Chapter 174

Clara lowered her head, her voice dropping to a mere whisper.

“Kids need company.”

1 get it now!” Emmett grabbed her hand tightly, “It wasn’t until you came along that I realized how fun and meaningful it is to have a family around. I used to think that making more money and making the Melendez family stronger was what happiness and importance were all about! But now I truly understand, that’s not what’s most important! The real happiness I want is having you by my side, having our kids by my side, work doesn’t matter”

His sudden confession left Clara a bit flustered.

Emmett held her hand even tighter, “Clara, everything I’ve changed has been for you! Please don’t let me down.”

Clara looked at him, “Let you down? How could I let you down?”

“Unless your heart isn’t with me, I can take anything else!”

“Let’s go, we gotta get to work.” Emmett never let go of her hand, even as he led her to the car.

Looking at his profile, Clara felt… like something was slowly changing.

At the office, Clara organized all the files on her computer, printed them out and placed them by the door for everyone to pick up.

After a while, her phone suddenly rang.

Looking down, she saw it was Leah.

She was instantly startled, fearing Leah was in some sort of crisis.

“What’s up?” Clara answered the phone, quickly asking.

“Clara. the guy I like, he rejected me! What should I do?”

“I don’t have any experience with that Clara felt like a kid when it came to such matters.

All she could offer were some words of comfort, like she’ll find someone better in the future…

But she felt these comforting words were pretty useless.

“I want to see you, Clara!” Leah’s voice was pleading.

Clara felt a bit awkward, “I’m at work right now! Can we talk after I get off?”

“But I’m feeling so…” Leah sobbed, “1 feel terrible now, I just need someone to talk to! Can you come?

Just for an hour?”

“This…”

“Half an hour, can you spare half an hour?”

Left with no choice, Clara agreed, “Alright, but I can’t promise how long I can stay. If something comes up here, I’ll have to come back.”

“Okay!”

After hanging up, Clara got up to ask Ricardo for a leave.

But she was worried that if Emmett found out, he would start asking a bunch of questions!

She wasn’t afraid of the questioning, she was more concerned that Emmett might become interested in her “friend“.

If he decides to do a little digging, her real situation would be revealed!

After some thought, Clara grabbed her bag and slipped out quietly.

She’d already said she wouldn’t be long, she’d be back soon, should be fine, right?

In the CEO’s office Emmett was frowning at some documents, occasionally signing his name.

Before long, Ricardo knocked and came in, “Mr. Melendez, our staff saw Taylor Atwood personally went to Cedarwood.”

“What’s he doing there? Emmett asked Ricardo, “Isn’t that place the Quintin family’s turf?”

Then he might have other business there, it doesn’t have to be work–related! Otherwise, it doesn’t make sense… The Quintin family wouldn’t just hand over that place to Taylor!”
