When Elio pushed the door open, he saw Clara in the corner.

She was curled up with her arms wrapped around her knees, not reacting even at the sound of the door opening.

He rushed over, “What’s up? You’re giving me a heart attack.”

Only then did Clara lift her head slightly, “Let me out.”

Elio clenched his fists, looking at her and saying, “Why can’t you get what I’m saying? You don’t trust me. You think I’ll hurt you.”

Clara looked away, not wanting to meet his gaze, “Whether, I trust you or not, I don’t want to talk about it anymore, but I need my freedom now! What you’re doing is illegal!”

“I’m just trying to protect you, Clara. I’ve done so much for you, but I can’t put my parents in danger.”

“Why can’t you tell me the whole truth then? I just want to know why! Why do you say I’m in danger?

Why involve your parents?”

“Because someone is threatening me using my parents to make you leave Emmett. Elio blurted out in a rush.

Clara was stunned before her heart sank, “Is it Leah? Is she the one making you do this?”

Elio clenched his fists, gritting his teeth, “Yes, it’s her!”

“I knew it, I knew it.” Clara suddenly felt a wave of darkness before her eyes, and her body started to fall backward.

Elio quickly caught her, anxiously shaking her arm, “Wake up, wake up, get a doctor, quick!”

Soon, the servants brought in two doctors who hurriedly checked Clara, with Elio staying by her side.

Thankfully, she was okay!

The doctor put her on a drip, then turned to Elio, “She can’t keep starving herself like this. Her health is already not great. If she continues, it could cause permanent damage, which is irreversible.”

Elio nodded quickly, “Understood.”

The doctor looked at Elio and then at Clara, hesitating before saying, “If you guys are fighting, it’s really not the best time. Your wife, or girlfriend, is in the first three months of her pregnancy. If anything goes wrong, it’s very easy for her to miscarry! Don’t let yourself have any regrets!”

“You’re saying that she’s pregnant?”

Elio was frozen in place, feeling like he’d been struck by lightning at the news.

The doctor was taken aback by his reaction, “You didn’t know about the pregnancy? No wonder!”

Elio grabbed the doctor’s arm tightly, “Are you telling me this is true?”

“She really is pregnant.” The doctor nodded, “It’s been about a month, but without precise tools, I can’t be sure. You should take good care of her.”

Elio was stunned, standing there without moving.

“Whether or not this child is kept, it will have a significant impact on this woman. I just found out her health condition is terrible, and she has many scars on her body. Have you been abusing her?”

Elio immediately pulled up her clothes. Indeed there were many scars, but they all looked old, making him feel even worse.

“These injuries weren’t caused by me. Before, her father was in debt all over town, and the creditors would always come for her when they couldn’t find him. Since she couldn’t pay them back, they beat her.”
