Chapter 261
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
âYouâre always such a ray of sunshine.â
With a playful roll of her eyes, Clara Calloway replied, âWell, I reckon Iâm pretty happy as it is! As long as no one bugs me or tries to steal my joy, Iâm golden.â
âWould you be scared to lose me?â asked Emmett Melendez, looking into her eyes.
âAbsolutely!â
âOut of all the time Iâve known you, thatâs the sweetest thing youâve ever said to me.â
Clara just shook her head, a smile playing at her lips.
Once at the office, Clara had a meeting with people from the design department. Just as she stepped out of the conference room, her phone rang. It was Elio Milburn.
âIâm sick; can you come over?â
Clara was taken aback.
âYouâre sick? Whatâs up? Got a cold or something?â
âYep, and my stomachâs acting up too.â
Clara glanced at her watch and asked, âWhich hospital are you at? I can head over right now.â
âBelevolence Hospital.â
âI should be there in about half an hour.â Clara had a ton on her plate, but hearing that Elio was ill, she couldnât help but worry.
After all, whenever she or her kiddo was under the weather, Elio would always rush over in a heartbeat.
Clara didnât tell Emmett; she grabbed her car keys and hit the road.
The traffic was smooth, and she made it in less than half an hour.
When she saw Elio, Leah Calloway was also there.
âClara! Finally, youâre here! Please talk some sense into Elio; heâs been so stubborn.â Leah sighed, âHe insisted on drinking last night, got completely wasted, and passed out on the balcony! Heâs been skipping meals and only drinking, living like heâs in a fog.â
Frowning, Clara walked over to Elio and said, âElio, youâre a doctor; donât you know whatâs good and bad for your health?â
âYou donât need to worry about me; you have Emmett. Do you even care about me?â
Clara was taken aback. âThatâs not the same thing! Youâre making no sense. Just because Iâm with Emmett, does it mean I canât care about anyone else?â
âExactly! Ever since youâve been with him, youâve given him all your heart! I can see it clearly!â Elio was so agitated that he tried to stand up from his chair.
Leah quickly stopped him: âYouâre not well; Clara came to see you, and youâre being rude! Youâre going to hurt Claraâs feelings.â
âIâm fine.â Clara motioned to Leah to stop. âIn the past, Elioâs kindness towards me Iâve kept it all in my heart! Every single time, every single act, I never forget, so when heâs sick, of course I had to come.â
âClara, then Iâll leave you two alone; call me if you need anything!â
Elio nodded, and Clara could only say, âAlright, see you later!â
Once Leah was gone, the room was left with only Elio and Clara.
âElio, Iâm confused; what are you trying to do?â
She knew Elio had a unique personality, but he had never hurt her.
âYou already know!â
âI donât.â Clara was at a loss for words. âDidnât I make it clear to you when I was abroad? You even wished me well, and now youâve changed only a few months later? Have you changed your mind?â
Elio didnât beat around the bush: âYes, Iâve changed my mind; I donât want to let you go to Emmett!â
