Chapter 11 - Not so perfect

White Nights

Sarah's POV

My father and I were in the garden. I folded my arms over my chest nervously.

"Do you love him this much?" He asked me, trying to calm down.

I nodded, biting my lower lip. He sighed, shaking his head.

"I love him so much, Dad. I am sorry. I should tell you, but..." I gave him an apologetic look.

"I can not say I am so happy about it. Yes, he is a good guy. But I heard about his nightlife. And I am worried about you." He breathed deeply as he continued. "But.... if you are happy with him, it is enough for me. And do not forget I am by your side." He stated, giving me a tender smile.

"I love you, Dad." I confessed happily, hugging him. I was so relieved.

"I think, tomorrow I am going back alone." He commented in amusement. I smiled at him.

"I will miss you, my mother and brother."

"Be happy, dear. And if he will do something wrong to you, tell me. I will make him regret it." He said with a serious expression. I smiled as I nodded.

We went back to the living room. Dimitri and his father were not here. Valentina told me they were talking in the study room.

My father and Valentina's husband were talking in the garden. Valentina and I were in the living room.

"How far along are you pregnant?" Valentina asked me in a low voice. I looked at her, puzzled.

"I am not." I replied, blushing. She looked at me, surprised.

"Sorry. I thought you were. You got married so early because of that, I thought you were. And of course, I did not wait for Dimitri to marry so quickly." She commented, giving me an amused smile. I gave her a slight smile.

Suddenly, we heard a loud noise. Someone slammed the door.

Dimitri walked into the living room. He looked frustrated.

"We are going." He snapped at me, grabbing my wrist.

"What happened, Dima?" Valentina asked, worried.

Dimitri did not say anything. He walked out in quick steps, dragging me out with him. He was holding my wrist tightly. It was hurting.

"Dimitri, what happened?"

He did not answer me. He opened the door for me. I got in the car. He slammed the door, making me jolt. He got in the car and started driving.

He was driving too fast.

Why is he frustrated? Doesn't his father approve of our marriage? But he looked so happy.

"Dimitri! You are driving too fast." I warned, scared.

He gave me a mocking smirk.

"Does your father not approve of our marriage?" I asked, looking at him.

He clenched his jaw.

"No, he is too happy." He murmured mockingly.

What this means?

He stopped the car. We got out of the car. As soon as we walked into the penthouse, he poured whiskey into a glass and drank it in one sip. Then he took his jacket and tie off.

I walked towards him. He poured himself a glass of whiskey again. I placed my hand on his arm.

"Dimitri, tell me. What happened? You are not looking fine." I said, concerned.

He was sipping his whiskey without looking at me. He moved away and sat down on the couch, running his hand through his hair.

"Go to bed, Sarah." He ordered dryly without looking at me.

I walked towards him and sat down beside him. I held his hand.

"I will not leave you alone. You don't look fine." I said softly. He pulled his hand away.

"Sarah, go to bed." He hissed, emphasizing each word.

"Di..."

"Leave me the fuck alone!" He barked at me without letting me finish my sentence.

I looked at him, shocked. I had not seen him like this before. He was so angry. He ran his hand through his hair angrily.

I went to the bedroom. Insisting would not be good now. He was too angry. I changed my clothes and lay down on the bed.

I couldn't sleep. I was tossing and turning.

The sun was shining through the large windows.

I rubbed my eyes. I was so tired. I couldn't sleep properly last night.

When I looked at the other side of the bed, Dimitri was not here; he did not even sleep here last night.

I got up and put my silk robe on. I walked to the living room.

I saw him sleeping on the couch. There were empty bottles on the centre table. I walked closer to him and sat down on the centre table. I looked at him.

"What is bothering you?" I asked, stroking his blond hair.

I sighed and stood up. I kissed his lips and went to the kitchen.

I was making pancakes in the kitchen, lost in my thoughts.

When I turned around, I saw Dimitri. He was looking at me with a blank expression.

"Good morning. How are you feeling?" I asked, looking at him.

"Morning. Fine." He mumbled and walked towards the fridge. He poured himself a glass of cold water. He opened the drawer and pulled something out. He took a painkiller.

"Breakfast is ready. I made pancakes." I informed softly, looking at him.

He looked at me with a blank expression.

"I am not hungry. I am going. And I have a housekeeper. You do not need to make breakfast." He stated coldly and left the kitchen without letting me say anything.

I did not understand what had happened to him.

Why is he distant and cold towards me?

I sighed, depressed.

A few minutes later, I heard the elevator door open and close.

"Dimitri?" I called him, but he had already left; he left without saying goodbye. I felt pain. I sat down, looking into space.

"Good morning. You must be Mrs. Fedorova. Nice to meet you. I am Galina, the housekeeper." A middle-aged woman interrupted me from my thoughts.

"Umm...Good morning. Nice to meet you, too. Call me Sarah." I said.

She gave me a polite smile and nodded.

"Are you fine?" She asked, concerned.

I nodded and stood up. She looked at the table, our untouchable breakfast, but she did not say anything.

I went to the bedroom. I took a shower and put on a beige blouse and black shorts. I did not feel well. I was lying on the bed.

Suddenly, my phone buzzed. I took my phone, excited. It was Dimitri. I opened the message, excited.

'Don't wait for me for dinner. I will be late.'

I read the message again and again. My eyes flooded with tears. I placed my phone down on the bed and wrapped my arms around my legs.
