Aiden finally noticed that

iah had been standing in the hallway for a while, but had no intention of opening the door. He asked in confusion. “Josiah, did you lose your house keys?”

Josiah replied calmly, “I forgot to take them when I went out last night. They’re locked inside.”

He did not explain why he had gone out, but given his attire and the direction he had come from, the answer was obvious.

Seeing Lysander’s figure flash by in the background, Aiden and Zane exchanged knowing looks and nodded in unison. They deliberately raised their voices. “It is normal to lock your keys inside! Totally normal! Everyone makes mistakes! We get it.”

Mindful of Lysander, Josiah did not plan to chat for long. Wrapping up, he said, “I can’t get back into my place for now, so I won’t keep you. As for the phone issue…”

He turned to Aiden. “You’ll just have to be patient for a few days. With your spare phone, anyone important will still be able to reach you. Take care of yourself.

Fully agreeing. Zane was ready to leave. But Aiden asked, “What about you, Josiah?”

Josiah seemed unbothered by his own situation and answered calmly, “What else can I do? I’ll go to the company to get my spare phone.”

Aiden shook his head repeatedly. “I meant your door. How are you going to handle that? You can’t change clothes if you can’t get inside.”

That was indeed an issue. He couldn’t wander around in his loungewear.

Despite the inconvenience, Josiah seemed in good spirits. “I’ll stay on Lysander’s couch for a few days. We’ll figure it out later.”

Couch?

Aiden and Zane eyed him skeptically, clearly not buying his explanation.

Playing along, Zane nodded without commenting further, knowing they couldn’t just barge into Lysander’s place to check.

Still concerned about his phone, Aiden suggested, “Josiah, why suffer? Just call a locksmith to open the

door.”

Such a simple solution shouldn’t have been overlooked.

Aiden was genuinely baffled by this.

Josiah’s expression changed visibly. His eyes narrowed coldly. “What did you say? I did not catch that.”

“I said…”

Zane quickly covered Aiden’s mouth again, interrupting him. “Josiah, he’s been a bit out of sorts lately. I’ll take him to the hospital to get his head checked.”

If Aiden did not catch on now, their years of friendship would be in vain. He did not struggle to free himself from Zane’s grip this time and waved goodbye to Josiah.

Zane dragged him into the elevator before letting go.

“Whew!” Aiden took a deep breath. Zane had almost suffocated him with his strength.

“Was that really necessary?” he asked irritably.

They had known Josiah for so long. Even if they slipped up, it wouldn’t be that serious.

Zane really wanted to pry open Aiden’s head to see what was inside. He retorted, “Can you think about something other than girls for once? Josiah did not close the door when he came out!”

The atmosphere suddenly turned awkward.

Realizing the thin walls and potential repercussions, Aiden let out a sigh that sounded like he had narrowly escaped death. “Are you saying Lysander might feel embarrassed?”

Zane spread his hands. “Whether embarrassed or not, I don’t know. But I did see Lysander in a nightgown when she passed by. If Josiah found out we saw her like that, he’d gouge our eyes out.”

It was a good thing that the two of them left early!

Aiden patted his chest, silently giving Zane a thumbs–up, “Good friends for life!”

Meanwhile, Josiah had gathered his thoughts and returned to Lysander’s place. A short while later, Lysander had not only finished freshening up but also changed clothes, looking ready to go out.

Seeing Josiah return, Lysander did not react much, instead focusing on giving water to the Ragdoll kitten.

The supplies for the cat were limited, and aside from food, most of its needs were being met with White Coat’s belongings. Luckily, the requirements for kittens and puppies were similar, allowing her to make do.

Once she got White Coat, back, it became apparent that there were quite a few things that needed to be added to the household.

Josiah added some cat food to an empty bowl, pushing it toward the kitten. “I’ll buy a few more bowls next time. By the way, is the litter cleaned? I suppose you haven’t had time to buy an automatic litter box”

Last night, Lysander had temporarily used a cardboard box as a litter box.

He was still fixated on discussing his “reward” with Lysander.

Lysander pointed to the packed trash. “It’s already cleaned. The cat was well–trained at the Cattery. It uses the litter box on its own.”

Though still a kitten, it had developed good habits, saving Lysander the trouble of training it.

Josiah took the opportunity to say, “That’s good. Once you get busy, it won’t need too much of your time. But I heard that keeping cats and dogs together can require some effort.”

He almost asked if Lysander planned to bring White Coat back.

However, compared to dogs, what he really wanted to eliminate was the person currently caring for the dog.

Lysander stood up and said calmly. “We’ll see. If Dr. Sutton returns White Coat, we’ll figure it out. Since I got them, I’ll be responsible for them. With proper guidance and fair treatment, they should get along

fine.

Josiah chuckled. “That sounds like raising children.”

He picked up the Ragdoll kitten after it had finished drinking water. The kitten was softly licking its paw where the fur had been dampened by water. Probably because it wasn’t hungry, it did not eat the cat food he’d provided.

Lysander packed his things and glanced at the food bowl. “Don’t feed it too many treats. If it eats too many, it won’t want to eat its regular food.”

This principle applied universally.

Josiah nodded obediently. “Got it.”

After those words were spoken, both of them were momentarily taken aback.

The conversation they just had sounded almost like a married couple discussing their parenting styles.

Lysander was the first to calm down and quickly changed the subject. “Did Aiden need something this morning?”

She was eager to send Josiah back to his own home.

Josiah calmly replied, “Nothing much, just that he left his phone at my place.”

Lysander was exasperated. “Didn’t Aiden help you rent this place? He does not have your keys?”

Josiah nodded seriously. “Of course not. I don’t like others having access to my home. By the way, I have a favor to ask. Since I can’t get inside to get my phone and clothes, could you buy me something to wear for today?”

He watched her reaction closely.

Lysander grabbed her bag, prepared for this moment.

“No need. I already called Ms. Collins and explained your situation. She’ll be here soon with a locksmith. Once the door is open, you can go home and change.”

Josiah was speechless.

“I have plans today, so I need to go now. Please lock up when you leave. Thanks.”

“You have plans? With whom?”

Before he could finish, Lysander was already out the door.
