Chapter 252
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
âI get that Iâm your wife, but you need to check your attitude.â
âSo youâre saying I screwed up?â Emmett had never been so delicate with anyone in his life; hell, heâd given Clara his all. But she leaned towards another man.
How was he supposed to swallow that?
Clara knew theyâd end up in a shouting match if things kept going this way.
So, she took a deep breath to cool her jets.
âEmmett, I goofed. I shouldnât have been covering for Taylor earlier. I should have checked on you first.â Clara made the first move, grabbing his hand. âThis is the last time, I swear. I wonât do this again, okay?â
Emmett shot her a look, âAre you sure? Can you let go of your past with Jaylor?â
Even without knowing the nitty-gritty, Emmett could guess they must have been head over heels.
Otherwise, Clara wouldnât give a damn about Taylor.
He knew Clara was a person with deep feelings and a warm heart.
It must have taken a lot from her to let Taylor in.
For this reason, he was scared Clara still had feelings for Taylor. What would that make him? A wrench in their relationship?
âWhy would I lie to you?â Clara said with a laugh, leaning her head on his shoulder. âI know youâre just green with envy.â
âI am not!â Emmett instantly denied it.
But it made Clara laugh.
âEmmett, you always say Iâm a lousy liar, but arenât you the same? Even a chump like me can see through you.â
Emmett turned his face away, âIâm not jealous! Taylor canât hold a candle to me, be it vying for you or in terms of professional competence. He doesnât even make my radar.â
Sure, Taylorâs company was a competitor to the Melendez Group, but thatâs because no other company could hold a candle to the Melendez Group. The business world knew the Melendez Group was untouchable.
âOkay, okay, youâre the top-dog!â Clara said, looking at him. âYouâre not mad anymore, right?â
âYou think you can sweet-talk me just like that? You messed up today; you got to face the music.â
Clara raised an eyebrow, âAlright then, what kind of punishment are you thinking of?â
Just as she finished her sentence, an idea of punishment crossed her mind, but Emmett beat her to it-
âFour times!â
ââ¦Canât you think of anything else?â Clara shrieked, âEmmett, Iâm deadbeat! Donât you get tired?â
Donât guys start losing interest in that stuff once they hit 30?
And doing it every day, doesnât he feel worn out?
âIf the punishment isnât heavy enough, Iâm afraid you wonât learn your lesson!â Emmett laughed, âYou asked for it, so you got to go along with whatever I say.â
âOr else I might do something to Taylor!â
That name always gave Clara the heebie-jeebies, âFine, fine, fine, Iâll let you have it four times! But not too long each time, maximum⦠maximum forty minutes!â
Otherwise, sheâd be dead on her feet!
âThatâs not for you to decide!â
Itâs like a lamb walking into the lionâs den; the lion decides how it wants to eat, right?
