Chapter 169
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
âYouâre a Calloway too! Thatâs a rare last name, same as my daughterâinâlaw âOh, really? What a coincidence!â Leah chuckled, âI have some stuff to take care of, have a nice dayâ
Sophia Melendez waved quickly. âSame to you. Youâre a good girl, if you ever need help, donât hesitate to approach us, the Melendez family Iâll make sure to repay youâ
Thank you!â
Leah left the pastry shop, lightly touching her red lips.
Seems like itâs not a good idea to mess with Emmett Melendez, then⦠his mother probably wouldnât be so fond of Clara Calloway, would she?
Back at the Melendez residence, as soon as Clara and Emmett walked through the door, Alex ran out like a clingy puppy But this time was different, Aiden was trailing behind him.
âDad, Mom! Youâre finally back! Grandma bought us some super tasty pastries today, I ate so much I donât even want dinner!â Alex rambled on, âAiden thought you guys might like them too, so he saved some for you.â
Clara playfully tapped his little nose, âWhat about you? Did you save some for us?â
Alex was taken aback, then he squinted his eyes and gave a mischievous grin, â1⦠I loved them too much! Besides, Aiden saved some for you, that should be enough for adults!â
Emmett was helpless too, patting his little head, âIf you guys like them, Iâll send someone to buy more.â
As he finished speaking, Sophia walked out of the house, naturally scooping Alex into her arms.
âThose pastries are limited edition, once sold out, they wonât make more! Our share today was given to us by a kind girl.
âIn that case, Iâll send someone to line up early tomorrow! Until theyâve had their fill.â
âReally?!â Alex was so excited he wanted to jump up.
Aiden, however, spoke calmly.
âYou canât keep eating the same yummy food, youâll get tired of it soon.â
âYour brother is right.â Clara moved next to Sophia, extending her hand, âMom, let me hold him. Heâs heavy, donât tire yourself.â
Sophia glanced at her, but showed no intention of letting go.
âNo need, Iâd never feel tired for them. On the contrary, if Iâm not around them in the future, you must take good care of them. Donât let them be bullied just because they donât have a mother.â
Emmett caught the undertone in her words and quickly intervened, âMom, what are you implying? Clara has never done anything to make us feel like she would bully them because they donât have their biological motherâ
âAll the better then. I was just mentioning it, no harm intended!â Sophia said with a smile, then turned to Clara, âDonât take it to heart! Iâm just straightforward! These two kids are my world! If theyâre mistreated, itâs like Iâm being mistreated! Iâm just saying this in advance to maintain peace in our family, you donât mind, do you?â
Clara waved her off, âOf course not!â
At this point, Emmett, with a stern face, said, âMom, can I speak with you in the study?â
