Chapter 260
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
âAlright, everyone starts chowing down! Aiden and Alex will be down any second.â
Sophia let it go and picked up her cup again.
Emmett wanted to say something, but Clara subtly tugged at his sleeve, hinting at him to zip it.
Shortly, Aiden and Alex came down.
So, the dinner ended with everyone fussing over the kids.
On their way to work, Clara was engrossed in the documents in her hand, as if she wasnât the one who just got blasted.â
The one who was antsy and disgruntled was actually Emmett.
âThis wonât do if my mom keeps this up; itâll mess up our relationship.â
Clara glanced at him and suddenly burst into laughter, âYouâre talking all deep and stuff⦠Nothingâs going to rock our boat.â
âIf this keeps up, my momâs behavior is going to go off the rails.â
Emmett knew his momâs nature all too well.
From the looks of it, despite his and his dadâs repeated warnings, his mom showed no signs of backing down! It seems like things are only going to go downhill from here.
âOh, come on, donât let this get under your skin! I admit, whenever I get a scolding, I feel down in the dumps, but Iâve never held it against you! And I wonât let this mess with my mind!â Clara waved the blueprints in her hand, âIâm swamped right now; I donât have time for this. I just hope my designs can rake in more dough for the Melendez Group! I canât be bothered with family drama.â
Emmett frowned at her, âAre you really not bothered, or do you have some kind of game plan? I feel like you donât really care about me, so you donât care what my mom says about you.â
Clara shook her head, âIf I let this get to me, itâll only sour the atmosphere at home! I want the kids to grow up in a happy family. What would they think if they came home to see me and their grandma bickering?â
âI always feel youâre so easygoing because you donât really care about me.â
Clara fell silent momentarily, took a deep breath, and voluntarily placed her hand in his, âWeâve come this far⦠Do you think I donât care about you enough?â
âNot enough.â
âEmmett, when did you become so insecure?â Clara arched an eyebrow, âI remember you being a proud man who would never let anyone get to him.â
âYouâre different; youâre my wife.â
She was the only woman Emmett had ever loved.
Emmettâs sudden declaration of love always left Clara a bit flustered.
âIâve said so much about my mom, but youâre acting like itâs no big deal.â
Clara shrugged, âI just think itâs not worth stirring up awkwardness over this! Your momâs just looking out for you She wouldnât really lay a hand on me, right? So why should I nitpick and even tell you about it to upset you?â
Emmett waved his hand, âForget it; I canât convince you.â
âI know youâre just looking out for me, thinking for me.â Clara leaned into him playfully, âDonât worry, Iâm a grown-up; I know what I should and shouldnât do! We should try to understand and tolerate our elders!â
