Chapter 290
Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)
âWhatâs going on? Are you planning on keeping this secret forever?â Taylor snapped at her. âWhyâd you have to treat Clara like that? You knew I loved her. You knew Iâd be devastated if the truth came out!â
Teresa took a step back, shocked and scared.
âWhatâ¦what do you know?â
âI know everything!â Taylor pulled out a surveillance tape and threw it at her. âHave a look for yourself! I bet youâve forgotten what you did!â
Teresa didnât reach out to catch it, but the glimpse of the screen was enough to drain the color from her face.
âNo way, this canât be! Someoneâs trying to sabotage our relationship!â Teresa quickly grabbed his arm, âTaylor, listen to me. When you were in the hospital, Clara was already with another guy! She was never loyal to you. How could I let her stay with you?â
Taylor stared at his mother, unable to comprehend the reality in front of him. âYouâre still trying to lie to me? You really think Iâm a puppet you can manipulate?â
âNo! Taylor, listen to me!â
âI have. Iâve been listening to you for years!â Taylor brushed her hand off. âI trusted you completely, never doubted you. But what am I to you? What am I!â
Teresa covered her face, sobbing. âTaylor, everything I did was for you! Why would I hurt you? Why are you doubting my love for you? Iâm your mother. I raised you and protected you from all the hardships, not Clara! And now youâre accusing me of another woman?!â
Taylor shook his head, stepping back. âThis is too much⦠Youâre too much⦠This home is too much for me! I canât imagine what else you might do to me, what else you want to control! What am I if I canât even protect the woman I love? What separates me from a loser?â
âWhat do you mean youâre a loser? Did Clara say something to you?â Teresa was also getting worked up. âIâm going to find her! Weâll bring her here, and I want to ask why sheâs messing with my son. What does she want!â
Taylor grabbed her arm, âWhat are you planning on doing?â
âIâm going to find her; beg her to leave you alone!â
âDo you think you havenât hurt her enough?â Taylor covered his face, sinking to his knees. âYouâre both women. Do you know what kind of pressure Clara was under? I was her last hope, but you cruelly took that away from her! If you hadnât interfered or lied to me, Clara wouldnât be like this now! You ruined her! You ruined a girlâs life! Has a comfortable life made your heart so cold, so ruthless, so indifferent?
How would you feel if you were in Claraâs shoes?â
Teresaâs mouth opened, but no words came out.
âForget it. Nothing I say will make a difference! Otherwise, you wouldnât have done what you did and wouldnât be covering it up now. You havenât shown a shred of remorse. Mom, Iâm so disappointed in you!â
