“Then just sit your butt down here.” Sophia also pulled up a chair and sat down, “In the Melendez family, you can’t just act as you please! You’re far from my ideal daughter-in-law; even if you were the apple of the Melendez family’s eye, you still need to have manners! You need to know how to get along with your mother-in-law!”

Clara hung her head low, listening to Sophia’s lecture, silently vowing to herself, I definitely won’t come downstairs this early again! I’d rather skip breakfast than get a scolding!

She knew that no matter what she did, Sophia would always find a way to criticize her, as if to assert her authority as the matriarch of the Melendez family.

“I honestly didn’t think that much into it!”

Sophia scowled, “I’ve thought it over. To help you take better care of the kids, you’ll be the one making breakfast from now on!”

“Me?” Clara was surprised, “My cooking might not look the best, and the taste might not be up to par either!”

“So, you’re trying to weasel out of this?”

“…No, not at all, it’s just that…I’m really not that good at cooking. I’m afraid Aiden and Alex might not like what I make!”

“Whether they like it or not is their business. Whether you’re willing to cook or not is yours! Besides, just because you suck at cooking doesn’t mean you can’t learn, right? Are you planning on having people take care of you for the rest of your life?”

Clara nodded, “I will!” She was reaching her breaking point.

Where the heck is Emmett?

Unable to hold back, Clara sent Emmett a text, saying she disliked eating breakfast alone, and asked him to join her.

Sure enough, not long after, Emmett emerged from his study.

“You’re up early!” Emmett said with a grin, “I thought you’d sleep in, especially after last night-”

“Emmett, don’t you dare finish that sentence!” Her face was turning red..

Sophia, on the side, was all ears.

“Alright, alright, I won’t say it!” Emmett laughed, then asked his mother, “Are Aiden and Alex awake?”

“They’re up; they’re getting ready.” Sophia glanced at her son, “By the way, you probably don’t know since you just came down, but Clara and I have agreed that she’ll be in charge of making breakfast from now on!”

“…” Emmett was taken aback and turned to look at Clara.

Other than an awkward nod, Clara didn’t know how to respond.

“I disagree.” Emmett said bluntly, “Breakfast is crucial to starting the day right. Why are you pushing this onto Clara and give her a hard time?”

Sophia quickly retorted, “I’m not trying to put her in a tough spot! I just think since Aiden and Alex will always have to live with you two, if Clara can’t take care of the kids, how can I be at ease?”

“No matter where we live, we’ll always have nannies and chefs around, so there’s no need to worry.”

Under the table, Sophia couldn’t help but clench her fists.

She was certain Clara must’ve snuck off and spilled the beans to Emmett!
