Clara stiffly shook her head, forcing out a smile, “I was just making small talk! How dare I keep anything from you?”

“That’s more like it Emmett Melendez took her hand, making her hook his arm, “Let’s head to the office.”

Leah Calloway stood on the balcony, her gaze level with the Melendez Group’s headquarters.

Suddenly, the silence was broken by the ring of her cell phone.

Leah paused, turning to pick up the phone from the table.

Seeing the number on the screen, she frowned, “What’s up?”

“Where are you?” Elio cut to the chase, no pleasantries exchanged.

“I’m in the country!”

“You know that’s not what I’m asking!” Elio was somewhat anxious, “You told me before you came home just to visit, you wouldn’t contact Emmett, you wouldn’t disturb Clara and them! But my people saw you near the Melendez Group’s office!”

Leah chuckled.

“Don’t overthink it, I didn’t go see Emmett! I don’t even know where the Melendez Group’s office is! Are you a bit too sensitive? Can’t I go out when I come home?”

“Leah, don’t play me for a fool!”

“Elio, we’re family, why are you always doubting me?” Leah sighed, “You’re always looking out for Clara, but I don’t understand, if you like her so much, why are you okay with her being with someone else? Don’t you get jealous when you see Clara and Emmett together?”

Leah calmly said, “Don’t get heated! I just want you to face your feelings honestly! It’s a shame to let go of true love so easily! You might not meet another person you truly like in this lifetime”

“Enough” Elio reprimanded her in a low voice, “Cut the crap! You know what your real intentions are, I don’t need to spell it out for you! I can only tell you that Clara is mine, I promised to protect her for a lifetime, I won’t let you ruin her happiness!”
