Chapter 32

Win and Dew's wedding

Love's unexpected turns

Sky’s recovery had been a long, arduous journey, but it was one that he faced with resilience and determination. With the care of top-notch physicians, ample rest, and the constant presence of Nani by his side, Sky eventually returned to full health. And as soon as he was able, he dove back into his rigorous combat training.

Nani, of course, was not happy about it. “You just got better!” he nagged for the hundredth time, standing at the edge of the training grounds with his arms crossed, his expression a mix of concern and exasperation. “Do you have to push yourself so hard? Can’t you take it easy for once?”

Sky, drenched in sweat from sparring with another bodyguard, merely grinned at him, his cheeks dimpling in that infuriatingly adorable way that Nani could never resist. “I’m still officially your bodyguard, Nani. How am I supposed to protect you if I’m not fit and strong?”

Nani rolled his eyes, walking closer with a towel in hand. “You’re impossible.” He tossed the towel at Sky, who caught it with ease and used it to wipe his face.

“And you love me for it,” Sky replied cheekily, his grin widening.

Nani huffed but couldn’t suppress the small smile tugging at his lips. He swatted Sky lightly on the shoulder, which only earned him a gummy puppy smile in return.

The whole castle had grown used to their playful banter. It was impossible to miss the way they doted on each other, their love evident in every glance, every touch, and every teasing remark. They acted like an old married couple, and while the marriage topic hadn’t been brought up again since Sky’s recovery, everyone could see it was only a matter of time.

---

The day of Win and Dew’s wedding arrived, an event that had been postponed out of respect for Nani’s grief during Sky’s coma. Win, being Nani’s best friend, had insisted on the delay, and Dew, who was also close to Nani, had wholeheartedly agreed.

Sky and Nani prepared to leave for the wedding, but before they could depart, the queen called Sky aside. Her expression was unusually soft as she motioned for him to follow her into a private sitting room.

“I need a word with you,” she said, her tone gentle yet firm.

Sky followed, slightly confused but curious. Once they were alone, the queen opened a small velvet box and held it out to him. Inside was a delicate, intricately designed ring that seemed to shimmer with a timeless beauty.

“This was my grandmother’s wedding ring,” the queen said, her voice tinged with emotion. “It’s been passed down through generations, a treasured family heirloom. I want you to have it.”

Sky’s breath hitched as he stared at the ring, his heart swelling with emotion. He knew how much this must mean to her, how precious it was. “Your Majesty, I… I don’t know what to say.”

The queen placed the box in his hands and smiled warmly. “I know you’ve been searching for the perfect ring to propose to Nani. You couldn’t find one because no ring in the world could ever be worthy of him. But this… this feels right. You’re part of our family now, Sky, and I can’t think of anyone better to carry on this legacy.”

Sky’s throat tightened, and he couldn’t stop the tears that welled up in his eyes. “Thank you,” he whispered, his voice hoarse with emotion. He stepped forward and hugged her tightly, something he never thought he would do to the queen. “Thank you for trusting me with this.”

She hugged him back briefly before stepping away, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. “Take care of my son, Sky. That’s all I ask.”

“I will,” Sky promised, his voice resolute.

The wedding was a grand affair, filled with joy and laughter. Win and Dew were radiant, their happiness infectious as they exchanged vows. The reception was lively, with music, dancing, and an abundance of food and drink.

Sky and Nani danced together, their movements perfectly in sync as if they were made for each other. Nani laughed as Sky twirled him around, his worries melting away in the warmth of Sky’s presence.

But as the evening wore on, Sky grew increasingly nervous. The ring weighed heavily in his pocket, a constant reminder of what he was about to do. He had rehearsed his words a thousand times in his head, but now that the moment was approaching, he felt his confidence waver.

When the reception began to wind down, Sky gently took Nani’s hand and led him away from the crowd, toward the quiet gardens illuminated by soft, twinkling lights. The air was cool, the scent of blooming flowers surrounding them.

“Nani,” Sky began, his voice steady despite the rapid beating of his heart. “There’s something I need to say.”

Nani tilted his head, his expression curious. “What is it?”

Sky took a deep breath and dropped to one knee, pulling the velvet box from his pocket. He opened it to reveal the heirloom ring, its beauty reflecting in Nani’s wide, astonished eyes.

“Nani,” Sky said, his voice thick with emotion. “You’ve been my light in the darkest times, my strength when I felt weak, and my home when I had nowhere else to go. I’ve loved you in ways I can’t even put into words, and I want to spend the rest of my life showing you just how much you mean to me.”

Nani’s eyes filled with tears, his hands trembling as he covered his mouth in shock.

Sky continued, his own voice breaking. “I promise to stand by you, to protect you, and to love you with everything I have, for as long as I live. Nani, will you marry me?”

For a moment, Nani was too overwhelmed to speak. Then he dropped to his knees in front of Sky, throwing his arms around him and burying his face in Sky’s shoulder.

“Yes,” he whispered, his voice trembling. “Yes, Sky. A thousand times yes.”

The world seemed to stand still as they held each other, tears streaming down their faces. When they finally pulled apart, Sky slipped the ring onto Nani’s finger, his hands steady despite the flood of emotions coursing through him.

“You’ve made me the happiest man in the world,” Sky said softly, pressing a kiss to Nani’s forehead.

“And you’ve made me the happiest man in the universe,” Nani replied, his smile radiant despite his tears.

The news of their engagement spread quickly, and the celebrations that followed were nothing short of spectacular. Nani’s kingdom rejoices in the union of their beloved prince and his devoted bodyguard. The palace was filled with music, laughter, and love, a testament to the bond that Sky and Nani shared.

As they stood together, hand in hand, watching the fireworks light up the night sky, Nani leaned into Sky’s side, his head resting on his shoulder.

“I can’t believe this is real,” Nani murmured.

Sky kissed the top of his head, his heart full to bursting. “It’s real. And it’s forever.”

And in that moment, surrounded by the love of their families and the joy of their friends, they knew they had found their happily ever after.
