The meeting dragged on for over an hour, and when it finally ended, Clara returned to her office.

She had thought she was in for a rough ride today, but it turned out smoother than she had expected.

Clara had planned to open her computer and organize Emmett’s schedule, but her mind was elsewhere as she sat in her chair.

After some hesitation, she decided to head to the break room instead.

Staring at Taylor’s number on her phone, she turned the device off and rubbed her temples.

Just as she was stuck in her thoughts, a call from Emmett suddenly came through.

Clara stared at the name flashing on the screen and hesitated momentarily before answering.

“Hello?”

“Where are you?” Emmett’s voice sounded a bit stern.

Clara paused before answering, “I’m in the break room making some coffee. What’s up?”

“You’re in the break room?”

“Yeah… where else would I be?” Clara retorted, then realized the underlying meaning in Emmett’s words. She frowned, “You’re not having me watched, are you?”

“No, I just needed a file from you, and you weren’t in your office, so I called.” Emmett’s tone had softened quite a bit, “Besides, even if I were keeping an eye on you, you do have quite several admirers; I have to stay on my toes,”

Clara sighed, “Come on… what file do you need? I’ll bring it to you right now.”

“No need; I already sent Ricardo to fetch it. Just finish your coffee and get back to your office.”

“All right…”

“Should I get you an assistant to help you out with these things?”

Clara couldn’t help but retort, “Have you ever seen a secretary who needs an assistant? Isn’t that just asking for rumors?”

“So what if they do? You’re my wife. And besides, you’re a designer as well. What’s wrong with having an assistant?”

“Forget it, and I’m not used to having someone wait on me. It feels awkward. Clara laughed, “Plus, I’m not so busy that I need someone to help me out. Let’s save the company some money.”

Emmett chuckled, “What’s this? Already looking out for your husband’s wallet?”

– “Money should be spent wisely.”

“I’m more worried seeing you exhausted.”

Clara was taken aback and never knew how to react to Emmett’s sudden sweet talking.

“Okay, get back to work.”

Just as Emmett was about to hang up, Clara blurted out, “Wait!”

“Yeah?”

Clara hesitated briefly before asking cautiously, “Where… where are you right now?”

“I’m out dealing with some things.”

“Who are you with?”

Emmett suddenly went silent.

As Clara was about to ask again, Emmett cut her off, “No need to worry, just focus on your designs. I’ll be back once I’m done.”

“Okay… just remember to eat lunch, don’t skip meals because you’re too busy.”

“You’re worried about me?”

“Of course!”

Emmett chuckled, “I will definitely obey your orders.”

“Emmett… Clara rolled her eyes, “When did you become so smooth?”

“Ricardo told me that women like to hear these things.”

Clara was speechless.

That Ricardo… What a competent secretary! He could handle anything!

“Do you like hearing these things?”

Yes. Clara couldn’t help but smile, “It just feels a bit off hearing these words from you.”

“Well, I guess I’ll just have to say them more often then; it won’t feel off anymore!” Emmett laughed softly, “I’ll come find you once I’m done “All right then!”
