The Charming Ex-Wife ( Lysander and Josiah ) Online Novel
Chapter 88 The Thorn In Josiahâs Heart
After taking off her apron, Eleanor rushed to pack Susanâs belongings in her bedroom.
Meanwhile, Josiah glanced at Susan, who was already seated on the sofa. Her eyes were closed, and she was twirling a string of prayer beads, seemingly engaged in prayer-clear signs she wished to avoid conversation with him.
Feeling helpless, Josiah sought out Eleanor, who efficiently packed Susanâs clothes and daily necessities.
He called out softly, âEleanor?â
âOh, Mr. Guerra,â Eleanor promptly responded.
âLet me help you,â Josiah offered.
Eleanor replied, âNo need, please sit down. I can handle it myself.â
Josiah reluctantly withdrew his outstretched hand and asked, âEleanor, why do you seem afraid of Lysanne?â
Uneasy, Eleanor stammered, âNo⦠No, not at all.â
Josiah continued, âIf thereâs something, just tell me directly.â
Lowering her head, Eleanor smiled faintly and admitted, âMr. Guerra, Iâve been a maid all my life. served many families, but only Madam truly treated me like family. Even you, I consider as my son.â
âI know,â Josiah replied, understanding Eleanorâs perspective.
Eleanor replied, âMr. Guerra, I must share something you may not want to hear today. Choosing to divorce Mrs. Guerra and be with Ms. Lysanne might lead to regrets in the future.â
Josiah was surprised upon hearing this. He asked, âWhy do you say that?â
Eleanor shared, âMr. Guerra, the commitment between two people is for a lifetime. While having affection for someone is one thing, the ability to withstand the test of time is another matter.â
She added, âWell⦠Ms. Lysanne has never been a well-behaved person since her youth. Choosing to be with her may lead to countless challenges for you and her child. I donât mean to speak ill of her behind her back, but Iâve always sensed that her nature might pose difficulties.â
Josiah furrowed his brows as he asked, âDo you know something?â
Eleanor-stated, âItâs not a big deal, but do you remember the chick seller at the school gate when you were young?â
Yeah, I remember,â Josiah replied.
Eleanor revealed, âI witnessed it myself. She fought with the chick seller and proceeded to smash an

âYes, that scene was truly⦠Even as an adult, I felt frightened witnessing it. I canât comprehend how a young girl like her could be so ruthless. Even in an argument with the chick seller, why would she have to take the lives of those innocent chicks?â Eleanorâs tone turned somber as she recollected the
incident.
Josiah was utterly stunned by the revelation.
Eleanor sighed before continuing. âHonestly, itâs not a big deal. Mr. Thorne personally apologized and compensated the chick seller after he found out about it.â
Then she shifted the focus, stating, âMr. Guerra, Mrs. Guerra hasnât been doing well since the divorce and losing the baby. She has noticeably lost weight. She wasnât really into religion before, but she has recently turned to faith, reading Bibles, and attending church for prayer. She mentions he wants to help that poor babyâ¦â
The mention of the word âbabyâ had almost become a thorn in Josiahâs heart. It invariably brought back the image of the blood-red lump in Lysanderâs palm from that day at the hospital entrance.
The painful memory caused him to frown, and he turned his face away.
Eleanor expressed, âMr. Guerra, Madam doesnât expect much. She doesnât want you to have a strategic marriage with a wealthy woman from a respected family, nor does she insist on you marrying someone attractive and gentle.â
âShe believes Mrs. Guerra is a good match for you, and you have spent three years together happily. Itâs unfortunate to end it with a divorce. Madam canât bear to see Mrs. Guerra undergo an abortion, experience divorce, and now be a divorcee-all while being with
you.
