Chapter 405
Tangled By Fate
âAre you sure it wants to call this tower its home?â Catherine wondered.
âJust because this is not your home, doesnât mean it cannot be my girlâs home,â Ovior replied.
Catherine: â...â
âThe elephant is your daughter?â Darius was stunned. âI can see the resemblance.â
His biting remark didnât bother Ovior. He stared at the elephant who was eating leaves from the tree.
âI will go back to my work.â Catherine went back to the tower.
Later, Veronica asked Arthur, âDid something happen to Ovior? Why is he acting so strange?â
.....
Arthur was singing some papers. He put down the quill and replied, âThatâs because everyone around him is pairing up with someone. No matter how much a workaholic he is, he feels lonely.â
As he reached out his hand, Veronica happily sat on his lap and put her head on his shoulder.
âPoor him,â Veronica pitied Ovior. âI wonder why he doesnât want to fall in love.â
â...â
Veronica looked at Arthur who stayed quiet and then stated, âDonât worry. I wonât pester you about someone elseâs secret. Itâs just Iâm too curious.â
Arthur mentioned, âSummer is coming soon. You will find out then.â
Veronica said, âIâm not sure why I will find out at that time but Iâll wait for summer.â
âSince I gave you a clue, give me a kiss.â Arthur pointed at his lips.
âI would have found out about that even if you didnât tell me,â Veronica complained before resigning to his demand.
The next day, Veronica went to Oviorâs office with Darius and both of them became speechless.
Ovior was working. He was sitting behind his usual worktable. He was busy as usual.
However, what made them dumbstruck was a little yellow-colored chick. It was sitting on top of his head.
âAm I dreaming?â Darius asked.
âMaybe we are dreaming the same dream,â Veronica responded.
Both of their eyes were fixed on the chick.
The chick was a quiet one. It was sleeping soundly without being disturbed.
Ovior also kept his head still. He barely moved his head.
âIs his neck okay?â Veronica whispered.
Darius replied, âMaybe for now, but it wonât be after a few hours.â
âYou both realize that I can hear everything that you are saying, right?â Ovior stated without looking at them.
Veronicaâs face grew hot in embarrassment. âIâm sorry. We brought the billing papers that require your signature.â
âAnd when did you start working with us? Arenât you busy with Catherineâs engagement?â Ovior inquired.
Catherine stopped working and looked at Veronica.
Veronica answered, âZinnia and Felix went to check the venue. If they are okay with what Cathy chose, we will start preparing tomorrow.â
âSounds fair,â Ovior remarked. âGive me the billing papers and thank you for your hard work.â
Darius cleared his throat.
âQuiet,â Ovior hissed. âThe baby is sleeping. Donât disturb her.â
Veronica: â...â
âDarius: â...â
After giving him the papers, Veronica and Darius came out of the office.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
âIs he seriously doing this? Something must have gone wrong with his head,â Darius was bewildered.
Veronica shrugged. âMaybe he is too lonely.â
âMaybe he needs some women,â Darius remarked.
â...â Veronica turned to look at him and asked, âDo you dare?â
Darius gulped and then exclaimed, âOf course not!â
Veronica didnât have time to think about Ovior anymore. She got busy with Zinnia for Catherineâs engagement ceremony.
After Zinnia and Felix gave an OK, they started decorating the venue.
Since they had never done this kind of thing before, the new experience became more enjoyable rather than a burden.
Veronica brought a box of glittery laces and asked Zinnia, âWhere should I put this box?â
âGive them to Ironin. He is decorating the wall,â Zinnia replied. She was instructing a magician who was helping them with lighting.
âAll right.â Veronica carried the box to Ironin. âIronin, I brought the laces.â
Ironin was struggling with decorating the pillars. âThank you. Keep it here.â
âOkay.â Veronica put down the box and then observed him struggling. âDo you need an assistant?â
Hesitating at first, Ironin replied, â...Yes... Thank you.â
âDonât mention it.â Veronica helped him to decorate the place.
