleagues.”

“Well, Dr. Sutton is quite outstanding.”

“Yes, he’s an anesthesiologist. There’s currently a high demand for such talent domestically, and he’s cream of the crop in his field. He’s truly an excellent individual.”

“Why didn’t you choose him then? He’s obviously way better than me. It wouldn’t even be difficult for his family to buy an entire building, let alone buying you a house, right?”

Lysander answered frankly, “That’s because I don’t love him.”

“But you don’t love me, either.”

She fell silent.

Zachary apologized, “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that.”

Lysander didn’t know how to respond to him.

When it came to her feelings for Zachary, she found it hard to describe them as simply “love” or “not love.”

He might not have been the best suitor, but his strength lay in his average nature, and even more so in his ability to allow Lysander to completely sever ties with her past life.

If I had chosen Adrian, I’d still remain in that circle. I’d also inevitably have to meet Josiah and Lysanne regularly. Zachary is different. He’s just an ordinary guy like myself, and we share the same background. Being with him, I can avoid encountering people from my past altogether. Most importantly, being with him makes everyone happy–my parents, my sister, Madam Camila, and Zachary himself.

She stood under the street lamp by the flower bed and waved him goodbye. “See you!”

Zachary’s smile held a touch of bleakness as he closed the car window and drove away.

After Lysander got home and took a shower, she received a message on WhatsApp.

It was the same request as the one she had received during the day: Janelysanne.

She sent it again.

Lysander glanced at the time and realized it was already 12:33 in the morning.

She adjusted her WhatsApp settings to disallow friend requests.

She had decided to comply with the hospital’s regulations by turning on the request setting during work hours, and then turning it off after adding the patient’s contact.

Even though it could be quite troublesome for her to keep changing the settings, she felt it was worth the

effort.

As she casually flipped through the photo album, the first few pictures revealed Harry affectionately doting on the darling of the Stone family.

Suddenly, Lysander felt a twinge of discomfort as she looked at those photos.

Birds of the same feather flock together. Since Zachary seems to have a good relationship with Harry, does he know about what Harry did to Daphne in the past?

Lysander thought to herself. If Zachary knows the truth, why does he still maintain a friendship with Harry? Is it simply because of the camaraderie among alumni of the same school, or is there another hidden reason? Considering the numerous classmates they shared in school, I wonder why Harry, who was two grades below Zachary, seems to be his primary associate. Could it be that Harry’s current business ventures are intertwined with the architectural design company? Perhaps their frequent interactions for work purposes naturally lead to a closer relationship?

Suddenly, Lysander felt a throbbing sensation in her head.
