Chapter 423
Tangled By Fate
âWhat do you want to do now? If it was me, I wouldnât want to marry him. Itâs simply impossible. If he cheats once, he can cheat twice.â
When Catherine heard her question, she became quiet. After waking up, she had been thinking the same thing.
âMarriage is impossible between us,â she stated. âWhen there is no trust, what kind of relationship can we build? I donât think I want to have an untrustworthy man as a life partner.â
Veronica paused. âBut the invitation cards have been delivered to all the guests. Are you sure you can handle the cancellation? Will you be able to face it? Iâm sure Vincent will lose his reputation and business if this story leaks out.â
â...I donât think I want to tell everyone about this. Whatâs the point in ruining his business? Iâll just cancel the wedding and break up with him. It will be a clear breakup. No drama, nothing to argue. I just wish I didnât have to see his face again.â
Catherine covered her face. She tried to delete the images of Vincent and Betty on his bed, rolling and laughing like true lovers.
Whenever she thought of that, she had a hard time breathing. She didnât want to remember the scene. However, the images kept coming.
.....
Veronica stroked her back. âDonât worry. If you donât want to face him, Iâll face him and break up for you. Also, you can just rest. Ironin is helping Ovior with your work. I can cancel the wedding and write apology notes to the guests.â
âWill you do this for me?â Catherine was touched. Although it wouldnât be wise if Veronica went to meet Vincent, she didnât want to face him.
She didnât have the courage. She wasnât sure that she wouldnât break down after seeing him.
Veronica hugged her friend. âOf course I will do that for you. Who else can I do it for if itâs not for you? You just rest. Iâll do the rest.â
After a pause, she added, â...You have few letters. The letters have suddenly started to come since yesterday. I kept them in your drawer. They are from Vincent... Do you want to read them?â
âBurn them. I donât want to see them.â Catherineâs eyes flickered with hatred.
âAll right.â
Veronica collected the letters and then burned them before her friendâs eyes.
Catherineâs eyes reflected the fire. It looked like her eyes were burning just like the letters.
Later in the evening, Veronica went to Arthurâs office.
âAre you busy?â she asked him.
Arthur put down the paper on the table and calmly looked at her. His tense expression eased when he saw her.
The corner of his lips raised slightly. He replied, âIâll never be busy.â
As he raised his hand, Veronica sat on his lap and leaned against his chest. âI havenât seen you all day. You must be busy.â
Embracing her body, Arthurâs fingers played with her silver locks. âWhen I came back, I looked for you. Ovior said you were out with Sebastian and other bodyguards. Did you have fun?â
âHmm. But I wish I could go with Cathy. She is so worn out.â Veronica sighed.
âHowâs she holding up?â
âNot sure. She is heartbroken. Do you know what happened to her?â
âFelix reported to me. What did she decide to do after that?â
âMost certainly she wonât marry a guy like him. If she tried to, Iâd force her not to.â
âHow would you force her?â
âIâd kidnap her and keep her unconscious until the wedding date is gone,â Veronica replied.
Arthur chuckled at her determination. âAnd what if Vincent sues you for this?â
âDo I look like I care? He dared to hurt her. Iâll tell the whole world what he has done to her. This way, he will never be able to show his face anywhere, let alone Cathy.â
âHmm...â Arthur pressed his lips and pondered. âEven if he doesnât want to give up, I have ways to deal with guys like him.â
âDonât dirty your hands for a trash like him. Iâll be sure to teach him a good lesson.â
âHow are you planning on doing that?â
Veronica described her plan, âFirst, Iâll cancel the wedding and send apology letters to the guests from our side. I donât care what Vincentâs relatives do when they reach the wedding venue and see no bride and decoration. Then, they will become curious and ask around.
âIâm sure Vincent and his family will try to cover it up. Thatâs when Iâll go with Catherineâs disguise. Iâll tell everyone about what he has done. After I make everyone believe the story, I will come back.â
Arthur was amused by her plot. âWhat if they do something dangerous? Wonât it be better if Zinnia went instead of you? You can just be yourself and act like you are supporting your best friend. Zinnia will be there to protect you. Iâll ask Felix to go with you as well.â
Veronica thought about it and nodded. âI do like this plan. Iâm glad I shared it with you.ân/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
After that, the couple became silent. While Veronicaâs heart was heavy, Arthur was thinking about the incident that happened in the palace today.
The Queen was becoming more and more aggressive. She acted like she had Arthur under her palm.
The satisfaction she expressed today alerted him.
Arthur didnât want to waste time thinking about her. Nonetheless, he couldnât completely brush her off.
The Queenâs actions were well hidden.
But Arthur already set guards around Veronica. The guards were the best knights he trained. Imperial guards were no match for them.
He looked down and watched Veronicaâs unhappy face. His heart ached for her.
âNica...â
âWhat is it?â Veronica looked at him.
âAre you upset that I couldnât fulfill my promise?â
Veronica tilted her head to the side. She looked curious. âUpset about your promise? What promise?â
She tried to think about what Arthur promised her. All she could remember was that he swore not to be with other women.
âThe promise that after marriage we will travel the world together. Are you upset that I couldnât keep it?â
