Charlotte’s fists clenched. If Alpha Nick saw this side of her, it would only worsen their relationship as he still had not marked her. Before Anita could open her mouth, Charlotte said,

“Nick, I thought you were in the middle of a meeting. I was going for a run when I heard her screaming, so I came

to help.”

She took advantage of the time Alpha Nick attended to Anita and hid the knife. Alpha Nick was conflicted by the explanation as he heard Charlotte speak some mean words.

“Anita, is that what happened?” He tried to verify, Charlotte was brazen–faced that he did not believe her. Not wanting to cause any trouble for the Alpha and his mate, Anita agreed, wanting to

“Yes, Alpha.”

Alpha Nick was slightly disappointed that she agreed to Charlotte’s response, guessing it was because Charlotte

was his mate.

It only meant that Anita was afraid to speak the truth. Giving her a second chance, he asked once more, “So how did you get injured?”

Anita glanced at Charlotte before forcing a smile. “It was an accident.”

Alpha Nick was smart enough to notice the exchanges between the women and the way Charlotte paled from

guilt.

He might not know the reason for this but at least he heard a few things. As Anita turned to leave, he called after

her.

“Annie.” Anita turned around and lowered her head as Alpha Nick said, “If you find yourself in a situation where you need to defend yourself, don’t hesitate to do so. Even if it involves my mate, self–defense is your right. I don’t want to see something like this happening again.”

Anita smiled genuinely, Alpha Nick did not know the whole story but it was clear that he knew Charlotte was in the wrong. Anita was strong enough to take Charlotte down as the latter was not so serious with her training.

The only reason Anita must have refused to defend herself was that Charlotte was the Alpha’s mate. Now, he

gave her the authority to defend herself against Charlotte.

“Thank you, Alpha. I will go now,”

Charlotte’s expression darkened. If Anita defended herself, she wouldn’t stand a chance. There was only one way to put Anita in her place, and that was to send someone to kill her and make it look like an accident, just as Sheila did to Charlotte’s parents‘ house.

It’s good that she and Alpha Nick would be away. The job could be completed before their return, and that way, no one would even suspect her. At the thought, she smiled.

However, when Alpha Nick spoke again, the smile froze on her face. “I will send some of the warriors to guard your house until my return.”

With his level of experience handling numerous cat fights, the outcome was always not a good one.

Anita’s respect grew for her Alpha but wondered why the moon goddess paired him with such an evil mate.

“Let’s go,” Alpha Nick stretched his arm towards Charlotte after Anita left. This was his cross. Since the moont goddess paired them, he could not bear to separate from her, and never would he even think of rejecting her.

“To where?” Charlotte asked nervously. Alpha Nick reminded her,

“You said you were going for a run. Let’s do it together.”

Charlotte began to feel hot. She was already too tired from training as she was not as strong as the likes of Anita. Going for a run would be torture for her.

Alpha Nick sensed that she lied to him but since he didn’t have proof, he just had to handle things his way, and that was subjecting her to go with him for a run.

“Nick, I should go and prepare for tomorrow. Time is already far spent.” Charlotte used a brilliant excuse to get

out of the uncomfortable situation.

The gala awards was a great event, and everybody would want to look their best, so it was just fair that she had

her beauty rest.

“But the event is in the evening,” Alpha Nick countered, not ready to let her off so easily. Charlotte put on a pitiful

expression,,

“I know, but it’s also a long drive.”

Alpha Nick thought for a while and agreed. Today must have been Charlotte’s lucky day, but he was sure to find a way of punishing her next time if she abused a pack member.

He just wouldn’t let her know that she was being punished since he will be doing it with her. “Okay. Let’s go back to the pack house.”

Charlotte was glad he didn’t insist on the run and grabbed his arm lovingly. Alpha Nick was strangely uneasy but endured it as the thought settled in his mind that he had to get used to being with his mate

As they returned to the packhouse, he asked her, “Charlotte, what is the name of your clothing line again?”

Charlotte was thrown into a muddle of unease. The lies she had said from seven months ago when they met were slowly catching up to her.

Calming herself, she responded, “Sherry Couture. I was working on it before the kidnapping incident, so it’s no longer good, and I won’t showcase it.”

Alpha Nick made a mental note of the name as he planned to bring it alive during the gala awards, even if there was nothing to showcase. “It’s fine. I just wanted to know. I wasn’t asking you to showcase it.”

“But why did you ask? You weren’t so interested in fashion,” Charlotte asked curiously, wondering if he heard the name before.

Sherry’s Couture was the biggest luxury clothing line for women, but Alpha Nick was not a woman and couldn’t be bothered about such things.

“Well, I heard you mention it before. I haven’t forgotten all that you told me about yourself,” he smiled and spoke.

“That’s why I love you,” Charlotte leaned close to his chest.

As she was speaking, she saw Alpha Nick’s eyes roll to the back, When he regained himself, he asked her,

“You remember my best friend Thomas? He’s here.” Alpha Nick only remembered that Thomas had equally disappeared on his wedding day, just like Charlotte. What a coincidence?
