Chapter 259
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
âCan a chefâs food ever compare to a momâs homemade meal? I just want the kids to feel the warmth of home! Theyâve been unfortunate enough to grow up without a mother. Now that they finally have one, canât you, as their mom, cook them a meal?â
âI remember growing up eating chef-cooked meals all the time, and I turned out fine! I donât have any psychological issues.â
âYouâ¦â
Seeing their argument was about to explode, Clara quickly intervened. âI think cooking could be fun;
she just wants me to practice! Emmett, stop getting Mom upset; Iâm okay.â
âI see; now that you have Clara as a wife, you donât care about your mother anymore!â
Just as Sophia finished speaking, Patrick Melendez came downstairs. He sensed the tense atmosphere in the dining room.
âWhatâs going on here?â
Sophia glanced at her husband but said nothing.
Clara smiled and said, âGood morning, Dad.â
âMhmm.â Patrick nodded, sitting next to his wife. âWhy canât you guys talk things out? Why does it always have to be so tense?â
Emmett spoke up. âWell, ask Mom why she wonât leave my wife alone.â
âWhatâs going on?â Patrick looked at her.
Sophia turned away. âI just thought Clara should learn to cook and make breakfast for the kids. Whatâs wrong with that? Isnât cooking a skill a woman should have? You know our family situation. Aiden grew up without a mom and never tasted her cooking. I just hope she can give the kids more motherly love.
Is that wrong?â.
âDidnât I tell you not to meddle in the younger generationâs affairs?â
ââ¦â Sophia frowned but remained silent.
Patrick turned to Clara. âYou too. You shouldnât bother him with small things like this. Do you want to see them arguing?â
âNo!â Clara immediately denied it. âI didnât tell Emmett anything!â
âDad, I know some things without Clara telling me. Mom always picks on Clara when she sees her; Iâm not blind or deaf.â
Hearing this, Patrick looked at Sophia again.
Sophia put down her cup of milk, clearly displeased.
âSo if she does something that Iâm not satisfied with, canât I voice my opinion? Youâre my son; sheâs my daughter-in-law; Iâm the elder here with more experience and insight. I just gave a reminder, is that considered malicious?â
âIâve told you not to meddle in the younger generationâs affairs.â Patrick despised family disputes and said sternly, âFrom now on, no one in this house is allowed to trouble others! If I find out, Iâll have to take action! Everyone should mind their own business!â
Clara immediately nodded. âI understand. Mom and Dad, donât be angry! Itâs all my fault, not Momâs.
Emmett misunderstood that I donât like cooking, but I actually love it! Iâll start cooking from tomorrow!â
