Aiden finally noticed that
iah had been standing in the hallway for a while, but had no intention of opening the door. He asked in confusion. âJosiah, did you lose your house keys?â
Josiah replied calmly, âI forgot to take them when I went out last night. Theyâre locked inside.â
He did not explain why he had gone out, but given his attire and the direction he had come from, the answer was obvious.
Seeing Lysanderâs figure flash by in the background, Aiden and Zane exchanged knowing looks and nodded in unison. They deliberately raised their voices. âIt is normal to lock your keys inside! Totally normal! Everyone makes mistakes! We get it.â
Mindful of Lysander, Josiah did not plan to chat for long. Wrapping up, he said, âI canât get back into my place for now, so I wonât keep you. As for the phone issueâ¦â
He turned to Aiden. âYouâll just have to be patient for a few days. With your spare phone, anyone important will still be able to reach you. Take care of yourself.
Fully agreeing. Zane was ready to leave. But Aiden asked, âWhat about you, Josiah?â
Josiah seemed unbothered by his own situation and answered calmly, âWhat else can I do? Iâll go to the company to get my spare phone.â
Aiden shook his head repeatedly. âI meant your door. How are you going to handle that? You canât change clothes if you canât get inside.â
That was indeed an issue. He couldnât wander around in his loungewear.
Despite the inconvenience, Josiah seemed in good spirits. âIâll stay on Lysanderâs couch for a few days. Weâll figure it out later.â
Couch?
Aiden and Zane eyed him skeptically, clearly not buying his explanation.
Playing along, Zane nodded without commenting further, knowing they couldnât just barge into Lysanderâs place to check.
Still concerned about his phone, Aiden suggested, âJosiah, why suffer? Just call a locksmith to open the
door.â
Such a simple solution shouldnât have been overlooked.
Aiden was genuinely baffled by this.
Josiahâs expression changed visibly. His eyes narrowed coldly. âWhat did you say? I did not catch that.â
âI saidâ¦â
Zane quickly covered Aidenâs mouth again, interrupting him. âJosiah, heâs been a bit out of sorts lately. Iâll take him to the hospital to get his head checked.â

If Aiden did not catch on now, their years of friendship would be in vain. He did not struggle to free himself from Zaneâs grip this time and waved goodbye to Josiah.
Zane dragged him into the elevator before letting go.
âWhew!â Aiden took a deep breath. Zane had almost suffocated him with his strength.
âWas that really necessary?â he asked irritably.
They had known Josiah for so long. Even if they slipped up, it wouldnât be that serious.
Zane really wanted to pry open Aidenâs head to see what was inside. He retorted, âCan you think about something other than girls for once? Josiah did not close the door when he came out!â
The atmosphere suddenly turned awkward.
Realizing the thin walls and potential repercussions, Aiden let out a sigh that sounded like he had narrowly escaped death. âAre you saying Lysander might feel embarrassed?â
Zane spread his hands. âWhether embarrassed or not, I donât know. But I did see Lysander in a nightgown when she passed by. If Josiah found out we saw her like that, heâd gouge our eyes out.â
It was a good thing that the two of them left early!
Aiden patted his chest, silently giving Zane a thumbsâup, âGood friends for life!â
Meanwhile, Josiah had gathered his thoughts and returned to Lysanderâs place. A short while later, Lysander had not only finished freshening up but also changed clothes, looking ready to go out.
Seeing Josiah return, Lysander did not react much, instead focusing on giving water to the Ragdoll kitten.
The supplies for the cat were limited, and aside from food, most of its needs were being met with White Coatâs belongings. Luckily, the requirements for kittens and puppies were similar, allowing her to make do.
Once she got White Coat, back, it became apparent that there were quite a few things that needed to be added to the household.
Josiah added some cat food to an empty bowl, pushing it toward the kitten. âIâll buy a few more bowls next time. By the way, is the litter cleaned? I suppose you havenât had time to buy an automatic litter boxâ
Last night, Lysander had temporarily used a cardboard box as a litter box.
He was still fixated on discussing his ârewardâ with Lysander.
Lysander pointed to the packed trash. âItâs already cleaned. The cat was wellâtrained at the Cattery. It uses the litter box on its own.â
Though still a kitten, it had developed good habits, saving Lysander the trouble of training it.
Josiah took the opportunity to say, âThatâs good. Once you get busy, it wonât need too much of your time. But I heard that keeping cats and dogs together can require some effort.â
He almost asked if Lysander planned to bring White Coat back.

However, compared to dogs, what he really wanted to eliminate was the person currently caring for the dog.
Lysander stood up and said calmly. âWeâll see. If Dr. Sutton returns White Coat, weâll figure it out. Since I got them, Iâll be responsible for them. With proper guidance and fair treatment, they should get along
fine.
Josiah chuckled. âThat sounds like raising children.â
He picked up the Ragdoll kitten after it had finished drinking water. The kitten was softly licking its paw where the fur had been dampened by water. Probably because it wasnât hungry, it did not eat the cat food heâd provided.
Lysander packed his things and glanced at the food bowl. âDonât feed it too many treats. If it eats too many, it wonât want to eat its regular food.â
This principle applied universally.
Josiah nodded obediently. âGot it.â
After those words were spoken, both of them were momentarily taken aback.
The conversation they just had sounded almost like a married couple discussing their parenting styles.
Lysander was the first to calm down and quickly changed the subject. âDid Aiden need something this morning?â
She was eager to send Josiah back to his own home.
Josiah calmly replied, âNothing much, just that he left his phone at my place.â
Lysander was exasperated. âDidnât Aiden help you rent this place? He does not have your keys?â
Josiah nodded seriously. âOf course not. I donât like others having access to my home. By the way, I have a favor to ask. Since I canât get inside to get my phone and clothes, could you buy me something to wear for today?â
He watched her reaction closely.
Lysander grabbed her bag, prepared for this moment.
âNo need. I already called Ms. Collins and explained your situation. Sheâll be here soon with a locksmith. Once the door is open, you can go home and change.â
Josiah was speechless.
âI have plans today, so I need to go now. Please lock up when you leave. Thanks.â
âYou have plans? With whom?â
Before he could finish, Lysander was already out the door.
