“You’re really despicable!” Qu Jingwan clenched her fists. She had not expected the other to use that matter to threaten her.

“We’re the same; this is called ‘an eye for an eye,’ my dear. It seems like your comprehension isn’t that great.” Pei Ge, who was leaning against the sofa, was very satisfied with the other’s reaction. The more this lady gnashed her teeth, the more likely she would jump into her trap.

“Really? You must thoroughly check her. She fell from the stairs. Look at her arms and legs—they’re all covered in bruises. Is the baby in her stomach really okay?”

“Nothing is wrong, ma’am; believe me. I won’t lie to you.”

“As long as the baby is fine, everything will be well.”

“Thank you, doc.” Standing at Pei Ge’s side, Qu Jingwan smiled. Her eye-signal baffled the man.

“Auntie, since there’s nothing wrong with our pregnant family member, please stay here as I send the doctor out.” The lady smiled sweetly.

“Alright. Go see him out, and I’ll do that. You honestly scared me earlier.” Madam Ji walked to Pei Ge’s side and sat down. “Are you truly all right?”

“I am; be at ease, auntie.” She looked behind the older woman and saw the lady shooting her a cold glance, as though showing off. “We’ll have to trouble you in sending the doctor out.”

“It’s no trouble; no trouble at all. Auntie, I’ll see the doctor out now.” Qu Jingwan accompanied Dr. Duanmu out of the living room. When they were near the entrance, she said, “Doc, I won’t short-change you of your benefits, but you must also know what you should do now.”

“Miss Qu need not see me out further; my car is right over there.” He wiped the sweat off his head. If he did not get in his car fast enough, his back would be soaked in perspiration.

“Alright. Drive safely. If there’s anything with that woman next time, I’ll come looking for you.” The lady flipped her curly hair to emphasize this point.

“Okay... Okay, okay...” He now regretted taking this lady’s two-million deposit.

“Thanks for coming. I’ll transfer the remaining two million to your account, so you don’t need to worry.”
