The Charming ExâWife
Chapter 513 Between Men
Aurora widened her eyes without blinking while they argued, her gaze filled with bewilderment. She was so engrossed in the adultsâ conversation that she didnât even pay attention to the other kids in the playground, curiously staring at the adults, turning her head from time to time. Upon locking eyes with someone, sheâd even flash an adorable smile.
Daphne had her back facing Josiah, her anger subsiding when she wasnât looking at his face. Her disappointment, however, was apparent as she listlessly changed the topic. âThis kidâs quite outgoing and
brave.â
Lysander thought about the outgoing and cheerful Nieva, sincerely complimenting. âYeah, she probably takes after her mom. Ms. Lionhart has a cheerful and straightforward personality.â
Daphne held Auroraâs tiny hand. âI donât mean to raise my voice, so donât be scared, okay?â
The baby cooed and smiled in response.
Daphne smiled, too, taking the baby from Lysander and approaching Josiah, suppressing her annoyance as she handed the child over to him. âMs. Lionhartâs your friend, so you should look after her child. You donât mind, do you?â
Daphne was filled with irritation at the sight of Josiah. In a huff, she handed Aurora over to him, hoping to see him flustered and in distress. However, to her surprise, he held the child confidently and calmly.
Aurora, seemingly familiar with him, even broke into a wide grin.
Josiah lowered his head to gaze at the baby with a gentle smile, wearing a rare tender look on his face. âNo problem. You guys go ahead and talk.â
Lysander walked over to grab Daphne. âHave you had breakfast yet? Letâs go grab something to eat.â
Daphne said defiantly, âNo need. Iâm so upset I donât even feel like eating. Itâs stifling here. Letâs go. somewhere else to get some fresh air!â
She took Lysanderâs hand as she spoke, wanting to pull her away, but she soon paused and turned to Adrian. âThanks for sending me here today. You can go about your business. Iâll treat you to a meal another day.â
Adrian, however, said, âYou guys go ahead. I still have some matters to deal with.â
As he spoke, his gaze remained fixed on Josiah. Josiah noticed that and calmly met his gaze.
The two men went head to head against each other, leaving Lysander uneasy.
Aiden, too, was frightened, stepping in to interrupt, âYou came here for me, didnât you, Adrian? Letâs go. We can talk on the way.â
âAiden, now that your job is done, you can leave too.â Josiah was the one who spoke up instead of Adrian.
Both men shared the same goal of wanting Aiden to leave, but that only made Lysander even more worried.
Aiden was shaking like a leaf. âBâBut I donât have anything to do if I head back. Itâs beautiful here. I guess

Adrianâs expression turned cold, too. âYou donât have to. Go ahead and donât wait for me.â
A lightbulb went off in Aidenâs mind, and he immediately blocked Lysanderâs path. âSince no oneâs leaving, you guys should stay, too. Letâs all have a good chat. Itâll be fun!â
Daphne glanced at Josiah, then at Adrian. âWait, what are you two up to? One is an exâhusband, and the other is a colleague. Youâre both out of the game, so thereâs no chance left for either of you.â
Neither of them spoke, yet neither one chose to leave.
Aiden panicked and pleaded with his brother quietly, âWeâre in Josiahâs territory after all. Can we go back first?â
âThis is a resort, not the Guerra familyâs prison. Iâm just going to talk to him, so get out of the way.â
âIâm not getting in your way! I was just worried that-â
Josiah interrupted Aiden. âItâs good that youâre here, Dr. Sutton. I happen to have something I want to discuss with you, too.
Lysander was filled with worry. âPerhaps we should all sit down and talk.â
Josiah flashed a nonchalant smile. âThis is between men, so stay out of this. Go on, donât worry. I know what Iâm doing.â
Lysander looked at him skeptically, not saying a word,
Holding the babyâs tiny hand and waving it, Josiah reassured, âDonât worry. I have the baby here with me. I wonât do anything out of line.â
Aurora nestled in his arms, as docile as a kitten. She could tell that Josiah genuinely adored this child and was certain he wouldnât do anything drastic in front of her.

Daphne gave her a tug. âLetâs go.â
The childrenâs playground was filled with the cheerful chatter and laughter of kids. Yet, the three adults. standing nearby didnât say a word, the tension between them palpable. It was so quiet that Aurora got bored and yawned.
Pulling the hoodie over the babyâs head and placing her in the stroller, Josiah lowered the windscreen and asked calmly, âSo, where should we talk, Dr. Sutton?â
Adrian replied nonchalantly. âThis place is yours, so why donât you decide?â
Josiah nodded. âCome with me, you two,â
Aiden quickly glanced at Adrian, noticing that he had no intention of picking a fight with Josiah and instead followed him quietly. Relieved, Aiden quickly caught up with them.
He wouldâve found an excuse to escape if Josiah hadnât asked the two of them to come.
Josiah led them all the way back to the restaurant.
It was way past breakfast jime. Although fruits and drinks were available, most of the guests were on vacation and wouldnât stav in the hotel all day. Only a few guests busy working on their laptops were sitting

in the restaurant.
This was the best place for a discussion.
Josiah scanned the place and summoned a waiter. âThese two are my guests. I need a quiet corner.
The waiter quickly grasped the situation and called a colleague for assistance. Together, they moved a folding screen from the back, creating a temporary private space for them.
Alarms went off in Aidenâs head when he saw that. He suspected they were about to discuss a major secret, and spoke up, ignoring the fact that his interjection might draw attention to his presence. âUm, should I step out? Or perhaps I could take the child outside?â
Josiah knew what he was thinking and glanced at him expressionlessly. âYou should sit down too.â
Aiden dared not go anywhere. Biting the bullet, he took a seat between the two of them.
The waiter quickly brought some hot coffee over, stepping aside after setting the cups down.
Josiah glanced over at the waiter who was standing aside waiting for orders, and the latter quickly left, making sure to close the folding screen behind him.
That corner was soon transformed into a secluded spot, and the tension was almost palpable.
The coffee pot on the table was made of highâquality materials and was quite heavy, Josiah, fulfilling his duties as the host, picked it up and poured the Sutton brothers two cups of coffee, pushing the cups Toward them.
The coffeeâs aroma was tantalizingly strong, and one could tell at a glance it was good coffee.
Aiden tactfully handed his brother one of the cups first before picking up.

âThank you.â Adrian took a small sip of coffee before asking. âPlease begin, Mr. Guerra.â
âI do have something to inform you,â Josiah said nonchalantly, sitting crossâlegged, his gaze indifferent as he spoke.
âI want to reconcile with Lysander. Thatâs something between us and I didnât need to share it with others, but I thought I should inform you as a token of my gratitude for how you cared for her in the past. If you ever need
any assistance in the future, please feel free to let me know. Iâll do my best to help.â
