“Mom, as a woman, would you be happy if your mother–in–law spoke to you like that? Would you not care?”

Sophia, looking a bit uncomfortable, shifted her gaze elsewhere.

“I’ve said what I had to say, you’re not expecting me to apologize to her, are you? I’m the elder here!”

She sighed, “Besides, everything I’ve done is for your kids Aiden and Alex are your flesh and blood, after all “I don’t need your meddling!”

Sophia shot back, her eyes flaring with anger, “Whether you want me to interfere or not is irrelevant! I’m telling you, as long as I’m alive, Aiden and Alex will not be bullied by anyone! No one can harm my grandkids, not even a bit!”

“Look at Aiden and Alex, they really like Clara‘ If Clara was mean to them, would they act like this? Alex might be naive, but Aiden is very smart!”

Sophia scoffed, “Who can’t put on a show?! I didn’t say she has been bullying them, I just took precautions! I think there’s nothing wrong with that!”

With that, she marched out of the study.

Emmett, frustrated, punched the desk, his knuckles smarting red.

Not long after Sophia left, Clara walked in.

Seeing Emmett’s hand, she rushed over to check, “Oh my god! What happened to your hand?”

“Nothing. I did it myself.”

“Oh, whatever your mom says, let’s just forget about it! It’s not like it’s a big deal! If you don’t want to hear it, just pretend you didn’t! Don’t get angry over it, it’ll make it even harder for me to get along with your mom.”

Emmett looked at her, feeling uneasy.

He took Clara’s hand, “I don’t want you to be mistreated, even if the person doing it is my mother.”

“I don’t feel mistreated at all!” Seeing how much Sophia loved the kids, she felt happy instead.

That way, even if something happened to her one day, she knew the kids would not be bullied.

“Clara, dont worry, I won’t let you keep enduring this just because she’s my mother,” Emmett assured her, “If you’re uncomfortable, let me know. We can move out with the kids.”

He had plenty of houses anyway, he could even buy a new one.

“Why move? There’s no need! Your parents adore the kids, they’d be devastated if I took them away!

We thought it was just Aiden, so taking him away. would let your mom relax, but now Alex is so cute and makes your mom really happy, I think it would be nice to let the elders have a bit more happiness”

Emmett looked at her, “Are you thinking so thoroughly because of me?”

Clara was taken aback, she awkwardly chuckled a few times, neither confirming nor denying “It’s late, let’s get some sleep! You have a lot of meetings tomorrow, and you need to handle several important negotiations personally”

Emmett chuckled and nodded.

Clara, as she was now, really felt like a wife.
