Charlotte quickly composed herself and rushed beside Alpha Nick. “Nick, I was merely welcoming Sheila and thanking her for making it in time, but she brushed past me, using so much speed that she almost crashed into the door when Bree vehemently pulled her back,” Charlotte narrated without catching a breath.

Sheila was shocked by the way Charlotte could lie so well without feeling guilty about it. Alpha Nick was a bit skeptical, since he saw the way Sheila was slammed against the wall.

Also, Bree’s expression betrayed her. The latter looked guilty. “Is that so?” Alpha Nick asked, his unwavering gaze on Sheila, making Charlotte grit her teeth in anger.

Did he not trust her? Why would he try to confirm it with Sheila after she had explained everything to him?

The only thing Sheila wanted was to get out of there, so she forced a smile and said, “I will go and see mom.”

Since she knew her way around the pack, including where Athena would be sent for treatment, she didn’t need anyone to escort her.

“Sheila!” Alpha Nick called behind her. She stopped but did not turn around. He asked her,

“Did Bree hurt you?”

Since Sheila’s back was turned to them, no one saw the bitter expression on her face. It meant that Alpha Nick believed all that Charlotte said right now. He was only skeptical about his sister but not his evil mate.

“Why would you believe anything I tell you?” Sheila asked sarcastically and walked away without looking back.

Charlotte’s fingers balled as Alpha Nick said, “I will check on mom, but you two better stay here.”

“Nick, how could you keep me out of a family matter?” Bree complained. How could an outsider like Sheila be allowed to see their mother and not her?

Bree was upset, but Charlotte was burning with rage. “She’s right, Nick, we should all be by ma’am’s side.”

Nick pursed his lips and explained thoughtfully, “That is what I wanted, but you know her condition will only worsen with that option. If she wants to see Sheila, let it be so. After all, we only want her to get better.”

“If you say so, then it’s fine,” Charlotte gave up, waiting for the opportunity to make Sheila pay.

At the ward, Athena’s eyes lit up at the sight of Sheila. She lifted herself from the bed, leaving her in a sitting position, as Sheila hastened to gather her in her arms.

“Ma’am, I’m so glad you are better. I would never have forgiven myself,” she sobbed while the two of them were lost in the embrace.

Tedmond was seething, the sight being an eyesore to him, but he also couldn’t bear to leave his wife alone with this manipulative woman.

What if she convinced Athena to make her stay? Tedmond was not going to allow that. Alpha Nick entered soon after and stood at the door frozen.

His search for Charlotte and pack matters never gave him the opportunity to understand the depth of the bond these two women shared.

Sheila slowly pulled away, smiling through tears as she sat beside Athena on the bed. “Ma’am…” she was about to say something when Athena looked above her to the door and spoke.

“You should excuse us, Nick.”

Alpha Nick wasn’t liking it, feeling that Sheila might incite his mother against him, but since his father was there, he found hope. About to walk out, he was stunned when Athena added, “and you, Ted.”

“What?” Tedmond was so shocked, he lacked the right words to express himself.

“I want to speak to Sheila alone, so please excuse us.”

Tedmond shook his head. How could he allow that to happen? “What if I don’t trust her? I’m your husband, your mate. I should be by your side at all times.”

“He is right, ma’am, please let him stay,” Sheila put in a word for Tedmond, who felt that she was pretending to care and snarled,

“I didn’t ask you to be my defense attorney.”

“I’m sorry,” Sheila said with a sullen expression. She must have forgotten her limits because she had spent the night in a hotel outside the pack.

“I still insist that you all should leave,” Athena said, more sternly than before. Upset, Tedmond stormed out of the room with Alpha Nick following slowly from behind.

As soon as the door shut, Sheila got to the point. “Ma’am, it’s over between Nick and me, but I promise to always call and check on you often.”

Athena was shaking her head, not willing to accept it. She loved Sheila like her daughter the moment she walked through the door with Nick. It was unlike Charlotte, whom she could not bring herself to like no matter how hard

she tried.

“Why must you accept defeat? That vile girl would ruin his life.” Athena was worried for her son, feeling that it would be too late when he realized what he lost. Sheila, on the other hand, was helpless in the situation.

“I’m sorry, ma’am, but she’s also his mate. I believe that the moon goddess doesn’t make mistakes.”

“No.” Athena could still not accept it. She wanted her grandchildren through Sheila and nobody else. “Please don’t finalize the divorce. Come back to the pack house. I will personally take care of you.”

Sheila was greatly touched but had to refuse. “Ma’am, even if I come back, I will only be cast aside. Charlotte is already back. Even in her absence, I couldn’t melt Alpha Nick’s cold heart, so what more can I do when she’s right. here? Then what happens to the pack members? Don’t you think they will lose trust in their Alpha and the

pack?”

Sheila’s gentle words carried great weight at this moment. Athena knew that the pack members would not be comfortable if their Alpha had two women by his side.

“Why do you have to be so smart? I hate that you are leaving, but it also seems to be the best option. Maybe, that is the only way my foolish son would soon know what he lost.” A tear dropped from her eyes as she added, “Your know, I faked my condition just to bring you back, but I think it’s all useless now.”

Sheila was deeply moved by all that Athena did just to bring her back. Her eyes were equally red as she sobbed. “I’m so sorry, but I promise to always be in touch. Here, you can keep this.” She brought out an emerald bracelet from a box, clasping it around her wrist.

She had that bracelet gifted to her by her father when she turned sixteen. It was such a priceless treasure that

she kept locked away.

On her seventeenth birthday, she had worn it to celebrate, but it strangely got lost. When it was found, she gave it to Goldie for safekeeping. Seeing the bracelet in the closet this morning, she was moved to wear it but rather

Who knew it would come in handy just now? Athena was so shocked when she saw the emerald bracelet being clasped around her wrist.

She had known that Sheila was an orphan, so how could she afford something so expensive? Not even in her next life would she dare to think that Sheila stole it for whatever reason.

“Where did you get this? It’s very expensive.”

Sheila smiled and explained it curtly. “It’s a gift, but I want you to have it, so that you’ll always remember me. Let’s take a picture together, and you can save it with my number when I call to check on you.”

Athena was sobbing but got herself together, forcing a smile when they snapped the picture. Sheila sent a copy to her phone and helped her save it to her number.

“I love you, ma’am, I always will,” Sheila tearfully rushed to the door, not wanting to say goodbye, but Athena

called after her.

Sheila obeyed, but turning around, she was shocked by what the woman was doing.
