The Charming Ex-Wife ( Lysander and Josiah ) Online Novel
The Charming ExâWife
Chapter 549 The Story Sounds Familiar
Josiah had recently suffered Maverickâs verbal abuse and took Daphneâs hostility in his stride, not letting it bother him.
âI sec.â Nieva said with a hint of interest while nodding her head. âSo, does his securing my investment for you lessen your dislike for him a little?â
Daphine pouted. âBusiness is business, but I still strongly disagree with him pursuing Lysander.â
âHmm. Mr. Guerra, did you hear that? Youâve got a long and difficult task ahead of you!â
Josiah rubbed his temples. âIâm working on it. I know Iâve made mistakes, so I have to correct them. Only by showing others that Iâve changed can I gain their acceptance.â
Lysander didnât have the time to pay him any attention. Instead, she noticed a hint of reluctance in Nievaâs smile.
Hiking would usually allow one to relax and unwind, but compared to before she left, she seemed to have acquired a subtle hint of melancholy.
âMs. Lionhart,â Lysander carefully began, âActually, I saw someone at the hotel last night.â
âWho is it?â
This time, it was Josiah who responded, âElio.â
The smile on Nievaâs face vanished instantly. She lifted her coffee and took a sip, a bitter taste lingering. âWhat did he tell you?â she asked.
Lysanderâs voice showed a hint of concern. âHe said he needed to see you urgently. When he couldnât find you, he left in a hurry. Did he manage to reach you?â
âYeah.â Nieva put down her cup, then playfully covered Auroraâs ears. Her voice dripped with sarcasm as she said, âHeâs the sort who wonât stop until he gets what he wants. If he traveled all this way to find me, he has to see me no matter what.â
Josiah felt that Elio was like a puzzle he couldnât solve, probing further, âWhat exactly did he want from you?â
Daphne became increasingly anxious, fearing that the trouble was indeed caused by her contract.
âItâs a cause for celebration.â After taking a bite of her dessert, Nieva managed to regain some semblance of a smile. âI reckon Iâll be able to divorce him soon. I wonât have to keep up this facade in front of others anymore.â
The surroundings echoed with noticeable gasps, for the news had come to suddenly.
Lysander looked at Nieva with a heavy heart, suspecting that she was merely putting on a brave face.
After all, she had truly lived through the same experience in the past.

Lysander looked at Aurora, who was still happily laughing, and was struck by a troubled feeling. âDid he suggest it? Why so sudden?â
Nieva shrugged indifferently. âYeah, the woman heâs seeing outside is pregnant. He probably wants to make it official with her, so who knows?â
This story sounded eerily familiar.
No wonder Elio didnât acknowledge his own daughter. Perhaps, in his eyes, she is merely a byproduct of his climb to the pinnacle of power. As for his real child, it is peacefully growing in the womb of another woman.
Josiahâs brows were tightly knitted, as he was utterly disgusted by Elioâs adulterous behavior. Yet, ironically, he was the least qualified person there to judge the latter.
Lysander was being more practical. âWhat are your plans for the future? Itâs quite tough to raise a baby on your own.â
âLetâs just take it one step at a time,â Nieva said with a resigned smile. âIâve had enough anyway. I consider this as my escape. Plus, I have Aurora. It doesnât matter if her father doesnât care for her, I will give her double the love. Iâll be there for her as she grows up, giving her the very best the world has to offer.â
Nevia looked incredibly at ease, as if she had truly let go of a heavy burden. Yet her hand remained protectively over Auroraâs ear, even if the latter was still too young to comprehend their conversation.
Daphne was filled with righteous indignation. âI despise unfaithful men the most. Elio has treated you and your daughter unjustly. I hope he finds no peace at home with his new love, and may the child not be his!â
Her words were laced with venom, and as she spoke, she kept glancing in Josiahâs direction.
Knowing he was in the wrong, Josiah kept his head bowed down.
Nevertheless, Nieva waved her hand dismissively. âIt doesnât matter anymore, as long as he doesnât show up in front of me ever again.â
She was utterly indifferent to Elioâs future life. Instead, she picked up her phone and hailed a cab.
âBut youâve reminded me of something. Since he already knows about this place, I canât stay here for long. Iâll have to entrust Aurora to you next time.â
Nieva began to rise and tidy up. Cradling Aurora in her arms, she looked to be having some difficulty.
Lysander quickly offered, âLet me help you.â
She efficiently tidied up Auroraâs toys and clothes with Daphne, even remembering to refill the thermos with hot water.
Josiah wasnât idle either. He handed over the toys and wet wipes he had purchased over the past two days, saying, âTake these as well. Aurora might need them during the journey.â
âThanks.â Nieva didnât stand on ceremony with them, holding her baby as she spoke. âMr. Guerra, Ms. Thorne, if there ever comes a day when Iâm homeless, Iâll have to come to your place for a meal.â
Josiah readily agreed, âNo problem. Youâre always welcome.â

Daphne immediately made her stand clear, pulling Lysander along with her. âMr. Guerra is a busy man, and itâs the housekeepers who cook at his home. Ms. Lionhart, why donât you come to my place instead? Lysander and I will personally prepare a meal for you.â
Upon seeing Daphne blatantly trying to undermine Josiah, Nieva chose to leave in silence, smiling while doing so.
Lysander watched as the car carrying Nieva and Aurora drove off into the distance, feeling an inexplicable tightness in her chest.
All the previous worries related to Aurora had indeed become a reality.
Daphne was still seething with indignation on Nievaâs behalf. âMs. Lionhart is such a wonderful person, yet Elio could actually abandon her and their daughter. Heâs truly blind! Tell me, whatâs wrong with these wealthy people, are they all blind?â.
âEvery family has its own problems, Ms. Lionhart has already made her choice.â Suddenly, Lysander seemed to see a reflection of her past self.
Daphne was still upset but soon received a call from the company urging her to return.
Lysander advised her, âYou should head back now. Donât let this get in the way of work.â
Daphne carefully put away the contract, bidding them farewell. She said, âLysander, take good care of yourself, and Iâll have good news to share soon!â
âMmmâhmm.â Lysander believed in her abilities, encouraging her, âLetâs work hard together!â
Daphne was quite encouraged. However, as she passed by Josiah, her smile faltered for a moment.
Josiah appeared calm, his attention solely focused on Lysander.
Daphneâs feelings of gratitude and resentment were evident. Although reluctant, she still muttered something under her breath. Once she finished, she walked without hesitation.

Josiahâs attention was entirely focused on Lysander, barely hearing her mumbled words. By the time he wanted to ask her what she had muttered, she was nowhere to be seen.
Fortunately, Lysander was able to hear clearly. Ignoring the reluctant tone in Daphneâs voice, she repeate âShe said thank you.â
This was the same thing Lysander had wanted to say to him.
If it hadnât been for Josiahâs intervention, it wouldnât have been impossible to get into Nievaâs network.
Josiah replied nonchalantly, âThatâs the least I can do.â
