“Elio got hammered tonight.”

“Seems like he’s really got the hots for you.” Emmett squinted. “Need me to squeeze out some time to meet him?”

Clara shook her head frantically and said, “No! Emmett, if you’re angry, you can blow up at me, but you can’t go after Elio! I’m the one who owes him; I didn’t explain our relationship clearly and made him misunderstand; these are all my messes! It’s not his fault at all; you can blow up at me!”

Emmett huffed coldly, “Did you think about me when you were protecting Elio?”

“I have no romantic feelings for Elio! We’re just friends!”

“But you’re aware of Elio’s feelings for you, aren’t you?”

“I know! But isn’t it okay as long as I don’t feel the same way about him? Emmett, you’ve been around the block, and I believe you understand that what I owe Elio is hard to repay! Besides, he hasn’t done anything to hurt me; how could I just cut him off so easily?”

Emmett looked into her eyes, fell silent for a moment, then said, “Forget it; I don’t want to argue about this! I’ll let it slide this time, but next time Elio comes to you, you have to tell me!”

“Okay!” Clara nodded hastily.

“Also, if Taylor contacts you, you must tell me.”

Hearing Taylor’s name all of a sudden, Clara was taken aback. How did the topic shift from Elio to Taylor?

“Alright, I got it.”

“I was planning to continue teaching you today, but we’re out of time now! Go do your thing; I have a meeting to attend.”

Clara nodded. “Then I’ll be off, Mr. Melendez.”

She lowered her head and left the office, finally taking a deep breath.

This kind of anxiety and fear-she didn’t want to experience it for a second! But relationships were just that complicated.

“This is the report from the construction site today! Are you going to check out the site later? If you are, I can go with you.”

“Sounds good!” Clara got up and took the files from him. “I’ve been thinking about the site; it’d be great if you could come with me.”

“Mr. Melendez asked me to keep you company; of course I’ll listen!” Ricardo smiled, then suddenly lowered his voice and asked quietly, “Earlier, was Mr. Melendez really mad?”

Clara puckered her lips and sighed helplessly, “Yeah! Emmett chewed me out.”

‘But Mr. Melendez does this because he’s worried about you! He cares about you; that’s why he’s so concerned about where you go.”

“I get all that.”

“Don’t blow it with Mr. Melendez! I’ve been around him for a long time, and I’ve never seen him care about anyone like this! No matter if it’s men or women, he usually couldn’t care less! Plenty of women tried to get close to Mr. Melendez by all means, but he was never swayed. As a man, I really admire his self-control! A good man like this is hard to come by; you’ve got to cherish him.”
