The Charming Ex-Wife ( Lysander and Josiah ) Online Novel
Chapter 449 Short Of Clothes
Observing him, Lysander deduced he wasnât really intending to flout the law.
She took a glance at the few people outside earlier. Their clothing seemed identical, giving off the impression they were workers.
âHurry up,â urged Josiah.
Lysander entered her room and found a looseâfitting sports jacket, which she draped over herself like at cloak
Josiah was finally satisfied.
His gaze unintentionally fell upon his blazer she had casually draped over the back of the chair.
Lysander said, âYour clothes are quite expensive, so I didnât dare to wash them with water. Iâll take them to the dry cleaners this afternoon and return them to you once theyâre clean.â
With a stoic expression, Josiah casually replied, âIâll leave it here with you for now.â
âAre you not going to wear it?â
âDo I look like Iâm short of clothes?â
Lysander didnât argue with him and said, âBut itâs taking up space in my house.â
Josiah said, âThen hang it on the balcony.â
âThen itâll take up space on my drying rack.â
Suddenly, Lysander remembered what the police had told her earlier that dayâshe could hang menâs clothing on the balcony.
Is that what he meant?
Noticing the realization in her gaze, Josiah didnât elaborate further and asked, âWhereâs your nightgown?â
âIâve taken it off to discard it. Why?â
*Nothing. I just noticed the recent drastic change in your clothing style. Iâve never seen you wear such a sexy nightgown before.â
Sery?
âThat was just an ordinary nightgown. There are only so many styles for a womanâs nightgown, after all.â
Josiahâs expression darkened even more, and his tone became sarcastic as he jabbed again, âYour pajamas used to be twoâpiece sets, with long sleeves and long pants. Did you buy it especially for Adrian?â
Lysander was at a loss for words. âI bought this at the supermarket after I returned to the country. The other styles werenât pure cotton, only this one was, so I bought it. What does it have to do with him? Also, didnât you say yesterday that both you and he couldnât come in?â

sc*m from last night do this? Where else are you hurt? How did it get so bad?â
Lysander turned away. âItâs just a bruise; itâll heal on its own after a while.â
Josiahâs gaze, however, kept lingering on her neck.
Lysander noticed him staring at her neck and pulled her jacket higher uneasily.
Josiah, vexed, pulled something out of his pocket and tossed it to her. âHere, this is for you.â
Instinctively, Lysander caught it and took a look. âAnalgesic balm?â
.34%
Josiahâs frown faded as he quickly explained before she could ask, âYeah. I injured my wrist a while back, and this was useful. You should give it a try too.â
Sbe accepted his kindness, albeit reluctantly. âAll right then, thank you.â
Josiah didnât mind her reluctance and glanced in the direction of the door. âTheyâre all men. Why donât you stay in your room for a bit? Iâve brought them here to fix the windows, and while theyâre at it, theyâll replace your lock too.â
He was naturally wellâprepared.
So those large items are actually raw materials for the windows.
Lysander wasnât particularly surprised by this, though she was a bit puzzled. âHow did you know the size of my floorâtoâceiling window?â
Josiah remained expressionless. âBoth yours and mine are of the same size. I had them measure it at my place and customâmade the glass.â
His explanation made perfect sense.
Josiah noticed Lysanderâs hesitation and added nonchalantly, âI broke your window last night, so itâs only right that I fix it for you. Hurry up. The workers are waiting outside. I have other plans after this.â
âOkay.â Not wanting to waste their time, Lysander nodded and retreated into her bedroom.
The clamor in the living room went on for quite some time before it ceased. They were likely dismantling the deformed window frames.
Lysander took out her phone and saw several messages from Daphne, asking about her situation.
She responded to the messages, reassuring Daphne that there was no need to worry.
Once they finished their conversation, the noise from outside had ceased for quite some time. The window replacement had likely been completed.
The rhythmic patter of footsteps echoed from outside the bedroom door.
Josiah knocked on the door. âItâs done. Come out and take a look.â
Lysander had assumed that he simply brought workers to replace the floorâtoâceiling windows, but what she saw caught her off guard.

Chapter 449 Short Of Clothes
The balcony windows had essentially been overhauled. It was evident that the glass was now several times. thicker than before. Moreover, an additional layer of security mesh had been added outside, making it seem as impregnable as a fortress.
âDonât you
think this is too much?â She walked over and carefully felt the material. These antiâtheft windows, from frame to rod, seemed to be entirely made of alloy, looking exceptionally sturdy.
Josiah casually stated, âNot at all. All highâend residences are equipped whh antiâtheft windows now. Thereâs a remote control here that can be used to roll it up or down. It wonât affect the lighting in your house or hinder you from drying your clothes.â
Lysander was not worried about that. Hesitating to speak at first, she eventually asked after some contemplation. âHow much did you spend on all these things?â
Josiahâs gaze suddenly turned frosty. âWhat do you mean?â
Lysander remained composed, âI donât want you to spend too much. You broke the window last night to save me, so naturally, I should be the one to cover the cost of the replacement.â
She then glanced at the group of workers, adding. âAnd thereâs also the labor fee.â
Josiah chuckled. âIf the person who came to help you repair your window today was Adrian, would you still insist on paying him?â
Lysander remained silent and pondered over this issue. What would I have done if it was Adrian who came? Iâd decline his offer to help and rather do everything myself than trouble him again.
Seeing her remain silent, Josiah thought she was hesitating and scoffed, amused by his own presumptuousness.
Lysander grew annoyed. âWhat are you scoffing at?â
A smirk of sarcasm appeared on Josiahâs face as he said, âYour best friendâs family is in debt, and your own. family is in a hurry to make the house payment. Are you sure you still have money to give me?â
He was well aware of Lysanderâs predicament, so he deliberately said, âThese materials arenât cheap, and I hired only the best workers.â
Lysander would rather be ridiculed by him than owe him another favor. Hearing that, she calmed down and said, âI might not have enough cash on hand, but thereâs always another option.â
With that, she pulled out her phone and opened up the payment app.
Josiah took a step forward, staring straight into her bright eyes. He wore a complex expression, and his words were harsh. âIf youâre so short of money, have you ever thought about asking Adrian for some? The Sutton family isnât lacking in resources. Iâm sure heâll give you if you ask. A few million means nothing to
him.â
Lysander looked back at him calmly, raising a logical counterâquestion. âI share no familial or personal ties with Adrian. We were former colleagues at best. Why would he lend me money?â
âTrust me. I understand men/better than you do. A man is willing to do anything for the woman he likes,â Josiah said with an icy tone.
