Chapter 168
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
Back then, she just thought her son was too heartbroken and worried he wouldnât find a wife and have kids of his own in his lifetime.
So, for the sake of the Melendez familyâs hundredâyear legacy, she pushed her son to agree to surrogacy.
But now, out of the blue, Clara shows up!
Now, both kids are in the hands of a stepmom, how could she not worry?
âI noticed both kids get along super well with Ms Calloway! Saw them having a blast the other day!
Donât know why, but I think they look kinda similar!â
âBut no matter what, sheâs still a stepmom!â Sophia furrowed her brows in worry. âA stepmom will never be like a real mom! Right now, sheâs just putting on a show because sheâs in the Melendez family and Iâm here, but the more over the top she acts, the more I worry itâs all an act!â
1 donât think Ms. Calloway is that type of person!â
âWhat do you know? Some people seem harmless, but who knows what theyâre plotting?â Sophia sighed, âAnyway, I feel so sorry for my two grandsons! Such good kids having to live under the care of a stepmom, I think itâs all my fault!â
The driver comforted her, âMaâam, you might be too pessimistic! Maybe things arenât as bad as you think! Iâve had a few interactions with Ms. Calloway and sheâs not arrogant at all! Sheâs very nice to us staff, even more so to the kidsâ
Sophia said, âForget it, I donât want to think about it anymore! Iâm old and how much longer Iâll live is unknown! Now, all I can do is protect the kids for as long as Iâm alive! As for the rest, I canât control it, I can only remind Emmett to be careful! Especially the kids, theyâre still smallâ
The car pulled up at the pastry shop, Sophia got down and just as she was about to open the door, she saw a woman about to leave with a bunch of pastries.
The shopkeeper saw Sophia and hurriedly said, âOh dear, maâam, youâre a step too late, that lady bought all the pastries!
Upon hearing this, Sophia quickly turned around to stop the woman who was about to leave.
âUm⦠excuse me, maâam, I wonder if you could sell me a few pastries? My grandsons love them! Iâm willing to pay three times the price, would that be okay?â
The woman hesitated, âNo need, since your grandsons love them, I can give you a few more! These are just for me to enjoy.â
âNo, I must pay you! Iâm already very grateful that youâre willing to let me buy âThese pastries arenât that expensive, I donât need the extra!â The lady pushed the money back, âIf these pastries can bring joy to a child, theyâve done their job! I think if my children were with me, theyâd love these pastries too.â
Sophia asked, âOh? Your children arenât with you?â
âYes!â The lady shook her hand, âLetâs not talk about that! You take these back, donât let the kids wait, I have to go now.â
Sophia stopped her and expressed her gratitude. âThank you, could you tell me your name? So if we meet again, I can repay your kindness.â
âMe? Iâm. Leah Callowayâ
