Clara was stunned for a moment.

She hadn’t expected Emmett to think about that.

“Actually… you really don’t need to worry about me that much. Not many people know I’m your wife right now.”

“Do your friends know?”

“They do.”

“Isn’t that enough then?” Emmett loosened his tie, gesturing to her. “If you’re grateful, show it with your actions!”

Clara didn’t know what to do. She couldn’t refuse him now but she also felt a bit tired. “Can we… just this once?”

Emmett chuckled at her serious expression.

“Alright, just this once it is!”

The next morning, Clara sent Ricardo’s requirements to Leah as soon as she got to the office.

Soon, Leah called back.

“Did Emmett agree?”

“Um… but he still needs to check the quality of the wood.”

“Of course!” Leah smiled politely. “Clara, thank you so much! You’ve really helped me out!”

“You’ve helped me so much in the past, it’s my turn to help you! If you ever need help in the future, just give me a ring! Your cousin helped me a lot overseas, it’s the least I can do.”

“With a heart like yours, no wonder he’s so into you.”

Clara was taken aback, laughing awkwardly, “Elio and I have been friends for many years.”

“But his feelings for you are definitely more than just friendship!” Leah sighed. “I’ve never seen him so smitten with anyone before! Even though we’re relatives, he’s never cared much about me or the family affairs. In my eyes, he’s never been particularly fond of anyone until I saw how he is with you. I knew then that you’re his favorite person.”

“Alright, get back to work! Let’s catch up after this is all sorted.”

“Okay” Clara took a deep breath after hanging up. Her guilt towards Elio deepened.

Sometimes when she thought about Elio, she felt like he was the one person she had wronged the most in her life.

Previously, she had been fully focused on her child and hadn’t considered Elio’s feelings for her, thinking he was just a good friend. By the time she realized, Emmett had already entered the picture.

From the beginning to the end, she was always in a passive position, unable to choose, only being pushed forward.

“Mr. Melendez, I’ve contacted the lady’s friend. This batch of wood not only has good quality, but the price is also much lower than the market price!”
