Chapter 24
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
There was actually no real homework in kindergarten it was all extra stuff that Emmett arranged for him to learn after school Since he was a tot he had already learned so much that other kindergartners couldnât even scratch the surface on. He had even touched upon some business related work.
âHmm, not bad Emmett gave him a rare compliment âDadâ Aiden looked at hum expectantly âIf I get a perfect score on this test, can you grant me a wish?â
Emmett was taken aback âWhat do you want?â This was the first time his son asked him for something âI want you to take me to the amusement park on the weekend!â
Emmetts face darkened slightly. He wasnt a fan of such places. He spoke in a deep voice, âI thought you found such places childish?â
He himsel had found such places childish when he was a kid âBut i see other kids dads taking them i want you to take me just once This kind of whining made Aiden feel so embarassing today Thank God he was at home if they were out in public, he would have become a laughingstock. He was way too clingy. That was his selfâassessment for the night âYou can go with Grandmaâ
Emmett put him down and sat on the sofa signaling he didnât have time, but in reality, he just found such places too loud and chaotic Aidens face tell, but for the sake of his and his little brotherâs plan, he insisted. âBut Grandma is too old, she canât join me on many rides!â
âWe have a nanny at homel âI donât want to go with the nanny! I want my dad to come with me!â
âDont be stubbornâ
Emmettâs face hardened âAm i the stubbom one?â Aidenâs face turned red with anger, âDad, is work all you care about? Is work more important than your own son? Why canât you even grant me such a simple with?â
He looked at Emmett with disappointment, like a pintâsized adult holding court. If it were Mom, she would definitely agree to take him to the amusement park and so would other kidsâ dads. Only his dad seemed to think he wasnât important Emmettâs gaze flickered, but he soon felt a pang of guilt. He remembered the time his son ran away from home and the resolution he made to be a better father. He softened Aiden was about to storm off upstairs in a huff when Emmett called him back, âStop!â
Aiden stood his ground not locking back, still furning Emmett walked over, scooped Aiden up and muttered in his ear, âAlright, I promiseâ
âReally?â
Aidenâs eyes widened in surprise. He didnât expect Emmett to cave in âHmm, you also promised me youâd get a perfect scoreâ
âThatâs a piece of cakeâ
Aiden was totally cool about it. Kindergarten homework was a breeze for him Once back in his room, he couldnât wait to share the news with Alex. Alex also told him that he and Mom made the same arrangement. Both kids started looking forward to their âcoincidental encounterâ
on the weekend!
