Chapter 471
The Charming Ex-Wife ( Lysander and Josiah ) Online Novel
Chapter 471 Struck Down By Illness
The flight attendant had already left before Lysander opened her eyes and didnât hear her unfinished sentence. Now, only the two of them were left staring at each other.
Looking calm, Josiah asked, âWhat are you looking at?â
Lysander realized it wasnât an illusion and immediately widened her eyes. She instinctively asked, âWas that you speaking just now?â
No wonder she found the voice of the person asking for the blanket familiar.
âOf course,â Josiah chuckled as if puzzled by the question. âWho else could it be? You didnât finish your sentence earlier. Did you also want a blanket?â
He was tall with long legs, so sitting in economy class meant he couldnât fully stretch them out. He was forced to sit sideways with one leg crossed over the other, speaking to her in a pose that seemed casual but was actually quite uncomfortable.
Lysander pulled up her mask, muffling her voice. âLetâs wait for the flight attendant to come back.â
The flight attendant returned swiftly, handing over a blanket to Josiah.
âThank you.â
Lysander quickly said, âExcuse me, could I alsoâ¦â
Josiah casually draped the blanket over her, saying, âHereâs the blanket you wanted.â
âYou should use it. Iâll ask for another one.â
âIt was meant for you,â Josiah said, frowning at her haggard appearance. âItâs only been a few days, and youâve gotten so sick?â
âIt was unexpected.â
The blanket did help warm her up a bit.
Lysander asked, âArenât you supposed to be in first class? What are you doing here in economy?â
With his hands crossed over his lap, Josiah responded with a question, âWhat do you think?â
âHow did you get like this?â
Lysanderâs weariness was obvious. There was no point in pretending otherwise, especially since her voice was thick with congestion. She had to be honest, âItâs nothing, just a cold.â
Her voice was raspy.
Josiah scrutinized her, staring into her eyes as he asked, âDid you stay up late reviewing past summits?â
âSomething like that.â
Josiah clearly didnât believe her and didnât bother to change his expression.

Now that she was warmer, Lysander felt a bit more spirited and casually replied, âI just caught a cold. It has its cycle, and todayâs the worst day. Iâll be fine after this.â
Seeing how much effort it took for her to speak, Josiah sighed. âIs attending this summit worth it when youâre sick?â
Lysander threw the question back at him, âDidnât you say this summit is a rare opportunity for
newcomers?â
Josiah still had a reason to argue, âI said before that I could take you. Since youâre sick, you could wait another day. It wouldnât affect your schedule, as the summit isnât just one day.â
It seemed a bit late to say that now.
Lysander was unwell, and her throat felt like it was splitting, so she didnât want to argue pointlessly.
However, Josiah started rambling, âI thought youâd have made some progress. But youâre still the same as before: you act like a lone hero at work, but in life, youâre a complete rookie who canât even take care of yourself.â
âEven the most capable people canât avoid getting a cold.â
Lysander ended the argument with one sentence, leaned back against the window, and tried to rest. After a while, she opened her heavy eyelids and murmured, âYou should go back.â
Josiah pretended not to understand. âGo back where? Weâre on a plane. Should I jump off?â
Lysander was just tired, not so confused that she couldnât understand such a simple matter. As she insisted he leave, her voice became faint.
âGo back to your firstâclass seat. I saw you and Tiffany at the boarding gate. You left her alone?â
Josiahâs expression was complicated. Seeing her, so tired she couldnât keep her eyes open, he finally gave up arguing and changed the subject, âSheâs an adult. Sheâs flown alone many times. Iâm not her father. Do I have to follow her everywhere? Go to sleep. We still have an hour before we land.â
Finally, it was his turn to tell her this, though it didnât bring him the satisfaction he expected.
Lysander didnât respond, nor did she argue. She was too exhausted to muster any energy. Sheâd been so tired lately.
Josiah reached out, lowered the window shade, and adjusted the blanket over her.
Lysanderâs small face was halfâhidden in the blanket, and a few stray strands of hair scattered across her forehead. She looked uneasy even in sleep.
Upon seeing her asleep, Josiah realized she would no longer utter words that infuriated him to no end. His gaze softened significantly.
She was more docile when she was asleep.
Otherwise, she would eventually drive him crazy.
An hour had never passed so quickly.

âLadies and Gentlemen, the plane is about to land at Apex City Airportâ¦â
Lysander woke with a shiver. Though she hadnât slept long, it was a rare deep sleep that restored much of her drained energy.
When the announcement played, passengers couldnât move around freely anymore.
Recalling the preâsleep conversation, Lysander sat up straight, feeling frustrated. She told the person next to her, âYou and Tiffany can disembark first. Iâll wait a bit longer.â
There was no response.
Lysander turned to check Josiahâs whereabouts and found that he was no longer occupying the seat next to her.
The middleâaged man from earlier had returned, wearing headphones and seemingly oblivious to her words.
Could it be that Josiahâs appearance in the economy class was just a dream I had?
Instinctively, Lysander tightened her grip on the blanket that covered her. After confirming her reality, she banished the thought from her mind. This was definitely not her imagination, he had simply left before she woke up.

Noticing the movement, the middleâaged man removed his headphones and chatted with her. âAre you here on a business trip too? There are so many events lately that we frequent travelers practically live on planes.â
The cramped economy seat made Lysanderâs back ache. She agreed, âYes.â
The middleâaged man was chatty and friendly. âI got lucky this time. A young guy from first class switched seats with me. First class really is much more comfortable.â
