Even though it was late at night, Elio couldn’t catch a wink.

He stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, looking outside, his heart tied up in knots.

What could Clara be doing at this moment?

Could she be cozying up to Emmett or looking after Alex?

He couldn’t help but turn around, pick up his phone, and dial Clara’s number, but the phone rang for a long time with no answer.

Subconsciously, Elio hung up and opened his messages…

But just as he typed the first letter, he deleted it.

Deep down, he knew what Clara would be doing at this moment, but he still clung to a sliver of pathetic hope. Maybe they were arguing, or maybe they were giving each other the cold shoulder!

That way, he could swoop in and take Emmett’s place by Clara’s side.

Suddenly, as Elio was lost in thought, his phone rang.

He thought it was Clara on instinct and answered immediately, “Clara?”

“Elio, are you with Clara?”

This wasn’t Clara’s voice. It was Leah.

“Or did you try to get in touch with Clara, but she blew you off?” Leah chuckled, “If you’re feeling down, you can talk to me.”

“Spit it out!” Elio frowned. The last thing he wanted was to hear Leah’s voice.

This woman was like a devil!

She was constantly tormenting him, always stirring up trouble.

“What’s with that attitude?” Leah’s voice was tinged with annoyance, “I’m not begging you to work with me! I told you before, if you don’t want to cooperate, just say it! I won’t push you.”

“Have you been in contact with Taylor this whole time?” Quick as a whip, Elio made the connection, Leah softly laughed, “Yes. But with your attitude, I’m more and more convinced my decision to stay in touch with Taylor was the right one! Elio, haven’t you grasped the situation yet?”

“I’ve told you I have other options!”

Elio clenched his fists.

He was rarely this angry!

Don’t go too far! Leah, you should know what happens when someone is driven into a corner! You’ve pushed Clara to her limit! Wouldn’t you be afraid of the backlash?”

“What do I have to be afraid of?” Leah snorted, “Clara’s life and death have nothing to do with me; I couldn’t care less what happens to her! Besides, she’s the one who can’t untangle herself from Taylor;

how else would I have the opportunity to make my move? Isn’t that right, Elio?”

“What kind of twisted logic is that!”

“I don’t care if it’s twisted or not; as long as it gets Clara out of the way of Emmett, I’m willing to do anything.”

“You’re making me speechless!” Elio clenched his fist, feeling a massive headache, “There are plenty of great guys in this world; why are you so hell-bent on Emmett!”

“Why are you so hell-bent on Clara? Elio, you could have any girl you want if you put your mind to it.

Yet, you only have eyes for Clara. She’s had a child with another man; she’s not particularly good-

looking and has no special talents or background. Why don’t you find someone else to like? That way, you wouldn’t be affected by any of this?”
