“Keep searching; find all the places Clara has been!”

“You want to activate the full search system? This might cost the head office a lot. The full search system hasn’t been fully activated yet; using it prematurely might invalidate our previous tests.”

“Are you questioning me?”

The secretary quickly replied, “Not at all, I’ll fire it up right away.”

After hanging up the phone, Emmett went back to his bedroom. He pushed open the door. Clara’s presence was still there, but she was gone.

Emmett touched the bed sheet; his feelings were a tangled mess, whether it was sadness or frustration.

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Emmett quickly got up to answer it, only to see his mother standing there.

Disappointment flashed in his eyes.

“Yeah, at a time like this, Clara was obviously being held against her will; how could she possibly return on her own?” he thought.

Sophia Melendez asked “Son, do you have a moment? I’d like to talk to you.”

“I’m not in the mood; I don’t want to talk!” Emmett knew what his mother wanted to talk about, but he had no time for anything else right now.

Sophia Melendez sighed, “Son, I know you’re upset about Clara, but you can’t Jet this pull you down.

The company needs you; Aiden and Alex need you too.”

“My wife is missing; shouldn’t I be looking for her? I know you don’t like Clara, but she’s my wife now!

You should understand that.”

“Of course. I understand. I wasn’t a big fan of Clara, but I never forced you two to divorce. If not for this, I’d even think your relationship with Clara was really good.”

Emmett bit his lip lightly and said, “Our relationship has always been good.”

“Clara’s in this state, and you still say your relationship is good? You’ve seen the news; she is not a good influence on my grandsons. How can I trust her with the kids?”

Emmett felt a headache coming on.

All he wanted now was to find Clara; he didn’t want to hear anything else.

“You should know that the kids’ early education and family background are extremely important; you can’t risk their future, right?”

“I’m not.”

Then how can you be sure Clara can be a good mother?”

I’m not sure, but she’s my wife.”

Sophia frowned, “No matter how good Clara seems, she’s just a stepmother, don’t you understand?”

“I’m not in the mood to think about this now; let’s talk when I find Clara. If there’s nothing else, I need to rest!”

Sophia quickly followed him into the room, “Why won’t you meet the children’s biological mother? Leah is a good girl; although her social status isn’t up to our family’s standard, it seems like you two were meant to be!”

“If you weren’t meant to be with her, then how did you end up with two lovely children like Aiden and Alex? You should marry her for the sake of the children; they’re your biological sons!”

Emmett suddenly turned around and said, “If you’re so fond of Aiden and Alex’s biological mother, why don’t you live with her? I won’t stop you!”

“You…you’re going to be the death of me! What has Clara done to you that you’ve completely lost your mind?”

Emmett frowned, not willing to listen to his mother’s nagging anymore.

Sophia was so angry that her hand was shaking, “They say men can’t stand being betrayed, but you seem to not care at all!”

“The truth isn’t clear yet! I don’t believe Clara is that kind of person.”

“How could she not be? The news has already reported it. How could it be fake? If people find out Clara’s real identity is your wife, the daughter-in-law of the Melendez family, can you imagine what the Melendez family would look like now? What would people think of us?”
