*Right, so what’re you planning for the future?”

Elio sipped on his Coke as he made casual conversation.

Leah Calloway thought for a moment, “Well! I’m thinking about going back to my country”

Elio was taken aback, staring at her in surprise, “Going back? Why the sudden decision? I thought you said you had no plans to go back.”

Leah Calloway seemed unfazed by his reaction, “I feel like there’s not much for me here anymore.

There are a lot of job opportunities there that align with my profession. Plus, I got an offer from a company there last year I want to give it a shot!”

“But Emmett’s settled down there”

Elio left the rest unsaid Leah Calloway pretended to realize what he was implying and chuckled, “Don’t worry” we’re not even in the same city! Besides, I doubt Emmett wants to get any closer to me. He’d probably want to avoid me. He’s probably worried I’d mess with his marriage.”

Elio lowered his gaze, sipping his Coke in silence.

Out of the blue, Leah Calloway asked, “Bro, you like Clara, don’t you? Why did you push her towards Emmett?”

“Who said I liked Clara?”

“My eyes did!” Leah Calloway looked at him, smirking. “Us women are very wise. I can tell you like her by how you act around her! I don’t understand why you’d set her up with Emmett if you like her”

‘Feelings aren’t something you can force. It’s not enough for just me to like her Elio felt as if he’d been punched in the gut at the mention of this.

“My mommy likes Mr. Milburn too!” Alex suddenly chimed in, leaving both of them speechless.

Elio recovered and patted Alex’s head, “You’re still young kiddo. A lot of things you won’t understand yet! Liking someone can mean many different things. It doesn’t mean you’ll end up together.”

“Why?” Alex tilted his head, looking puzzled.

Before Elio could respond, Leah Calloway beat him, “Alex, has your mom ever said she likes Emmett?”

Alex thought for a moment, then shook his head, “No! But mommy did say she likes Mr. Milburn!”

This declaration sent a wave of excitement through Elio.

But it was quick to pass; his heart settled back down.

The ‘like‘ Clara was talking about was probably not the ‘like‘ he was thinking of..

“Let’s eat! Let’s stop talking about this, we’ve got a kid here.”

Leah Calloway laughed and didn’t press the issue, instead switching to talk about toys with Alex.

Emmett had his secretary book his return flight.

When he left his study, Clara was all packed and ready to go.

“You’re still planning on leaving?”

“Of course! My son’s waiting for me at home!”

She was constantly worrying about Alex.

“Well, I can have him brought over! It’s about time I met him” Upon hearing this, Clara nervously shook her head, “No! My son is timid. I’m afraid he won’t be able to handle meeting you just yet. Let’s wait until he’s older and can understand.”

Emmett looked at her suspiciously. “You seem to get very nervous every time I mention meeting your son.”

“I, of course, get nervous! You keep suggesting meeting my son! But his doctor said he can’t handle any stress.”

“Then bring him over, I’ll get someone to look at him”
