The Charming Ex-Wife ( Lysander and Josiah ) Online Novel
Chapter 456 Resisting Your Lead And Move Backwards
âMr. Guerra, youâre too kindâ Whitney immediately turned her attention away from Lysanne. Her face lit up with a smile as she engaged in a discussion about the project with him.
Daphnie drew in a sharp breath as uncertainty washing over her. She wasnât sure if Josiah had heard the harsh words sheâd spoken behind his back. With a tinge of guilt, she subtly moved a few steps behind Lysander.
Josiah had deliberately donned a smoky grey suit for the occasion. The tailored fit accentuated his broad shoulders and long legs, making his impressive physique even more striking. He naturally exuded an aura of authority the moment he stood there.
Tiffany tilted her face up and gave him a smile. âJose!â
âMm.â Josiah responded gently. His gaze naturally swept over Daphne and Lysander who were standing before him. Then he turned to Whitney and asked, âMs. Spears, are you also acquainted with Ms. Everhart?â
Upon seeing how swiftly the topic had changed, Whitney was only briefly taken aback before she continued, âI only met Ms. Everhart recently. I heard that Everhart Corporation is currently seeking financing, so we got together to discuss it. Oh, and her friend, Dr. Thorne, is quite the professional. She has just cleared up quite a few things for me.â
Josiah turned his head, raising an eyebrow. âOh?â
Whitney chuckled, âHowever, having a conversation with Dr. Thorne is quite straightforward. We say what we mean, and everyone is rather direct. It makes communication much more efficient.â
Holding his wine glass, Josiah clinked it against hers. âYou all are experts in your respective fields, but she isnât as adept at socializing as you. Sheâs a bit stubborn and not really good at small talk. Let me raise a toast to you on her behalf if she has offended you in any way.â
Having said that, he tilted his head back, draining every last drop of red wine from his glass.
Whitneyâs previously wavering heart instantly settled down after hearing the tone of the conversation. âNot at all, Dr. Thorne is a professional. She has a promisingly bright future based on her skills alone, so thereâs no need for these nebulous social courtesies. Rest assured, Mr. Guerra, my conversation with Dr. Thorne went very well.â
âThatâs good then.â
Whitney asked a probing question, âIt seems like Dr. Thorne and Ms. Everhart are quite close. Is it Ms. Everhart who invites her over today?â
Josiah asked, âIs it about the fundraising matter?â
âYeah, about the current situation of the Everhart familyâ¦â Whitney chuckled lightly, âActually, Iâm a bit. puzzled too. If they were such good friends, why did Mr. Guerra suddenly abandon Everhart Corporation and choose to collaborate with Riveron Corporation instead?â
I
âOf course, I had my own considerations.â
âRight, thatâs true,â she agreed.

Then Josiah casually brought up, âI happen to know a bit about Everhart Corporation. Just to mention, Mr. Everhart hasnât made an appearance domestically for quite some time.â
âI seeâ¦â Whitney had indeed became interested. She glanced at Daphne and said, âNo wonder it was always Ms. Everhart who came to discuss financing matters with me before. I wonder when Mr. Everhart will return.â
Hearing that, Daphne was unable to respond.
An unsettling premonition surged within Lysander, yet it was inappropriate to comment excessively on Everhart Corporationâs affairs. All she could hope for was that Josiah wouldnât cross the line.
Josiah was unfazed by the gazes that fell upon him. He casually gestured for a waiter, and replaced the
drink in his hand with a new one.
âI heard that Mr. Everhart had to go abroad to take care of his ailing mother, leaving him no time to deal with matters here. As a result, business affairs have to be handed over to Ms. Everhart. However, it seems Ms. Everhart doesnât have a strong grasp on these matters either. Not long ago, she was pursued by the bank for a loan repayment. Personally, Iâm not very optimistic about the future of Everhart Corporation.â
Whitney was tasked with making profitable investments for the company, so the term âpursuedâ particularly struck a chord with her. Her expression changed instantly. âIn Mr. Guerraâs perspective, how should Everhart Corporation move forward from now on?â
Josiah was straightforward, not mincing his words as he said, âIâm not sure about that. All I know is that, barring a miracle, investing in this corporation would be like throwing money into a black hole.â
The more they spoke, the more serious it sounded.
Whitney didnât voice her agreement, but her expression clearly conveyed her approval.
After much difficulty, Daphne finally found a way to save Everhart Corporation, only to have it effortlessly snuffed out by Josiah. She was so frustrated that she could have rushed up and given him a piece of her mind right then and there. âJosiah, are you doing this out of spite?â she asked.
Seeing that, Lysander gently took hold of her, his voice hushed to a soothing whisper, âDaphne! Calm down!â
Even in her desperation to protect Everhart Corporation, Daphne dared not openly confront Josiah.. Hence, she had no choice but to swallow her anger and suppress her fury. Very quickly, her face turned red with suppressed rage, and her hands were trembling with the effort.
Josiah, however, didnât care in the slightest about what he had just said.
He handed his wine glass directly to a passing waiter in front of everyone. âIf you canât drink, then donât.â
Feeling a bit embarrassed. Tiffany said, âIâll learn gradually.â
Josiah frowned. âDonât believe everything you hear. Youâre not a child anymore, so you should have some discernment.â
Lysanne was right by her side, standing silently like a quail while Josiah was speaking with Whitney earlier.
Upon hearing Josiahâs words, her expression subtly shifted. Her hands, hanging by her side, instinctively clenthed in fear. She was afraid that Tiffany would yeal that she had been coerced into proposing a toast.

Whitney quietly observed the interaction between Josiah and Tiffany for a while, her face lit with amusement as she teased, âMr. Guerra, youâve certainly changed a lot from your younger days. Youâve become so gentle and considerate now. It is quite the contrast from your ruthless tactics in the past.â
âSome people simply donât appreciate that. In fact, being gentle with her is utterly useless. She only responds when things get a bit tough. Sheâs stubborn as a mule, resisting your lead and even move backwards.
Whitney burst into laughter. âMr. Guerra, youâre getting sentimental, arenât you?â
Josiah nodded. âIâve had my fair share of losses.â

After saying that, he finally turned his head to glance at Tiffany. âToday is your birthday, so you shouldnât just stay here all the time. You should go over there and hang out with your friends.â
âOh, I understand, Jose.â
Upon seeing his attitude, Lysanne was rather frightened, but she forced a smile nonetheless, explaining, âJosiah, there were so many people at Tiffanyâs birthday party today, and many of whom she hadnât met before. Of course, I have to help her identify them, which could also be considered as helping you out.â
âDo I need that?â
âIf you really have too much time on your hands, go to the hospital and relieve Mr. Thorne.â
âBut my parents arenât really keen on seeing me right nowâ¦â
Then just stay at home, and donât come out.â
Josiahâs tone was decidedly unfriendly, making it clear that he had no interest in saving her face.
Naturally, Lysander and Daphne were not willing to say anything at this moment. Even Whitney chose to remain silent, and did not attempt to mediate the situation.
Finally, Josiah made his concluding remark, âI have some people to meet, Ms. Spears, Iâll be taking my leave first.â
âAlright, Mr. Guerra.â
When Josiah left, he gave Lysander a deep, lingering look.
They brushed past each other.