Darius carried six rolled carpets by himself. He dropped them on the floor and then asked, âZinnia, wouldnât it be better to hire people to decorate this place?â
Zinnia replied, âWhy? Donât you think itâs fun?â
Darius shook his head. âNah, how many days has it been since I last saw my beauties? Iâm beat.â
Veronica quickly inquired, âWhat do you mean beauties? Have you forgotten about our bet, Darius?â
Darius froze on the spot.
The person who was fit up until now began to sweat.
Zinnia smirked. âI guess he will remember from now on.â
âThis is nuts. What did I ever do to deserve this?â Darius cried out.
âYou made a move on Ironinâs wife. Thatâs what happened,â Felix reminded him with a smile on his face.
Darius was pissed. âWhy is everyone going against me? Why donât you all oil your own machine?â
Except for Darius and Ironin, the other three laughed despite being scolded by the strongest and largest person in the group.
It was the last day of decorating. After finishing their work, everyone rolled the carpet-covered floor.
They were exhausted.
âI never thought my energy would drain after decorating a room,â Darius huffed. He was sweating nonstop.
âThis is not a room. This is a hall,â Zinnia corrected him. âA huge hall for a couple who was going to be engaged tomorrow.â
Veronica suggested, âI think we should double-check before leaving tonight. Tomorrow noon all the guests will come. We have to dress up in the morning and come here before the guests arrive. We wonât have time to take care of any mess at that time.â
âThatâs a good idea. Letâs do that,â Zinnia agreed.
Then, she added, âI hope Catherine is doing all right. She must be nervous now. Iâll pay her a visit before going to bed.â
Veronica paused before nodding her head. âYes, letâs do that. She might need company to sleep tonight.â
âWhatever man, I still feel sorry for Sebastian. Our poor child.â
As Darius mentioned him, Veronica looked at him.
âWhy? Whatâs the problem?â she asked.
Darius stated, âHe proposed to her. He loved her but she hurt him.â
Veronica argued back, âIf he truly loved her, why did he hide it? Why didnât he show it? Why did he pick a fight with her every single time when he talked to her?â
âThatâs how men show their love!â
âIs it true? If Arthur pursued me like that, we would have turned into mortal enemies rather than husband and wife.â
âBut he also saved her, didnât he?â
.....
âThen should I fall for every single guy who saves me? Maybe women too. How about I fall in love with Zinnia and Ironin because they saved my life twice?â
â...â
At Veronicaâs logic, Darius shut his mouth. He moved his hand in front of his lips to show that he was zipping his lips.
Zinnia remarked, âItâs true though. Sebastian saw those two going out already. He should have taken the chance at that time.
âCatherine openly saw him as a good colleague. She cannot just say âyesâ to him when he abruptly proposes to her.â
Darius said, âBut she took a month to think, did she not?â
âWho was going to seal his lips?â Veronica asked herself in her mind.
âShe didnât want to reject him outright. Just giving him some face,â Zinnia answered.
She continued, âI mean just think of it. She was already proposed to by her boyfriend and then suddenly came to propose to her.
âShe isnât used to this time of things. Just think how overwhelmed she was. I bet she didnât know how to say ânoâ to him.
âFirst of all, Sebastian is her colleague. Second, those two always fought. Third, she thought of him as nothing more than a bodyguard.â
Darius looked at both Veronica and Zinnia and then remarked, âYou two are particularly supporting Catherine. It must be because Catherine is a woman.â
Zinnia glared at him. âYou think that way because you are too dumb to judge properly. You are only supporting Sebastian because you know him for a long time and not Catherine.â
âAll right, you two, stop arguing. Our dinner has arrived,â Felix declared.
The next day, Veronica and Zinnia helped Catherine to dress up.
âCatherine darling, why donât you drink some water? You donât look well. Donât be nervous, all right?â
Zinnia tried to ease the soon-to-be bride.
âI think drinking too much water wonât be a good idea.â Catherine forced a smile. âI donât want to ruin the dress by going to the toilet.â
âOh yeah, that too. How come you didnât sleep when Veronica was with you? Look at your dark circles.â
Veronica was braiding Catherineâs hair. Hearing Zinniaâs complaints, she defended her friend, âShe drank too much water last night and kept going to the toilet.â
âThatâs how it is then. Well, once you are ready, letâs go to the venue.â
