Chapter 404 Change My Dressing
While they were talking. Daphneâs face suddenly changed. She abruptly stood up and exclaimed, âWhat are you doing here?â
When Lysander looked up, she saw a familiar figure.
However, she was far from her usual commanding and condescending self. She was drenched from head to toe, draped in a white bath towel. Her wet hair clung to her scalp, making her look quite disheveled.
âIâm here to see my mom.â
Daphne didnât even try to hide her displeasure with her. âWhere were you earlier? Your mom was hospitalized, and it was Lysander and Mr. Thorne who took turns to look after her. Have you been hiding at home, enjoying yourself?â
Tears welled up in Lysanneâs eyes. âItâs not that I didnât want to come; itâs just thatâ¦â
âWhat? Your legs are your own. Who could possibly stop you if you decided to come? Were you tied up or locked away?â
âI-â
âLysanne.â
Josiah appeared right then.
He also spotted Daphne and Lysander, and his face contorted. âDaphne, did you come to see Lysander?â
Daphneâs eyes darted back and forth between him and Lysanne a few times before she suddenly burst into laughter. âMr. Guerra, please donât address me so familiarly. I wouldnât want people to accuse me of trying to cozy up to the illustrious Guerra family. You should just call me Ms. Everhart.â
Josiah was holding a bag of medicine in his hand. It seemed that he had just collected it.
Daphne gave a quick glance. âIs it Mrs. Thorneâs medicine? Thanks for making the trip, Mr. Guerra. Hand it over to me, please.â
No sooner had Daphne reached out her hand than it was gently brushed aside.
Lysander drew her hand back. âSomeone will deliver Mollyâs medicine.â
Daphne picked up on the underlying message. She glanced at the soakingâwet Lysanne, raised an eyebrow, and asked âI see. So, you went to fetch medicine for Ms. Lysanne, didnât you, Mr. Guerra?â
Josiah raised his hand slightly, passing the medicine to Lysanne. âTake this and head back to the ward first.â
âJosiah, Iâm worried about Mom. I want to see herâ¦â
âThen you should go check on Mrs. Thorne.â Josiah extended his hand to grasp Lysanderâs. âLysander, something urgent happened last night and I didnât get a chance to explain it to you. Letâs go to your
officeâ¦
âHey, hey, hey, what are you doing? Donât get handsyâ Daphne shielded Lysander behind her. âJust use

Josiah studied Daphne for a moment, then turned his attention back to Lysander. âAll right, then Iâll say it
here.â
âLast night, I got a call from my mom. The Thorne manor had caught fire. Both our houses were built entirely of wood, so you can imagine the disaster once it started burning. Plus, you know my mom has high blood pressure, and I was worried the shock would affect her, so I rushed back immediately. I planned to contact you once everything was sorted out, but the fire was so intense, it wasnât put out until early morning. The police showed up too, asking my mom and Lynne to go to the station to provide information to help determine the cause of the fire, which delayed things even further.â
After a moment of contemplation, Lysander asked, âIs Madam Susan doing well?â
âSheâs fine. Just got a bit startled.â
Lysander nodded slightly, turning to Lysanne. âDid you suffer from a burn?â
Josiah pursed his lips, remaining silent.
Lysanne replied gently. âThere are minor burns on my arm and chest. The doctor has prescribed some medication.â
âThe ones Mr. Guerra collected for you?â
âYes.â Lysanne nodded. âDr. Thorne, donât get the wrong idea. Josiah was actually planning to give me the medicine and then rush back to you immediately. It was my own worry for Mom that made me want to come over. This caused him to take an unnecessary detour and wasted some time.â
Lysander chuckled. âNo worries. Itâs all thanks to this unnecessary detour; otherwise, I wouldnât have had the chance to meet with Mr. Guerra.â
Lysanne said, âDr. Thome, I hope youâre not upset.â
âWhy would I be upset? Mom just went to sleep after finishing her meal. If you want to see her, keep your voice down. Donât wake her up.â
âMomâs asleep? Then never mind, I wonât go in. If I disturbed her rest, it would be my fault.â Lysanne turned to Josiah. âJosiah, you donât need to worry about me. I can go back to my ward by myself. You should explain things to Dr. Thorne properly, so thereâs no misunderstanding because of me.â
She then gave Daphne a look. âMs. Everhart, shall we leave together? Letâs give them some alone time.â
Daphne crossed her arms and studied her, laughing at her words. âStop pretending. I havenât forgotten how Lysander was nearly burnt to death back then. Are you playing the innocent now?â
âI was bewitched back then. I-
âThatâs enough. I donât care who bewitched you. You attempted murder. Just you wait. Iâll get a lawyer and make sure youâre behind bars. And donât even mention your parents. Even if God himself showed up, youâd still have to face the music!â
Daphneâs voice grew louder as she spoke.
However, within the hospital, especially at the entrance of the wards, maintaining silence was crucial.
Lysander was just about to caution Daphne when hy wrist was suddenly seized and she was led away.

Josiah didnât take her to her office instead, he found a nearby staircase. After leading her in, he promptly closed the door behind them.
âWhat I just said is the truth. Thereâs nothing going on between Lysanne and me.â
Lysander nodded. âI believe you.â
Josiah let out a slight sigh. âYour parents, I mean Mr. and Mrs. Thorne, asked me to promise to take care of Lysanne. The fire incident happened abruptly and Lysanne did get burned. I brought my mom and her to the hospital. I only got her medicine because she didnât bring any money. I helped pay the fee and picked up the medicine for her. Thatâs pretty much what happened.â
âIâve told you, I believe you.â
Josiah took a deep breath and calmed down considerably. âDaphne just mentioned she intends to sue Lysanne in court. Is this your idea?â
âSo what if it is, and what if it isnât?â
âIf thatâs what you wish for, itâs completely understandable. After all, youâre the victim here. Itâs only right for you to seek justice through the law. Iâll help you find a lawyer.â
âHavenât you promised the old couple to take care of Lysanne? If I do send Lysanne to jail, how will you explain it to them?â
Josiah slightly furrowed his brows. âIâll arrange things to lessen her suffering inside
âLetâs discuss this matter later. At the very least, we should wait until Molly wakes up. Iâm worried that she might faint again if she hears this news before sheâs fully recovered.â
âAll right.â
âYou brought me here just to tell me this?â
Josiah finally showed a hint of concern in his gaze. He looked her up and down. âYou still look a bit worn out Iâll have Ms. Collins come pick you up later to take you back to the resort for some rest. Iâll stay here with Mrs. Thorne in the afternoon.â
âNo need. Youâve been busy all night, dealing with the fire and the burns. I can manage on my own.â
âSpeaking of burns⦠I suppose itâs time for me to change my dressing.â
âAll right, you head to the burn department then. Iâm going back to the ward.â
Her wrist was seized once again.
