“Cool your jets! I didn’t set you guys up to tie the knot or anything. I just thought that as their birth mom, it wouldn’t hurt for the kids to meet her.”

“And where does that leave Clara? How would you feel about me if you put yourself in her shoes?”

Sophia frowned, clearly not pleased. “She hit the jackpot when she married into our family. What’s there to complain about?”

“You’re losing your cool!”

Sophia scoffed, “I’m already being generous by not kicking her out! How could letting the kids meet their birth mom upset her?”

Emmett chuckled.sarcastically as he said, “Bottom line, I won’t go, and neither will my kids! If you can’t understand my dilemma in this matter, then I’ll take the kids and move in with Clara.”

Sophia’s eyes widened in panic, “What are you implying? Are you going to abandon me, your mother?

What on earth has Clara done to have you so smitten? Am I not thinking for the best of your children?”

“I don’t think you’re acting in the children’s best interest. And if you ask Aiden and Alex, they wouldn’t want to meet their birth mom either!”

“What kid wouldn’t want to meet their birth mom?”

“Haven’t you noticed how much Aiden and Alex love Clara? They see her as their own mother.”

Sophia scoffed and retorted, “No matter what, she isn’t their biological mom!”

“But they get along so well. Why mess with that?” Emmett suddenly had a thought and he asked, “Did that woman say something to you?”

Sophia immediately denied, “She doesn’t even know who I am! I just discovered that she’s Aiden and Alex’s birth mom.”

“That’s quite a coincidence.”

“Of course, I’ve been thinking a lot about this ever since I found out. After much consideration, I think it would be better for the kids to live with their birth mom. No matter how good Clara is, she’s still a stepmom, and I just can’t shake off the worry!”

Emmett frowned, unable to comprehend his mother’s actions.

“Is it so hard to see Clara and me living harmoniously as a family?”

“What family! The kids’ birth mom hasn’t even returned yet!”

“I want to clarify something. I have had absolutely no contact with Aiden and Alex’s biological mother.

Therefore, their relationship with her remains unknown to me. Despite any emotions they may have towards her, I have no intention of interacting with her in any way. My sole focus is Clara, and that is non-negotiable.!”

“You’re just stubborn! I bet that Clara has been feeding you nonsense.” Sophia scolded him, looking like she was at her wits’ end.

“But Clara’s a divorcee with other kids. Aren’t you worried that her kids will come after your estate when they grow up? She has no connection to our Melendez family but might end up with your inheritance!”

“Clara’s kids are also my kids. What’s wrong with them having the right to inherit my estate?”

Sophia pointed at her son, “You… you’re really going to be the death of me!”

“Clara and I are legally married. Just like Aiden and Alex have the right to inherit Clara’s estate.

Naturally, my estate is also hers.”

As Sophia turned to leave, Emmett grabbed her and said, “You can talk to her, but let me warn you. If Clara gets upset or even divorces me because of this. I’ll never come back home again!”
