Lorenzo: Chapter 55
Lorenzo: A Grumpy/ Sunshine, Dark mafia Romance (Chicago Ruthless Book 3)
Where the hell is she, and how the fuck could I just let her walk out of here like that? Did I learn nothing from what happened the last time I let her leave? But I thought sheâd take a few hours to cool off and be back behind the safety of these walls before nightfall.
I thought I had time to win her back.
Placing my hand on the wall, I gulp air, but I canât get enough oxygen inside my lungs to stop the burning fire in them. Thereâs a gaping hole in my chest where my heart should be. She put it back together piece by piece without me even noticing, and now sheâs taken it with her.
I slam my fist against the wall. Where the fuck else does she have to go? I know who will know. Leaving the library, I stalk around the house until I find Kat in the den watching TV.
Dante walks into the room behind me carrying two glasses of wine. He stares at me, eyes narrowed in concern when he sees the murderous look on my face.
I ignore him and focus on my sister-in-law. âWhereâs Mia?â
She doesnât look at me. âIâm not telling you.â
I scrub a hand through my hair and glare at her. âWhere the fuck is she, Kat?â
âSomewhere she doesnât want you to know about,â she says with a casual shrug, not taking her eyes off the TV.
My hands clench into fists, but I bite back the angry retort on the tip of my tongue. I need to rip someoneâs head off. Now.
Shooting me a warning glare, Dante sits beside her on the sofa and places the glasses of wine on the table. She lets out a frustrated sigh when he turns the TV off.
âKat.â Cupping her chin in his hand, he forces her to look at him.
âShe doesnât want to see him, Dante,â she insists.
He frowns. âYou really think thatâs true, kitten?â
She rolls her eyes.
âKat?â His voice drops an octave.
She glances at me. âWhy canât you just leave her be? Let her have a little space before you break her heart again?â she snaps, and the reminder of how much Iâve hurt her cousin pierces me like a surgeonâs blade.
âIâm not looking to break her heart, Kat. I need to tell her â¦â I swallow the words. Mia should hear them first.
My tormented expression must give me away because she offers me a faint reassuring smile. âSheâs in the presidential suite at the hotel.â
âOur hotel?â
âOf course.â
Thank fuck for that. Sheâs safe and easy to find. âThank you, Kat.â
âIf you hurt her again â¦â She scowls.
âI wonât.â
She continues to glower at me, and the icy look in her eyes actually makes me a little nervous. This woman knows her way around a scalpel.
âHe said he wonât hurt her, kitten.â Dante pushes his wife against the sofa cushions and silences any further concerns she might have with a kiss. Iâll have to thank him for distracting her later. Iâve got more important things to do right now. Like begging the woman I love for her forgiveness.
