Chapter 279
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
âNo way! He doesnât remember me at all Did Taylor get his memory back? Clara staggered back a few steps, Impossible! His mom told me straight up he wonât recover in this lifetime-â
Her words halted in the middle of her sentence.
Her eyes met Emmettâs, and Clara instinctively lowered her gaze.
âSo, you guys were lovers before but broke up because of his motherâs interference?â
Clara hesitated before answering, âIf you want to put it that way, I canât really argue. I wouldnât say we were a real couple, and we didnât have approval from our families, just some mutual feelings at most!
Taylor and I never really did anything intimate; even our kisses were limited to the forehead. His mother couldnât stand me to the point of hurting her own son! I knew if I stuck around, heâd be the one getting hurt in the end, so I backed off.â
âAnd your childâ¦
âNot Taylorâs.â
Emmett furrowed his brows, âClara, whatâs your past really like?â
He couldnât even begin to imagine!
âNothing but a shit show! Emmett, I donât want to revisit my past; please respect that.â
The air in the office seemed to freeze.
After a long silence, Emmett finally spoke, âYou can leave.â
Without a word, Clara left his office.
Just as the door closed, she heard the sound of a vase shattering!
Ricardo, not far off, had heard it too.
He hurried over, âWhatâs up with Mr. Melendez?â
Clara shook her head, âI have no idea.â
âDid Taylor cause trouble again?â Ricardo looked at Clara, âDidnât I tell you to stop mentioning Taylor in front of Mr. Melendez? Did you plead on Taylorâs behalf again?â
âI didnât! I didnât mention Taylor at all, but Emmett brought it up! And I didnât lie to him and just answered his questions.â Clara was also clueless about why Emmett was so pissed.
Was she supposed to be happy about her past?
If she could choose, sheâd want to avoid it too!
How many people are born into wealth like Emmett?
Clara rubbed her temples, âNever mind, let him cool down a bit and donât bother him!â
She walked away, leaving Ricardo standing there, helpless.
When would these two stop hurting each other? A calm, sit-down conversation could solve so many issues.
Clara was totally out of it, sitting in her office, lost in thought.
Time flew by, and it was time to clock out; employees began to leave the office one after another.
Clara stood up, rubbed her numbed legs, and opened the office door.
Suddenly-
A figure was blocking her door.
âEmmett? What are you doing hereâ¦â
âIâm off work. I figured Iâd give you a ride home.â Emmett frowned, then turned to walk ahead.
Clara paused momentarily, then quickly grabbed her bag and followed him.
They rode the elevator down to the underground parking lot, and only after getting into the car did Clara carefully ask, âAre you not mad anymore?â
