Chapter 212
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
Right after Clara hung up the phone, she dialed Elioâs number immediately. But, the phone kept ringing, with no one answering.
So, she sent him a text, then put her phone down and went back to work At lunchtime, Ricardo and Emmett strolled into the office together.
Ricardo dropped some documents on her desk and then left. Emmett, on the other hand, plopped right down on the sofa in her office. âYour old man did go to the casinoâ
Clara blinked, then lowered her head. Every time her dad was brought up, she felt a pang of guilt. In front of Emmett, she felt like she would ever feel ashamed because of her dad.
Tm sorry about the trouble my dadâs caused you.â
âWhat are you apologizing for? Emmett arched an eyebrow. âI didnât tell you all this to make a fuss. Iâm trying to tell you⦠I had a buddy of mine keep your dad busyâ
Clara looked at him, âDid he stir up trouble again?â
âNo, I had my friend hold him there: Emmett smiled. âHe likes the casino, right? Then Ill make sure he can never leave that casino for the rest of his life.â
âWhat do you mean?â
âMy friend fleeced him for $700,000 in just one morning, and he racked up a debt of $400,000! Your dad thought he could borrow money from you again, but my friend didnât allow it! Heâs making him work at the casino until he pays off this $3,000,000 debt.â
Clara was shocked, âMake four hundred thousand dollars as a handyman?! Heâll never pay that off in his lifetime!â
âIndeed, he wonât! So, he wonât disturb you anymore.â
Clara never expected Emmett to go to such lengths. His method was effective, but she was afraid her dad would spill the beans and let Emmett know!
Seeing the worry on Claraâs face, Emmett misinterpreted it as concern for her dad. He patted her shoulder gently. Dont worry, they wonât make him do any heavy labor at his age. He wonât have to pay for food or drinks at the casino, just has to work! I think itâs a good thing for him.â
Clara nodded, but her mind was on other things.
âIf you miss him, you can visit anytime.â
âI donât want to see him.â If she could, she would rather be an orphan!
This father had no association with her other than threatening her for money and pushing her around!
âAlright! Just relaxâ Emmett squeezed her hand, âNow that you have a husband, let me handle these trivial matters! You just focus on your design work.â
Looking at him, Clara felt a deep sense of gratitude.
âBut youâre already so busy every day, and you still have to worry about my problemsâ¦â
âYour problems are just small potatoes to me! Donât keep things from me because youâre afraid of causing me troubleâ
He wanted to be part of her heart, part of her world. Emmett knew she had grown accustomed to dealing with everything alone, always shouldering all problems by herself.
But now, things had changed. She had someone to lean on. Yet every time he saw her still taking everything on herself, his heart ached and was filled with anger.
He felt sorry for her, for all the years she had to endure alone, being bullied, to the point where her own father treated her so poorly.
